  • I think I read about the Culprit on TriRig but it was some kind of kickstarter. Like you say, not sure it every got off the ground. I think there was a beam bike with discs as well but I may have dreamed it.

  • I'd love to see some comparison figures for the Parlee against some normal superbikes.

  • Looks like we will see a raft of new TT bikes over the next year or so, as the UCI have dropped the 3:1 rule:

  • Feel sorry for anyone racing CTT and UCI events that bought a UCI-legal bike.

    Fugly Shivs FTW!

  • Typically, I'm looking to buy a TT bike next year. I guess all the current and just announced 2017 TT bikes are going to look outdated come 2018.

Although how much difference a current bike vs a post 3:1 ruling bike will make to me doing a club 10 is going to be moot.

  • Every TT bike is outdated when you buy it. Better off buying last year's model and spending the money savings on aero testing anyway.

  • Might be 10w at the very top end. Might. And that 10w will cost you a lot.

If it's for CTT events nothing has changed, and all the cool kids are already using non UCI compliant triathlon frames, e.g.
    Cervelo P5-Six
Trek SC with fin and draft box
    Felt IA
    Giant Trinity with nose fairing
    Specialized Shiv Tri

  • The Bidlake Memorial Time Trial

I'd like to draw your attention to this event.

It's something out of the ordinary, and if you're feeling a bit jaded after a season of chasing up and down drag strips, this could revive your enthusiasm. Here's a link to my report of last year's edition.

Apart from having an excellent course one of the attractions of the event is the after party. I can't promise exactly who will be present but in previous years a large number of former time trial stars have turned out to help or ride. From memory last year saw the presence of Les West, Frank Colden, Martyn Roach and Alf Engers, among others.

The course is two 18 mile laps, but it is possible to specify that you are only going to do one circuit. It is hilly, and I wouldn't attempt it on fixed, but I'm sure anyone strong enough to do it would at least get a round of applause.

This year's event is on Sunday the 18th September: entries close next week, but I think the organiser may be flexible on this point, however I advise you to get your entry in as soon as possible.

  • West London Cycling Association

Are readers of this column aware that the WLCA is thinking of winding itself up because of lack of committee members and event organisers?

The WLCA is a venerable and useful organisation, which has long been important in the West London time trial scene - it would be a really bad thing if it disappears.

There is a special general meeting at Padworth Village Hall (Reading RG7 4HY) on Sunday 18th September. If anyone here thinks they could help, please go to the meeting, or just phone Jim Burgin and tell him what you are prepared to do.

If you want to help but need a contact, try me, but I'll be away and out of touch (except by text - there's no internet where I'm going) from Monday pm until next Sunday (11th). However, you'd do better just to look at the West London handbook.

It won't be any good having a smart TT bike if there are no events to ride!

  • It's a shame to see things go by the wayside, but our view was that the WLCA was set up to run events for people who could not get on to fast local courses such as the H25/2.

Given that this is no longer the case (our event on the H25/2 in 2 weeks time still has plenty of places), we felt it was no longer needed and that allowing it to disband was probably the right thing, given that everyone is busy and it would need a new committee to come and pick it up.

  • I rode out to help timekeep for the combine 10 this morning. I ended up being a bit annoyed that I'd not been racing since the TCR as my legs felt really good and I kept having to ease off to wait for people, which was a new experience for me! I got back home and Strava gave me a page full of PBs on all the hills. #shouldhavebeenracing

  • I've got enough suits. Might buy another trip suit next year but still have Castelli San Remo suit to get rid of.

  • I'm going to do my club's open 25 on the H25/2 in two weeks' time. Never liked the course much, but if I can't get a course PB I'll be very disappointed.

  • will be there too, as seem to have been accepted before the cut off, which is nice!

trying to get a few club mates to sign up as well, is there a prize for the slowest team?!

  • The cutoff is tomorrow, no?

I raced it earlier in the year with the sole purpose getting ride of that annoying 1:00:04 course best. It was bumpy as hell, I didn't get a clean ski slope and screwed up the turn so I'll let you guys have at it.

I've decided not to bother with a V718 trip as well. Can't be arsed with all that driving now I have the club record.

Season is pretty much done now. Last year I was racing to get into late season 50s and stuff and going quite well but again since nabbing club records for them they hold very little appeal.

  • is there a prize for the slowest team?!

I reckon we might put in a stiff challenge for that!

  • The cutoff is tomorrow, no?

Yes. If you change your mind again!

My course PB (1:02:28) is exactly the same on this course as on the Great Missenden one which is obviously supposed to be much slower. I did it in 2010 at the end of my first season and, at the time, it was a PB. But I rode the course a couple of times the following year and went badly, so have avoided it for the last few years (have also avoided Gt Miss one). But there's not much else on, so I'll give it a shot and see if the TCR base miles approach works for me.

  • Good luck! Don't ride onto the motorway :)

  • What's the current vogue for lightweight tubs for HCs? Need some to replace my current road tubs/blame for me going slower than expected.

  • Records or hunt down some Cronos. Or Pista Evo CS.

  • My vote would be records. Have ridden out to weekly TTs on mine and they have been flawless, including in some very wet rides. Easy to mount as well.
    Acycles usually cheapest.
