You think? Seriously? He's won Roubaix three times, Flanders twice, been World Champion and won the green jersey and multiple stages in the Tour. He's still only 28.
I'd say his reputation is well earned.Overrated was perhaps the wrong word. I dislike him because he's so fucking popular. I'd like nothing more than for Devolder to topple him and Boonen win nothing. It's not common sense it's another of my irrational irritations. :)

As for my comment about Pozzato getting nowhere: when you're wheelsucking the same guy during consecutive 2 classics and openly announcing that you will be wheelsucking that guy so you can beat him at the end, getting beaten in a man to man battle IS getting nowhere. On the other hand if he would have attacked, he might have won it if he was as good as he's been saying.
Nevertheless, Pozzato is definately a great rider and at least he know how to steer his bike...A double for Devolder would have been nice, yes, but to say that Boonen is overrated is a bridge too far. Sure, there are better sprinters than him, and I don't think anybody ever claimed he was a sprinter pur-sang, but he's a hell of a classics rider. Anyhow, the Boonen-hype has died down a little as people realised he is just human too and the extreme idolisation wasn't doing him any good.
Pozzato beat Boonen in a sprint in the E3. If it worked there then it's a reasonable tactic to adopt. Just because it didn't work in Flanders doesn't mean it's a worthless tactic. You will notice Pozzato died in the arse towards the end of P-R, so his TTing ability is not as good as Boonens. So, it's reasonable to assume his chances of winning in a breakway are less than Boonens. AND Pozz was caught behind a crash.. no wonder Boonen attacked.
Anyway, he's still finished on the podium for the last 3 classics, riding against Belgians in the strongest Classics team. I'd call that getting somewhere.
Yeah, 'overrated' was a poor choice of word. Over-hyped maybe. If he can stay off the charlie he might actually win some more races this year :)

I think you're over-rating him there, actually.

I was uber-ratting him.

I'm not sure that this is totally fair - I watched it live, and it was noticeable that for much of the final 10kms, Boonen was being filmed from a motorbike in front, Pozzato was being filmed from behind. Probably helps a fair old bit. Not taking anything away from Boonen - strongest man in the race.

Looks as if he's badly injured.
-
• #240
Yeah, he wasn't sitting up at all.. but he was still moving which is better than not moving.
-
• #241
Still, not looking good at all... They're both getting lots of medical attention on the ground so it's probably quite bad... Schleck was getting oxygen even...
-
• #242
"Schleck took a hard blow to the head, as was obvious. Albert of RTL Radio in Luxembourg told us that he heard Schleck wanted to get up and continue the race – running, as he knew his bike was broken. We think the hospital is a better place for him right now."

Just watching Stage 8 of Tour of Turkey.. someone THREW the GC leader into the railings!!
Took 'em all down. 3 crashes in the last 3k! Carnage!"Daryl Impey won the 45th Presidential Tour of Turkey but he didn't enjoy the post-race celebrations due to injuries suffered in a crash with 800 metres to go of the final stage. Impey remained on the ground for 20 minutes before getting back on his bike to cross the finish line. He was taken to the hospital in Alanya where the doctors reported a fracture of the third disc of his lumbar vertebra, a micro-fracture of his neck, facial trauma, a few broken teeth and a deep cut in his lips."
"With 800 metres to go, former track sprinter Theo Bos (Rabobank Continental) put his right hand on Impey's shoulder and caused the crash. The panel of UCI commissaires watched the TV replay several times but chose not to take action against Bos for his involvement in the accident as it was unclear whether or not he did it aggressively."
It was Theo Bos! Fucking 'ell. They're not taking action but it looked pretty clear he grabbed his jersey and pushed him into the fence.

This one right? Bang to rights, fucking outrageous.

Yeah. That's the one. I don't quite know what he was hoping to achieve by dragging him in front of his own bike other than he 's got something soft to hit now instead of the fence. :)

Looking at it in slo-mo its just insane - as you say he must have known he was going down with him, at what, 35 - 40 kph or something like that?!! He must really fucking hate him. I haven't really followed that race - what did he do to deserve that?
-

I don't think it was like that. As the commentators were saying, Impey was moving across and Bos was gonna get squeezed into the fence. He was trying to stop that, apparently. I would've shouldered him the other way, but then you risk taking down more people. I dunno, it looks well dodgy but they're not going to do anything because it wasn't malicious.. he was just trying to save himself from the barriers that Impey was forcing him into. They would've been doing more like 50+ at that stage.

I dont know - there doesnt appear to be many riders immediately behind - and getting squeezed up does happen, you would have thought discretion was the better part of valour and he would have let him come across. If he had to back off and someone behind touched his wheel he might have still stayed upright - but to drag him right across in front, that is quite something.
