It was pissing down. There were sheets of water flowing across the roads out there. Lovely stuff.
I rode the Kinesis winter bike rather than mess up the TT bike. -

^ Is that Wilo? And Mrs S?
Indeed - had I known that she was that close, I might have gone faster!!

Ruth was organising - she rode in the Di Cooke Memorial 10 up near Nuneaton yesterday and was 3rd woman, behind Michelle King and Mrs S.
I'm guessing Mrs S will be challenging for medals at some of the national champs this year then?
I've known Ruth for many years and used to ride tours with her in the Alps and Pyrenees. We used to encourage her to race as she was clearly very strong but didn't train properly. Now she's a multiple national champion and full time coach.

Ruth has been coaching Mrs S; she has taken her from nothing (she didn't even own a bike) to something in 2 years. She won't be on the podium in the 10 or 25, but is hoping she might get lucky in the longer events.

I'd imagine Ruth is a very good coach.
Fingers crossed for a good ride when it matters for Mrs S.

+1, although I imagine it always matters as far as she's concerned.

Thank you both - she will be touched.
The only way you can tell how much it matters is looking at when she cuts out the white wine. If it's only three days before a race, the race is a low priority. For the Nationals, I suspect it will be a fortnight.

^ She is on a de-stickered Bora; I'm on a handbuilt (Tune/Corima). Continental tubs on both. The wheel I'm on is actually her spare. This event suited her (long and tough), as she is much much more competitive over the longer distances.
She actually put 11 minutes into her nearest rival... which coincedentally was the same margin over me.

Helpful advice last night from my 8 year old son, flush from success in the U8s, at Palace - "Daddy, I think you need to be quicker at the start, in the middle and at the end..."

Thought I would post this here instead of making a new thread. Looking for sime TT bars for my jaunts around Richmond Park, just some clip on ones for my road bike. Thought I would ask here before going on fleaBay. Shoot me a PM if you have anything.

Colnago_costa was selling some Cinelli Spinaci bars recently, they'd be ideal.

I've been training on the road for just over a year now and have a few routes between 20 - 40 miles, oh and a big 72 mile loop. They are all relatively flat. What is reasonable / quick for these kind of distances. There is a club in aberdeen but I don't want to go out on their rides and get completely destroyed. I did 36 miles in 2 hours dead today on my fixed BJ and I'm consistenly riding around or slightly over 20 miles in an hour.

36 miles in 2hrs on your own is decent, the club rides will probably be further but no quicker. Also in a group its a whole lot less hard work. You will be fine - get out there!

Hippy - see you were scheduled to be doing the High Wycombe 25 this morning - how did it go? I take it Chrissie Radon won the ladies...

Well, I wasn't too happy with 1:00.04 but thinking about it..
I'd been drinking at a mate's 40th for 12 hours yesterday.
I got to bed at 1.30am after eating a 12" meatball subway to ease the hangover.
I woke up at 4.30am and had only instant coffee to drink.
I rode (a bit shakey and holding back the vom) to the start 40k away.
I did set a PB for the 25 and took 1:29 off my previous best time on that course (set on a road bike 2 years ago) but a guy I used to beat took 4 mins out of me.
My power data indicates that I'm producing about the same power on the TT bike as I did on the road bike. This is good.
If I didn't miss a turn and get stopped at 2 RABs I'd have made sub-hour.
I can barely walk now. This is bad.
@ BMMF - you've clearly got too much time on your hands!! @ Hippy - cold and windy; I hear there might have been some rain in and around London yesterday morning?!
