Newbury 12 was urhm very windy. The course was rough and thats with fat tubekess tyres, how riders using narrow conti sprinters coped i dont know. Maybe they did not only 30 finished and the Winner did 300 miles. Micheal broadwith did 294. Fastest lady did 269miles. Me on my road bike dressed in club run kit looking like i was just going for a ride finished 25th out of 30 finishers and 46 starts. I managed a lowly 214 miles so i at least beat my standard distance of 211. I would normally be happy with that but i have now seen first hand what is possible.
Entered the cc breakland 12hr now and i will be doing the mersey roads 24hr. I'll wear a skinsuit for these event and some overshoes. I know alot more now about feeding myself for a 12hr TT so that should help.
I was just happy to finish as i was off the bike during may due to a broken collar bone and thumb so training was interupted. i had so much foot pain (new shoes) and a painful left wrist from the thump thump of the cracks in the tarmac covering the joins in the concrete beneath.
The last 2 hours where good though. My wrist and feet had numbed and i felt like i was flying. The short kip i had at 7 hrs helped alot. Nearly fell asleep on the bike.
Kudos to guy in his 70s rding a bike from the 60's and finishing and the girl riding the trike. She described the experience as horrible.

What do you think is unacceptable? not trying to cause trouble, just interested.
If you mean head down, I would say that this is a still photo and the guy on the front has just hit the wind so may be temporarily digging in to keep the speed up. It's not a safe position, but only if it's held like that.Although the only other photo I have seen has him in second wheel with his head down as well!

I assumed he meant the no socks/calf socks situation of the guy second wheel when he said unacceptable.

In which case I agree whole heartedly.

Good work on a road bike, especially with a recently healed collar bone!

Head down.
It seems be be people with those giros, always.
Still or not, I doubt it's a momentary incident. -

Well done!

So do I need football socks for the Zak Carr this weekend?
Also, anyone wanna lend me a track disc? I'd pay a deposit or something...

Good work on your first 12. If you have any questions or queries about the Mersey, feel free to give me a shout. See you there!

It's getting a bit depressing with riders being hit by cars TT'ing
Evening 10 last night and came around a corner to find the rider in front lying on the ground after being hit by a car. Luckily (?!) it appeared concussion and a few broken bones rather than anything more serious

This may be of interest to some on here from the Cycling Silk http://thecyclingsilk.blogspot.co.uk/
Contributory Negligence (2) Time trialling and failing to avoid an emergency created by another
In Rickson v Bhakar (2017) the High Court made a finding of contributory negligence of 20% against a claimant who was taking part in a time trial on the A27 dual carriageway. The defendant driver had been travelling in the opposite direction and turned right through a gap in the central reservation into the Claimant’s path. Although the claimant had swerved immediately before the collision it was found that he could have braked earlier. As a consequence of his injuries the claimant was not in a position to explain what had occurred. It was inferred that he either had his head down or was too focussed on his performance. A tough lesson that even in the heat of competition a cyclist must be alert and ready to respond to the carelessness of other road users. -

Home made disc wheel.
Which gear for the E2/25? My preferred turbo cadence for sustained power is 103rpm, does this translate directly to the road? Last time I raced the E2 I only did 94rpm, but that was ages ago and pre-turbo training.
Earlier this year on the E1/25B I averaged 99rpm, gear felt good but it's up and down...

Having done it on 72", my advice would be, more than 72".
I'd go for around 100" if it were me. Maybe even more.
-
• #15945
I reckon it'll be 52x14 for 97"
96rpm @ 45kph for a goal of 54:00. -

I'd speak the the organiser first and foremost. Drafting?
In a 50 last month someone took an age to pass me, then would go no further than 20 meters up the road. More than anything I found it extremely off-putting so after a minute or so I sat up and had a drink. Now he was 40-50 metres up the road and I witnessed some terrible riding. Riding on the white lines in the very middle of the road for no reason whatsoever, and taking corners on the wrong side of the road. I considered speaking to the organiser about him, but in the end thought "what's the point?".
Cheating through accompanied riding tho is a no no.

talking of rule breaking, someone has just been busted on TTF for entering two races at the same time, but there's a mention of "free time" does that mean you get banned if you do it?
I have to admit I nearly did the same by mistake and only notice when I went to my basket and went to pay, and i'm sure it was accidentally but its pretty unfair if fast riders hedge their bets and fill up all the fast races without any intention of riding half of them, I always get annoyed if I get rejected from an event and then see a load of DNS's..
Adam Duggelby has apparently taken the 100 mile record to 3:16:51 (30.48mph)
