I don't know about any borrowings, but as I'm mainly interested in lyrics, there just aren't many in Bowie's work that I like. I don't know much about composition, either, but records he produced generally sounded great. (I haven't listened to them all.) My favourite is Lou Reed's Transformer, truly transformed from the fairly unremarkable record it would probably have become without Bowie's (and Mick Ronson's) touch.

Also, if anyone needs another reason to like Bowie, he refused a Knighthood.
Well, he was already a Duke, so that offer was a bit of an insult.

Sorry, misread your post. Yeah at the end they're quite similar.

Thanks for the information, most interesting:

You can certainly make a case for Brain Eno's own work being influenced by this lot (although he might argue his contribution was vital), I just don't see much trace of it on the albums he did with Bowie.
And even if there are then so what - everything stems from something. -

He made an arse of Raw Power.
Although he did put that down to being off his face for the whole time.

And curiously it's probably my fave of all their LPs, incredible record even though the production is so weirdly off... I actually love it the way it is, Iggy made a right mess of the remix...
PS The first UK pressing of Raw Power has an incredible (and totally different) mix of Search & Destroy, it's a revelation...
