Just risk it. Apparently even at the "worlds" they didn't care about the bike, just position on it.

Just seen this: http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=104433
Is national 12h in June? What! I thought it was same time as this year.
-
• #10930
That's what it says. What made you think it would be the same as this year? I guess it is usually later in the year but probably depends on who wants to host it.
-
• #10932
It's unlikely they will change the dates much so, yes.
-
• #10933
Ignorance. Just assumed it would.
Shame.
-
• #10934
Yes I can't ride national 24 or 12 now.
-
• #10935
They'll be there the year after. I won't be able to ride 'em either if TransAm goes ahead.
-
• #10936
Yeah I know. Just shame I can't do both logistically as I could physically.

In other news my replacement V-Sprint pump head has arrived so I will be able to fit my Turbo Cotton tyre on the back of the Shiv for the Welsh 50 Champs Sunday. I was going to stay over, but it looks, with my later start, like I'll just get up at 4ish again and drive out and drive back afterwards. #csb

Does anyone know what you have to do to enter/qualify for the National 10Mile? I thought it would be fun to set a TT target for next season although I'm not sure it's realistic.
-
• #10939
Be faster than the cutoff time, which will depend on who else enters.
-
• #10941
Fastest in last three seasons. You can find results and probably talk of the cutoff times at time trialling forum.

Great, thanks. It looks like this year's was 21 mins. So it may be a bit of a push, only done one open road 10 and did 23.07 It was on a road bike with clip ons, but going over 2 mins faster is a bit of a leap I think!

Well, you have 6 months to work out how to find those 2min. Will you be using the same bike or getting a TT machine? Racing more will help you work out how to go faster. You'll find faster courses, positions, kit, etc.

I'm entertaining the idea of putting together a TT machine, and actually training would help! Any advice welcomed, it's reassuring to hear that 2 mins is not a ridiculous amount of time to lose.

Many events on fast courses get over subscribed and you need to post a fast qualifying time even to get a chance at a ride. However some clubs run the occasional 'slowest 100' riders events which give a chance for slower riders to ride a quick course. Depending on where you set your current PB, a decent ride on one of the fast courses could easily shave 60, 90 or more seconds off your current time.

Yeah, I tried to enter a couple on the course Dowsett set the national 10 record but was rejected cause LFGSS isn't affiliated to ECCA. Still havent had my money back actually! My PB was on the F10/10 north of Ware which was described to me as 'a bit rolling'.

I knocked big chunks off my 10 time just by riding my TT bike more often than once a month in a race. There's lots to be gained with aerodynamics as well as training well. Basically, if you wanted it, you could pretty easily find that 2mins.
-
• #10949
Yep, good call. @cjr where was your PB set?
Ah, F10/10. I think the F20/10 was a fast course? They resurfaced it but it was still quick I believe. But it's not run very often, so you're probably better off riding some of the other courses whilst working on your position and training. Then hit a few fast courses once your times are coming down.

I don't know the F10/10, but the F11/10 near Tring is pretty quick, and VC10 run a Wednesday evening club TT there most weeks of the summer. I think that your qualifying time for nationals needs to be set during an open event, however posting a decent time on the F11/10 might also improve your chances of getting a ride on one of the properly quick courses.
^Was thinking about doing that. Then I saw the £50 entry fee.
