  • Someone will surely need some of this hhsb radness

  • Anyone want some Raltech covers? They've 'near new' having been bought in Feb '15 for ~£200 but only done about 7hrs/180mi in last year's (dry) World 24hr TT Champs in Nov and nothing else. They're the best you can buy (lightest version - ultra?) and designed for Powertap G3 with HPlusSon Archetype rim.

Thought I'd see if anyone on this sub-section wants them before I TTF them.

  • I wonder if they'd fit my PT track, I think the hub shell is the same? That said they look quite lenticular, so might not fit the T3 seat stays...

  • I'd also like 'em but not sure if they'll fit my Scala. 11 spd setup.

  • I know someone using Raltecs in a Scapa, though with an 88mm rim so might have a slightly different profile. You're welcome to them, I doubt that bulge will fit my bike.

  • It's not a big bulge - how skinny are the stays?

  • Third dibs?

  • Aero testing today at Newport, finally did a back to back on an identically set up T4 vs my P2C, T4 wins and is now my 2016 race bike. Don't ask me what the difference was ha.

Wheels were fun, in the T4 a Chinese 86mm super wide Zipp/HED copy was only 0.0028m^2 worse than a HED Stinger 7 (75mm), both with Veloflex Records on at the same pressure so an excellent budget option. That's 3.5w on a course like the H10/8 at 21:15 speed. On V718 at 19:30 speed it's 4.5w.

  • How much drag do you think that brake cable is generating?

  • I could stick it through CFD given the time, I leave it pressed against the headtube which may or may not be the best plan

  • CFD

It's all about the TLAs :-)
Reduce your CDA with CFD, while I finish the CAD and FEA on this so that I can generate tool paths over the weekend as a CAM training exercise

  • Are you going to make these? Dibs if so.

  • Are you going to make these?

I'm awaiting a quote from the machinist for the simplified version, don't expect them to be cheap!

  • Nice, what's the added stack height?

  • what's the added stack height?

3mm from the top of the bearing collet to the bottom of the stem, so 2mm more than one of my bearing covers or 1mm less than the stock cover on a P2/P3 etc.

  • Interesting - makes an OmegaX much more feasible for an og Px

  • The original idea was to make the Omega X a better fit on the Cervelos. The caliper mounted cable stop on the X doesn't have the chamfer on it which made the original Omega such a tidy fit on the classic Cervelos, the X needs a huge shim between the brake body and the fork crown to make the cable stop clear the nose cone, so you end up with a big gap between the brake arms and the fork blades.

I'm happy with my flexi-noodle and original Omega, I'm doing the bare-wire style hanger for somebody else.

  • Thanks - bidded

  • What time were you doing the testing? I saw a red T4 there when I was at the vets' session Friday evening.

  • We left around 12ish, were there from 8. I'm normally there all week for the drop ins and AeroCoach sessions around them.

  • Ah, ok - it must have been a different T4 that I saw Friday evening then. Do you do the Friday evening Vets session at all?

  • Sometimes I cheekily jump in but I'm not a vet so if I'm there on a Friday I'll do the 7-9am session instead!

  • I did my first TT of the year this morning, the Ely & District Hardriders. @Cycliste was off early while I was number 88, so I had lots of time to get ready. While I was still putting my shoes/overshoes/tripstripshinsocks on the first victims of the technical nature of the course were returning, bloodied and bruised. There was a tailwind for the beginning of the course, leading to a potentially fast off-camber corner which was slippery due to the moisture left from the rain the day before. Quite a few people fell off there.

PNuT came past me just before the 12km mark (he started 2 minutes behind me) and went on to win with a 56 minute ride. I took things a bit more leisurely and did a long 1:04, but then my target was to go sub 1:05 so mission accomplished. And we won the team prize, which is nice.

The weather wasn't too bad - very cold, and very windy, but at least it didn't rain. It is a bloody hard course though, particularly with the wind from the NE.

  • Tyre question - I've just picked up a HED 3 clincher front wheel and need to get a tyre for it. I want it to be fast, but as I don't have a car, I will be riding to and from TTs, so some puncture resistance and durability will be needed. What are the options?
