  • I see this, and I don't know why. Decent build.

  • Big fan of that!

  • New Pre Cursa vs Omnium. I thought I shouldn't even need to use the spacer, but even with, this is extremely tight. Any advice?

  • Embarrasing for Dolan :(

  • Show them, send it back to be crimped at their cost

  • This is a known problem with Omniums/PCs. People have experienced similar down the thread.
New colour frame looks great by the way, and I like the way that colour scheme is going. My Dolans are both satin grey, with the same silvery component choices.

  • I don't think you should be using any spacer on the DS anyway:

  • oh dear oh dear

  • Ouch, so without the spacer there is no way to fit it, and the problem here is the chainstay. I'll email Dolan.

  • The SRAM female chainring bolts are tall (more thread engagement/to compensate for being made from alu/so you can use that 6mm hex key to aid tightening), so assuming it's OK to use the BB spacers, you could probably get the clearance you need just by replacing the female ones with traditional steel ones. They'll be less tall so would be more likely to sit flush in the hole rather than protruding as pictured.

Are you putting your bargain disc & spoke on this bike? It's going to look class!

  • Remove spacers or you'll shaft the whole thing. Putting spacers won't let the bearings sit flush on the axle and will pull the DS axle through the bearing. Eventually It'll bind the whole thing or it'll chew away at the splines.
This looks like a Dolan issue really. New frames? The old one doesn't have this issue, at least not on mine.

  • Looks like they wanted to give bigger tyre clearance and they fucked up the crank clearance
Rode omnoms on mine w/o any issue

  • How much bigger exactly? Old one should clear 35's easy.

This one's on 38's on 23mm rims. Not ideal as it rubs the stays at high PSI, but fine at lower end of the spectrum.

  • Same angle on a 2011-ish Pre Cursa with SG75/111mm Campag Centaur BB/Zen 53t/SG75 bolts.
Spider clearance was very tight with a SG75 109mm BB (rubbed paint a little), so went for a longer one (which also improved chainline).

Chainstays on the new one certainly appear more curved/formed on @larsenroad frame.

  • One of the spider arms is different and leaves as little room as the female chainring bolts on the others, so changing bolts wouldn't solve it. And also, like @Chak says, spacers are a no go. It is the new frame yes, I'm awaiting a reply from Dolan.

Sucks that I'll need to wait with building it up. Think it's gonna be a fun bike. The bargain disc and spoke is definitely going on it. I've already rebuilt the tri-spoke to a front, just need to glue on a new tire. The disc is going to need some more work to redish and sort the chainline - but I think it's doable.

  • Oh, and if anyone has email details to someone that can help me at Dolan, please PM. The info address seems like it might take a while.

  • I don't know
Mine is from 2013 and now I'm using bombtrack cranks
The bigger tyre I fitted on there was 28c and rubbed seatstays bridge

  • that's with the wheel all the way in the dropouts right? If you pull it back, it should clear more

  • new frames look great

  • What do you think? Im disappointed.

    Hi Thomas,

It has come to our attention that the New gun metal frames have
slightly wider chain stays so this could be your issue.

We have tried these with a Sugino chain set and bottom bracket and
    they are fine.

Your options are as follows, Return your frame set for a full refund
and we will pay up to £30.00 shipping. Or keep your frame set and we
can offer you a £30.00 refund.

  • The chainset they've tried is probably a Messenger/RD2, so no problem there, due to it having a smaller bolt PCD.
I'd take the partial refund, and either modify the stay with a piece of wood, or return your crank (after all, how did you know it would foul on the frame?) and buy something different.

  • So it's likely anything with a 144BCD (most proper track cranks) would have the same problem?

  • Also, looking at the pics a bigger chainring might also have trouble which rules it out for fixed gear tt use (I know... Not it's intended purpose).

  • It's aluminium. Really wouldn't go ham at it with a piece of wood.

@TurtleRecall Omniums have notoriously fat spiders that have issues clearing a lot of frames. Not sure its strictly 144 specific.

  • Sounds like they're going to have a few complaints like this, given how popular the new colour seems to be, so (for the sake of you and every customer in the same situation) you could ask them to fit the other cranks they have in stock (SG75s/SG75DDs) to a gunmetal frame, and photograph in the same fashion as the photos above.
    (New Page Fail)

At least then you'll able to see if either will fit, and they can mail these images to other customers, so they too can make an informed decision.
If it's implied you might buy a crank from them, they might be more likely to do this.
