Trains usually aren't an option for early starts and I don't like ruining my fast tyres on some shitting ride home. I'd rather wear out the car. :)
I promise I'll ride the E2 course at some stage. :)

I'm not the only one, although im still riding the event and not throwing my toys out of the pram!

• #12054
Eh?

• #12055
get some of these then, and ride out on your training wheels carrying your race wheels :)

Oh, right. More TTF whinging.
On the other hand that does provide some justification for at least a 1 of the 2 minutes that Tops put into me during last year's event. I blame the start time...

£80! I just gave an original pair away, which I picked up at a cycle jumble for loose change.

Indeed. The signal to noise ratio on TTF is rather poor.

I did the E2/10 at the weekend, was a little disappointed with my time, but it was a crap headwind on the way back and it's early season. I got a return to Cambridge and rode out and back from there. Not sure how I would do it with an early start.

I've raced the National 12hr out there when everyone was 7-10mi down on their normal distances because of the wind. I guess you need to be lucky with the day (which is likely true of most of the fast courses people rave about).
I've entered a 25mi out there as my 30mi PB is 2.5mph quicker than my 25mi PB so it needs 'fixing'.

It must have been a pretty stiff headwind, as Alex Dowsett's time for the return leg was slower than my PB for the E2/10 return leg, despite him doing a 17:45.

He cocked up pacing

• #12064
That's the thing about the E2, if the wind is wrong it is not a fast course. A light north westerly seems to be the preferred direction.
-
• #12065
I felt as though I paced it quite well in terms of effort (no PM to confirm it) but I was almost 6kph slower on the way back!

I did a 25 on the E2 last year (Shaftesbury middle markers) and it was hell. Took me almost 40 minutes to get to the turn, into a gale. Fast coming back but too late by then
-
• #12067
You never know until you go.
That's why that argument on ttf about start times seems so daft - anything could happen at any time so there's no reason to assume later is faster.

I really want to do a 25 again. Reckon 25 mile TT is the best race.

I did sundays E99/25 RTTC classic as i couldnt enter the E2 event. did 1:03:09 coming in 13th place. Last year the course was shortened from 25.5 miles to 23 and i took 1h02m in similar conditions. Id try it fixed but the final hill is a bit of a killer so i wimped out.

I did the same event. 35 mins to the turn, 25 mins coming back. Unsurprisingly I hit a 25 mile TT power PB.

Everything below 100 miles for me is shit because my leg goes numb and I have to sit up to get it working again :(
I'm trying to book an appointment with some physio guru to see if her magic hands can help.
I think I like 50s and 100s the most - they're over in a morning and they can still end up taking longer than the drive out to the start :)
-
• #12072
I REALLY need to do a 100. I think i'd like them.
If I got aero on a good bike I think I'd be able to do a big ride in a 100.Next year.

• #12073
100s r that bestest
-
• #12074
100s are my favourite distance, too. Worth travelling for, but don't wipe you out for a couple of weeks like a 12 or 24.
I think I might stay in bed tomorrow morning - knee still just a bit twingy from the Dean last Saturday. Good luck everyone riding

I've not dared peer in to that particular TTF argument but I'd never really thought about later being faster until I did a 50 on the P885 (I think) course on the A3 last year.
It's two laps, and I only had enough power in my legs for one as I'd done the Newbury 12-hour 2 weeks before and then E2/100 the previous weekend (basically I did them in the wrong order). I was off early that day, maybe 6:20. From a power point of view, I died at the start of the second lap. But the traffic picked up, and I ended up doing that lap being quicker, despite being 20-25 watts down from the first lap.
Yeah, the ride back option is what I've done before. Or get train out and ride back with rucksack.
