tbf im not into the whole both feet off the bike jump towards the ball thing, ok great to watch but control?
Seemed like pointless show-boating/desperate move to me.

completely!
Its good to showboat/be desperate, sometimes.
I don't know, makes the game exciting to watch and appeal to more people which is a thumbs up in my book.

What about technique in sec 1:12?
-
• #31
yeah, was about to mention that one. is that sort of play legal?
-

i woulda chucked my mallet in his front wheel if i saw that coming.
in the words of BB - 'that aint polo'
-
• #33
it's charging against the other player, so for me, don't be a dick

Was that riding through the goal-tender?
I did that to MT on Sunday, but only cos I was totally sick of their bull-shit 'play'.

what kinda game does it have to be to resort to that?
dales mallet to mallet/ body to body technique.... thats kinda bike to bike.

It would take a pretty strong ref to call it, though. Some games escalate pretty quickly into that kind of thing.

Basically if you sit in goal be prepared to be taken out.
-
• #38
in league games, all the teams have a player sitting in goal
-
• #39
yeah it's bike to bike, but (excuse the american football term) i see it as unnecessary roughness.
not polo

yes big guy i've noticed that...hmm.

I agree, but like I said how do you call it? From a refs point of view, I mean. When I did that to MTs, I had the ball, and shot it, and it wasn't so much that I deliberately targetted the goal tender, as much as I refrained from avoiding him, IYSWIM. Harry was following up, and scored.

c'mon, don't came now saying that is no normal....

i think goalie-ing/defence is part of polo... making someone tap out/footdown is another question
-
• #45
Is that polo?
exactly! i think they are fair game, being stupidly defensive bringing the game to disrepute. -

I think if goal-tending is polo, then so is the counter-measure.

though tough, if you have someone at the court (as we do for league and tourney games) who is acknowledged as ref they should be able to call that, though what the penalty would be is another question.
hah, your little wording change there doesn't change the actuality, you knew you'd t-bone him ;)

But the Shoreditch video? We are ALL way better than that now. IMO. What does everybody else think?
totally agree, i think the standard of play has improved massively. I think it's down to playing regular competitive league games.
I think if goal-tending is polo, then so is the counter-measure.
Agreed, but i think the move in that vid over stepped the mark. Fair enough to swipe their mallet or give them a nudge but full on ride into them is not on. T-boning like that wouldn't be aloud anywhere else on the court so why in goal. Definetly comes under the 'don't be a dick rule'
that kinda thing is a last resort!
nice moves though.
