  • Sounds good, i'll have a look around and see if there's anything decent west.

    ...Heathrow?

  • The runway!

  • I was gonna suggest racing around the baggage claim like a pursuit race, dunno how I never thought of the runway =P

How about that road that we originally planned to do it on beside the O2?

  • The runway!

Wisley aerodrome, abandoned since WWII, runway is still there and is crossed by public footpaths, not the smoothest surface as it's concrete but far enough away from anywhere to have a BBQ, speakers etc.

Parking for a few cars nearby and easily rideable from Woking or West Byfleet stations, 30/40 mins from Waterloo.

  • ...and only 32 miles or so by bike from London.

  • ...and only 32 miles or so by bike from London.

How far from London is it by car, train, or on foot, then?

  • Giving this some more thought now, figuring that in a month or two's time the weather will be good enough for us to stand outside. If anyone has any more suggestions about locations for locations, I would be keen to hear from you. Also interested in hearing from people with access to a portable soundsystem.

  • Hillingdon Cycle Circuit would be awesome, though it might be too far for you East London folk.

The weather's already more than good enough for mmccarthy to stand outside.

  • This sounds like so much fun. Until I get beat.

  • This sounds like so much fun. Until I get beat.

You should start with a few extra clothes so that you have plenty to take off. Mick will start with virtually none and will be completely unaffected by any cold, but you might be able to score a few brownie points by at least appearing to make an effort before you freeze to the spot. ;)

    Sorry if I've missed something.

  • A Saturday night on that road running alongside the Serpentine.

  • This sounds like so much fun. Until I get beat.

    this is so true

  • The weather's already more than good enough for mmccarthy to stand outside.

In that case can we have it now? It might be the only chance I have to not get beat.

  • Weird. CrazyJames and I were just talking about this earlier! He thinks he knows of a spot behind his place in Bermondsey but it's fenced off. Possible offer of beer and donuts to security could swing it. Either someone collar him on here or I'll try to chase him up about it.

I definitely think It'd be good to go to a fresh spot and keep this moving around London. Looking forward to it already!

  • Finsbury Park?

  • In terms of location, would want somewhere where we aren't going to be asked to move on and where we can make a bit of noise without pissing off the residents too much (as its the latter who'll be calling the old bill)

  • Finsbury Park?

The "finish straight" is ideal and slightly uphill, park closes at dusk though with a parks plice car coming round to check everyone out and gates locked....

lots of dog-walkers etc, during opening hours.

  • what about Chester rd. NW1 or somewhere in the outer circle of Regents park?

  • There are some stretches of closed road up by the Lea Valley navigation close to the Edmonton junction of the North Circular. No residential neighbours and I am pretty sure you are ok to cycle there as it is part of the tow path cycle route.

We went along there on one of the forum rides, possibly the Easter Vintage Jersey ride. Might be a bit too far from central, and there may have been speed bumps - would need to check it out.

  • Gustav. I have had a brainwave over both the start/finish lines (masking tape) and a way of accurately measuring out 200m (50m of kite line). The last venue was not bad. It is difficult to think of somewhere empty, central and far enough away from habitation so as not to disturb anyone.

  • Central and uninhabited = da problem.

  • "It is difficult to think of somewhere empty, central and far enough away from habitation so as not to disturb anyone."

South London was my initial thought, and I live there!

There are some good empty, industrial-type areas just to the south of Bermondsey where the old train yards used to be.

    Somewhere round here:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=old+kent+road&sll=51.493141,-0.079436&sspn=0.007161,0.019119&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Old+Kent+Rd,+London+SE1,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.493635,-0.07905&spn=0.007161,0.019119&z=16
