  • Deepest condolences to you and her family.

  • I am really shocked. So sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences.

  • What terrible news - so very sorry for your loss, Velcro.

  • Dreadful news - thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • So sorry to here this, my thoughts are with you and your GFs family.

  • so very sorry to hear of your loss. truly tragic news.

  • My sincerest condolences. I can't even imagine how this must feel.
My thoughts are with you and her family.

  • oh christ that's terrible.

    so very sorry.

  • Oh shit no - deep condolences to all that are close ...

  • OK, So I've just tried to have a normal lunch but couldn't. I can't shake this thread, it's extremely upsetting. Things have been so much easier when it wasn't in our neighbourhood so to speak. All road accidents shake us, all deaths leave us a little affected, but when it happens to friends, friends of friends and those within a few degrees of separation then it hits, it's real, it's human, and it brings home the mortality, the tragedy.

Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that it was lucky that given the size of the forum it's taken this long. I'm not in agreement that it has to be so inevitable.

I've been thinking of velcro since he posted, and I remember that empty numb feeling when people I know have passed on. It's harrowing.

I feel a strong need to do something. That's just a human reaction, but coupled with running the forum I think perhaps we could do something.

I don't know where to start though.

A memorial ride, a ghost bike, some action, a large bouquet from the forum to the family.

I think we should do something to help the family, to help velcro... even if it's a small something.

Ideas appreciated, though if velcro or the family disagree and want to keep it all private then their views rule.

  • +1 VB - A forum gesture would be appropriate and heartfelt.

  • Sad, sad news. Please accept my most sincere condolencies, velcro.

    Sam

  • +1 Memorial Ride

Maybe somone could video the ride and make a copy for Velcro and his partner's family?

Seeing people that didn't necessarily know someone, but show they cared, will be a bit special.

  • when the time is right I would happily contribute to something that Eilidh believed in and cared for

  • feel very upset and sad for velcro and eilidh's friends and family - as a forum newbie i don't know if there's something we can do as a community to honour eilidh or if there have been other occasions when this happens - please let me know

  • Agree with BDW, A contribution towards something she believed in would be a fantastic gesture.

  • +1 to the memorial ride idea.

  • oh god, I'm so sorry velcro.

  • when the time is right. i can't imagine what velcro is going though. lets not rush these things. its up to velcro what is appropriate really. david k hit the mood on the head, but lets see what velcro would like.

  • +1 to doing something as a mark of respect at the appropriate time. When you think of the numbers that turned up for the Tweed run or Bridges ride then the forum should be able to generate as good or better turn out for something as important as this.

  • Thought are with you Velcro, and her family and friends.

VB - Is there anything constructive we could do to help. Financially or anything else?

  • The more I think about this, the more upset I am getting. I really cant understand how you are feeling and how I would cope in your situation. I think it was extremly brave to be able to post this up on the forum in what must be such a hard time for you. Again, I am sorry for your loss.

I think as a forum we really should do something (because we can). That is a great idea VB. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

  • How fucking awful.

My thoughts are with you and both families, Velcro.

Take a bit of extra care out there everyone - it's still shit conditions.

  • Utterly tragic. Deepest sympathies velcro.
    Take care everyone.

  • sadly, this was my girlfriend Eilidh, she was riding the bike she loved on the route she takes to work everyday. she died in hospital yesterday. words cannot express how much i loved that girl. cycle safely.
    giles

    oh my god ! :'(
My sympathies...oh jesus i have no idea what to say.
    It's just so awful.
