I didn't push much at all...managed a 1:07...
I think I'd be able to drop it to 1:00 or thereabouts, without much troubleDon't be too disappointed if you don't get under in your first 25, or even in your first season. Going from 1:08:00 to 1:00:00 needs about 35-40% more power, all else being equal.

4th in the National 12 hour and missed a medal by 0.7 of a mile. On fixed. And on a steel frame. Cool as fuck when compared to all the other bikes in the gallery.

Mark is best known in the Time Trialling community as 'PNuT' a nickname he has had since he was very young. He is tall and wiry, with thin muscles but is regularly seen racing fixed with 52*12 gearing, and training with similar gearing for 400miles per week, even through the winter.
After starting cycling in 2002, Mark had a very impressive first couple of years with PB's of:
10m - 20.42
25m - 53.29
50m - 1.51.40
100m - 3.49.48
12hr - 254.96
24.272 BBAR average speed..along with winning the Haverhill Hilly Time Trial; Eastern counties hill climb; the Sudbury Hill climb and a very impressive 7th in the National Hill Climb. He then had a couple of quiet years before making an impressive rejuvenation in 2009. His highlights of the last 3 seasons are as follows:

Welwyn Wheelers RR winner2008 Achievements
ECCA HC winner2009 Achievements
West Suffolk Wheelers TT Winner
Kings Lynn 2UP Winner & course Record with Nino Piccoli 53.51

In a way I'm in a similar position since I was out as a result of my crash. However, I have a vague idea floating in my mind that, using the £25 fixed prize, we might have some kind of special club event at the end of the season.
I'm thinking of a sporting course, perhaps 30 -40 miles, using the roads which were once part of the Bath Road 100 north west of Newbury, going through Chilton Foliat, and then onto the Ermine Street (as used in the 10 championship in 2009).
Of course the committee dinosaurs may well veto the idea, but does this sound an attractive idea to any one here?I believe this is going to happen. It will be an additional Hounslow club event. The time and date to pencil into your diary is 2pm, Saturday 30th October 2010.
The event will be over three laps of the 'Gracious Pond' circuit (HCC137) a distance of 27.06 miles. This is a sporting course using 'B' roads in the area between Chertsey and Chobham (Surrey). It is undulating, but there's nothing that can't be climbed on a single gear without excessive stress, and can easily be reached from Staines or Weybridge main line stations. Ease of access for riders and helpers took precedence over the 'hallowed tarmac of the Bath Road' mentioned in my original post.
This event is particularly aimed at fixed or single speed riders who entered the Hounslow 100, but all are welcome. The single gear prize from the 100 will be transferred to this race.
I will be away from this Saturday until the 8th September. When I'm back I will post again to report progress and give a better descrition of the course and how to find it.
It would be nice to hear from anyone interested in riding, although as a club event it will be entry on the line. -

Rode the North Hampshire 25 today on the H25/8. Not the best preparation, as I punctured going down to the start. Walked back to the race HQ, and was able to borrow Mrs S's front - fortunately they let me in in place of a non-starter.
Although it was very windy, I did a new pb of 1.00.05. Quite pleased, in a bitter sweet sort of way. A strange race - struggling to keep the speed above 20mph into the wind; down wind was a different story :-).
The wife did a 58.17.

Well done, Will. I was going to post a chippy comment about trying 5secs harder so I'm really glad you beat me to it and with a PB too. Well done to Bex too, good victory. On the face of it it looked like a shocking day but I managed to wipe 2mins off my PB too.

Didn't see you there John (and was too buggered after the event to look for anyone else's times!), although I saw you on the start sheet. Congrats on your pb - particularly given the wind!
My previous PB was nothing to shout home about. I had set myself a goal of going under the hour this year and as an incentive figured if I could, I'd buy myself a TT bike. However, having busted my collar bone in May, this was the first actual TT i've done this year. I'm going to do the same course again in September (19th I think) - might have to invest in a pointy hat!.

I checked out the KCA 12 hour TT course the other day, here is a screen shot of it, so any one else [Hippy] can have a look.
Course instructions
http://www.kca12hour.org.uk/coursedetails.phpSeems to be a mix of flat and rolling sections with a long drag up the A2070 that is in the later circuits.

I'm not doing it. I've lost interest in cycling. I'm enjoying getting drunk, working until 5am and reading books on the Tube. I also like strolls on the beach, apple pie and midgets with a penchant for cocaine and sexual experimentation...

H25/8 again this morning. 3 minutes 45 slower than last week with a 1.03.50. Despite this, my power was only 1 watt down at 279w (although I couldn't get my heart rate up for love nor money - average 164bpm which is pants!). Most of the riders thought that it was a slow day.

1:0:45 on the H25/2 this morning, and I get to go through the same routine tomorrow for the H10/22 with a start time 1 minute earlier. Beat a bunch of people who regularly get under on that course on a good day, which is pleasing and annoying in equal measure.

rode 2 tens this weekend, 21.47 sat and 21.58 mon, niether a super fast day but i was pleased, kicked myself for not running 110" monday thinking wind was stronger than it was for the return when it wasnt all that bad! ah well always next season now !!
does anybody know of a nice 25 coming up ?? would like to go under the hour this year but dont have a local event to me that i can make!!

• #1365
What's your idea of local? There's the North Hampshire on the H25/8 on 18th Sept and agiskoviner.com on the same course 2 weeks later. If you're doing sub-22 10s anywhere you should be able to get under on that course, as it's decent enough. Alex Dowsett did a 47:50 on it earlier this year, but if there are no Pro riders out it's usually won in 51 or 52 unless it's a very nasty day.

local, hmm id say 2 1/2 hours, im cambridge, just looked at the later one and it says canceled on the ctt website, tempted by the 18th though, wha sort of course is it ?? sporting or dc?

H25/8 is on the A31 dual carriageway. It's slightly rolling, but nothing you can't handle on fixed if that's how you roll. On the Sunday 19th there's the Norland Combine on F1/25, which is nearer to you but only 90 riders and it's a quick-ish course (Hutchinson has done a 48 on it) so you might not get in if you haven't beaten the hour LTS.

KCA 12 hour done and so are my knees Fuck that was a hard ride, started well until turning in to the wind at Camber, 85" fixed and wind don't mix "well not with my dodgy legs" started getting bouts of cramp pushing so hard on the pedals and by 12 midday that started playing havoc with my knees and I just got slower and slower.
A puncture at 12.30 gave me the chance to flip the wheel and gear down to 80" but by then the damage was done and it was Ibuprofen and sheer bloody mindidness that saw me finish.First 50 in 2h.25m and 100 in 5h.31m
My Garmin said 190.1miles at the 12 hour point but then I cramped really bad and had to hobble up a hill before rolling down to the last timekeeper so that will probably effect the official calculation.Steve Berry of San Fairy Ann CC road a great ride and looks like he has beaten the course record with 276miles.

Find local clubs and ask them or get the TT handbook. http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/

Jack have a look on the ctt website http://www.ctt.org.uk/
You can download entry forms etc, the only missing information is organisers addresses, you need a handbook or know someone with one you can ask for that so you know where to send the entry. -
• #1372
Obviously don't buy a 2010 handbook now :-)
-
• #1373
You should also find that London East District Committee of CTT publish an annual handbook detailing club events in your area. Your club will probably get a club copy and can get you one of your own, they're usually just a couple of quid.
-
• #1374
Oh ok then thanks for all the help! I think my club is a little too unorganised to still own the handbook, ha!
