Wish I had time to train with my work stuff :/
What's the best way to train for 10 and 25 mile tt's?
Ride them and learn the course while your there, generally build fitness, hill climbs to build power and some turbo stuff?
That's the plan - note it won't be hard core training more like just general riding :) just may as well do the right stuff when I can
AND KEEP OFF THE FAGS!!!!!!!

Get a hrm and try to work out what your anaerobic threshold is, then build your training up from constant 85% until you can hold ninety something for an hour.
Or get a coach.

Ride them until your times stop improving then stop for a while and then ride another one.

Training may be the wrong word, it has me doing short, heavy loaded runs around town which is useless for tt, good for hillclimbs maybe. Gives me next to no recovery time though.

I do none of this, probably should get a bit more sciencey if I'm going to take it seriously..

Get a hrm
hmm...not sure how much HR really tells you, far too many confounding factors can make your HR vary more from your target than the tolerance on effort you should be aiming for. It's useless for moderating pace in the first few minutes, and you have to have a pretty good idea of what your drift rate is to get any sense out of it in the later stages of a race.
As far as training for short distance TTs is concerned, everybody agrees that interval training is the way to go and nobody agrees about how long the intervals should be, with sessions ranging from 15s to 20 minutes recommended by different "experts".

Hi guys, new to the site and thought I'd post here. Did my first TT of the year, our local 10 and rode it with a fixed disc for the first time. I went a good bit slower than my PB though, but I am much fatter now and it's early in the season so I'll persevere. I might take on a 25 next who knows.

Welcome. What time/course* was it?
*Important bits ;)

Cheers. It's an interesting course with quite a few junctions and a right turn halfway round, reasonably flat so the fixed hub wasn't too much of a hassle: http://www.egcc.net/images/horne-circuit.gif
Time was 25:25 enough for joint second, but would have gone better if I had tri bars I'm sure ;) -

Edit - It's 2 laps.

^massive aero advantage. What happens mid-ride when you've eaten one though?
You become less aero outside and more aero inside.

Can't imagine pacing myself for a 100. Seems longer distances are quite your forté...
Maybe next season.

I've never done one, but my little brother has. Apparently you set off like you're doing a 50, carry on at a steady pace through the 50 mile point instead of doing your typical last mile wind up and you can basically keep going until about 70-80 miles. After that, you just try to hang in there. Assuming you are a 2:00 rider over 50 miles, you can probably get to 75 miles in about 3:05, and then you just have to ride at 20mph to get a 4:20, which is still pretty respectable.

Hang in for 20 miles, ouch.
Although I'm quite looking forward to some longer distances (can't believe I just wrote that!). I have knocked out 75 miles in 3 hours before fixed, so I reckon(hope) I could just about manage a 4.30..

I ride with power and since I'm training for 24hrs have a reasonable bank of training rides to compare at this distance plus a coach with proven pacing strategies.
What actually happens on the day though is anyone's guess. I'm pretty sure I'll PB this since I plan to remember my shoes this time and perhaps not get lost. -
• #2220
What sort of training rides do you do for a 24hr? Long ones I assume.
Somehow I got lost on a 25 the other week...
-
• #2221
Yep long ones. I've taken wrong turns during most of my time trials. It's a good way to get in some extra training and almost be certain the next ride will be a PB..

Any suggestions for elbow pad replacements?
I've got something like these at the moment and want something thicker/more shock absorbing:

Fizik tri-gel is great for me, nice and low profile and comfy enough for those evil centuries!
-
• #2225
Presumably you could stick PRO's own touring pads on there http://www.wiggle.co.uk/pro-tempo-windjammer-arm-pads/
I put Vision Deluxe pads on my Easton Attack instead of the paper thin stock pads http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=36200
3T Comfort pads are big and thick, I had them on for the 50 today http://www.wiggle.co.uk/3t-comfort-pads-clip-on-kit/
You fall off.
