• Hell Yeah!!!!! I'll be on the cannondale with lower pressures!!

    HTFU, you pussies!!!!!!

    Amen to that. HTFU LONDON!

  • Well done Clefty! Top notch HTFU!

I'm going back to my huge cooked breakfast, hot coffee and my eternal, eternal shame.

  • I think today calls for the BMX to be brought out. Lower pressures and the ability to hop off the back in an instant FTW.

  • Well done Clefty. I set out at 05:30, got about a mile and turned back after a couple of sideways moments.

Got the train. Wish I hadn't. No idea how I'm going to get home.

  • Great ride to work today. My road was treacherous so I rode on the virgin snow and not on the compacted slippery stuff. Once on to the main roads - New North Road - I just rode carefully in car tracks. Came round Old St roundabout, Great Eastern Street and Commercial Street without any problem. Slow and steady. One car became irritated with the thought of him having to go off the beaten track rather than me and passed very close. Delighted to see him rear end another car at the next lights. Usually cut round through Spitalfields but that was like an ice rink. Came down to Aldgate and had to dismount for the last 100 yards off main roads. One cleat became clogged with snow. Brakes completely useless. Thank goodness for a fixed wheel.

Looking out of the window, most roads appear to be clearing as more traffic passes. I could have waited but where would have been the fun in that.

    Slow and steady. Ride safely.

    Take it slow and steady.

  • It was quite serene and peaceful this morning as I left home.

  • So I've just heard it's supposed to get worse this afternoon/evening, and that basically rules out going to work at all.

I think I'm going to go take a walk in Kew Gardens this morning, it looks like it will be gorgeous.

  • Was toying with the idea of doing an HTFU and going in. On the way to the newsagents I saw two things that changed my mind

    1. A cyclist on an MTB stack it on some ice at the roundabout (shaken but OK)
    2. The black road sludge that I would have to ride through.

Back to the hot coffee and tea

  • Just got in to work after a 7 mile cycle into town. It was perhaps one of the most dangerous things I have done in a while. Still had my track gearing on from the weekend. Coming down Highate Hill was a fucking nightmare. I never came off though, I saw plenty of others hit the deck!

It is treacherous out there so be careful, take it really really slow

  • lol, ^^^^^^ was thinking of doing that to be fair, got the northern line instead though, get into work only to find no dentistsa are workng, no patients coming in and i'm the only person at work!!!!!! this forum seems like it might be just a tad more active than normal?

  • mikec, well done. I was lucky not to have any steep slopes but riding fixed was the only way to go today. Brakes were useless. It could be, on the descent, your high gearing helped you control the bike better. Don't envy you climbing up it tonight.

  • So, we had a big system upgrade this weekend, I was sposed to go in to work for 7am this morning.
Go to bed last night a little nervous. This morning, realised that no trains or tubes would be working so decided to HTFU and go for it. Had to walk two streets to Colliers Wood High St because it was too thick to ride. Seriously have any gritters been out tonight? It didnt even get better as I got further into London, pretty much travelled through Stockwell sideways.
First and prob only one in office, probably the scariest, most exciting , but slowest ride of my life

Its fucking icy out there people, but on the upside I've never got so much respect from car traffic in my life.
Saw 2 other cyclists, we all waved at each other cheerily.

Here's a pic outside my work in St Katharines Dock... SNOWSPOK!

    You are so fucking bad-ass.

  • Snow ball fight, victoria park.

Cheers, yep my front brake deserted me completely after about 1 minute so it was rear wheel all the way. Fixed is the only way in this weather, cos of the traction you get from the rear. Some idiot on a mountain bike came flying ]
past me quite recklessly down the hill. I expected to see him in a mangled heap somewhere but he must have been lucky. Typical, everyone else was giving me loads of room and space except one cock on a bike! I will stick the lower gear on for the ride home methinks!

  • You gotta love a little a bit of snow. The whole of the UK seems to shut down!

  • We went out for a midnight exploration last night, snow cycling should be a new sport... I only fell off once!

  • FTW

  • That was fucking awesome! people smiling/laughing, cute girl hitting me with a snowball ...AND MASSIVE SKIDS!!! :D

  • this photo's lovely nick...

  • Not going out. Last time it snowed this bad in london I fell off on the way in; as did all my colleagues. then I fell off again and a large helpful woman came over to help. she slipped, landed on my bike and bent the crank.

    so, snow day for me.

  • Spokangel.

lol sorry to laugh Will but thats just bad luck! :(

  • Utterly pissed off. Not enough snow to be fun but enough to turn drivers into a bunch of panicky maniacs.

Hopefully Swindon will be a foot deep by the time I go home. Mind you, I didn't switch over to my cross tires this morning so icyness on the way home should be a bit testing.
