Are OTPs approaching custom standards?

  • But seriously, handmade is far superior to OTP. I know it, as it is obvious. I just don't buy into HOW much more superior it is. Sorry.

  • For me, buying a built up bike from a shop just isn't any fun, regardless of quality.

  • But seriously, handmade is far superior to OTP. I know it, as it is obvious. I just don't buy into HOW much more superior it is. Sorry.

why can't an OTP be handmade?

why are you so obsessed with this non-subject?

  • why can't an OTP be handmade?

why are you so obsessed with this non-subject?

I know I would find it nigh on impossible to reply to a non-subject. But we're all different I suppose.

The larger, and more pertinent question, is why are some people obsessed with decrying me?

  • Are OTPs approaching custom standards?

They're not going to reach the standard of customisation by their definition.

    End of silly thread.

  • .......Silly thread.

Object said it with 1000 times more passion, intelligence and credibility.

Cretinous answer, to a silly thread.

  • Hey, don't take it personally. This one isn't a hit (unlike most of your good threads GA2G).

And I'll save my passion for a less silly thread.

  • I find miro_o passionate, intelligent and credible, mate.

  • So do I.

One answer doesn't define a person. Unless you think so; in which case I defer to you.

  • Sorry if definitions were established earlier in the thread but just to be clear when ppl say "custom" that includes a made to measure frame, right?

As in my arms are stupidly long so I want a frame with a 60cm t-t and 50cm s-t?

Or is it we have this extensive range of frame sizes and we choose the closest one and set up the remaining components to compensate?

  • I'm better off sticking closely to the opinions of the elitists, or it could all go wrong.

I was wrong. Handmade made-to-measure bikes are so much better than OTP's. I really don't know what I was thinking. Maybe I had been drinking or something. I am pleased to say that I have seen the light, and now agree with anyone that wishes to bully me on the subject.

I would also wish this that all other people that buy OTPs, please stop doing so. In fact, why would anyone even do such a thing? Surely they can't enjoy the ease of experience, or even the products. Madness. I have never been so wrong in all my life.

I shall book myself in for some psychiatry. There, I feel better already.

  • Err... cheers mate, but I just wanted to know what custom meant :(

  • The larger, and more pertinent question, is why are some people obsessed with decrying me?

Because your threads are so unbelievably annoying?

  • All of them nimby? Care to take a straw poll?

Anyway, I won't waste any time on you, as I'm sure nobody else can in real life.

You just seem bitter, sad and lonely. Take care.

  • Ha! something of an over-reaction there.

Sad, bitter and lonely i may be, but at least i have better things to fill my time than wondering if OTPs have reached custom standards yet, you nutter.

  • Yeah your lists are brilliant (and useful) but your posts read like a Jan Moir article.

  • @nimby

Isn't it strange, that the biggest muscle in the body is the gluteus maximus, and the most essential for all functions is the brain?

If you ever wished to intellectually joust with me, you'd lose. I guarantee it, and so could any casual observer. But, I'm sure your gluteus maximus is firmer than mine.

    1 - 1. A draw?

  • Joust?

    FFS do it.

  • Yeah your lists are brilliant (and useful) but your posts read like a Jan Moir article.

Really? If that's so, I'll have to do something about it. Seriously.

I don't mind (sometimes even enjoy) sticking to one side of an unpopular idea (fat is good), but I'd like to think I'm not predjudiced.......even if I did say something not very complimentary towards the hipster-wearing thin-is-in crowd.

Scott told me off about that, and I hadn't meant any harm. But my rationale said that a majority cannot be maligned by the minority. I'm still confused about the effect of that one.

But Jan Moir? Really? I'm surprised.

But thanks for recognising some contribution that I seem to make. Its laughable though when I get taken to task by some (not you) that make no contribution here except for criticism and ridicule.

But that is life isn't it?

  • @nimby

since you ask - no, not particularly.

If you ever wished to intellectually joust with me, you'd lose. I guarantee it, and so could any casual observer. But, I'm sure your gluteus maximus is firmer than mine.

I would never cross swords with a towering intellect such as yours. The latin words above already have me panicking!

  • The Class War. Elitists on one side of the room, staring imperiously at the poor misbeguided sods on the other side of the room.

    Barbour Jackets vs. Primark raincoats.
    Rapha vs. LIDLs cycling socks.
    Vanilla bikes vs. Giant Bowerys.

Me? I'm common, and proud to be a Primark/LIDL/Bowery fan.

Its not like I truly do not see the beauty of handmade.....as I'd love a pair of John Lobb boots.

    GA2G The Oscillator. That's me.

WTF? A class thing? WTF!!?! Grrr.

  • Oscillator. Get it? :)

EDIT: I actually love that tag from BDW.

  • WTF? A class thing? WTF!!?! Grrr.

Nah, it's just that some things are nice, but a bit pricey, and other things are not so nice, and less pricey.

  • I added comment to this thread because I feel that efforts by Kona, etc, are making made-to-measure harder to justify for SOME (but not all) people.

    No.

all they did is use expensive part* on a bicycle instead of cheap part and charge £1800 (Kona Grand Wagon for example)

*part that we'll eventually upgrade to.

  • And how is it a class thing?? some working class people are happily taking out a gigantic loan just so they can go and buy a BMW.
