  • A number of ways - riding long distances is not conducive to going fast in 10s/25s and spending a month riding across a country in the middle of the year eliminates a lot of options for entering CTT races, not to mention the time off the bike afterwards trying to regrow my undercarriage.

  • I think I'm going to travel to some fast courses.
I'm tired of having shit like road works spoil my local courses and listening to other people with crazy times just because they've raced Hull or Wales.

10s and 25s are afterthoughts. The proper stuff starts at 50s...

  • True dat having done more miles then Wiggins.

This. I guess we all fixate on PBs when really the finishing position on the day is much more relevant. There are 3 people in the club I've never beaten, scalping one of them this season is another goal to add to the list.

  • You got club records? Aim for them and then you know you're the fastest in your club :)

I like winning events too but given my target event(s) are so infrequent it's a bit trickier than the blokes that go out and race club 10s three times a week.

  • Yeah but club records include open events on any course so they're all set on float days at fast courses. I'm not quite in the top division to be challenging the club course records but nicking one or two rounds of the club comp from the fast 3 is a possibility I think.

  • My club 24 and 12hr records weren't set on the fastest courses or particularly fast days. Stop blinkering yourself to 10s and 25s :P

    Nah, good goals.

Was there a min. entry time for the National 50?

  • @hippy im pretty sure entry to the nationals works the same as for normal opens (apart from submitted entry times having to be from and open rather than a club event) so no minimum time. by the looks of things last year they didn't get a full entry last year, and even if they did you wouldn't have had a problem making the cut as there were people going well over 2hrs last year...

  • Yeah, it was the cutoff time I was worried about.
I thought they might have a stronger field being a 50mi.
eg. I'm not sure I'd make the 25mi with the shitty time I have.

    Cheers Ed.

  • Qualifying times for Nationals have to be from open events in the current and previous season only, not LTS like opens

  • My pb was set in September I think so no bother.

  • Nat 50 course this year is hilly.

  • Lucky I'm a pedigree climber then eh?

  • Nat 50 isn't typically a full field, and on a hilly course almost certainly won't be.

  • I don't have a time for anything then! Best get racing.

  • just spend May hanging out in @umop3pisdn endz, theres H10/8, H50/8 and H100/8, then all you need to do is find an open 25....

  • Sweet. Those all might be very easy to get to by then.

My 25pb is actually on the bentley course too!

  • it was the cutoff time I was worried about

I scraped in with a 2:09 a few years ago when it was on the P885, but if it's not on a fast course pretty much any time will get you a ride in the 50.

  • Not everyone who old you their 10 time recently has been up to Hull.

Come up to Tring for a midweek 10 on the F11 and we can enjoy a couple of Tring Brewery pints afterwards.

...and my 10 time wasn't set on that course either.

  • I think it was 2007 when I got in the National 50 with a 2:21 or something, was seeded last or close to it! It was on the F1/50 or some variation of it, I think I did a 1:53 in the end and fancy going back as I reckon it would be alright for fixed, even the lumpy bit at the southern end.

  • Isn't the F1 done?

Or was it just closed for a few years.

  • Yeah I think you're right but there's at least a version of something that uses similar sections of roads.

Edit - the F1B/50 is the one I was on about

  • I don't know if it is an issue for anyone but I heard that as of last night LFGSS had not re-affiliated with CTT. Not sure if that is intentional or an oversight?

  • Cool. My 1:51 is solid enough. Maybe I should focus on a fast course to get my club record rather than the Nat's where I'll get spanked anyway.

List of the fastest 50 courses anyone?

  • I've heard Tring is fast (Nick from Grupetto has done an 18 on it) - I've just never managed to get to it.

It needs to be an Open too if I'm gunning for club records, I don't think club events count (other than for my PB hunting I guess).

What's your 10 PB and where did you set it?
