does anyone know if the guy selling these is still around ?
i have sent a couple of emails about these but didnt get a reply. He should be, only posted here a couple of days ago. Give it a couple of days, a lot of people here actually work full-time or are in full-time education and don't have time to check emails and PMs on a daily basis. He's a genuine guy and I went round to his to see the bags, they're amazing quality.

they look better than orliebs at least. They are made of the same material lorries use (tarpaulin?) to cover their goods and the same material Freitag bags are made with - extremely waterproof. Can't remember if there is a waist strap to be honest but why don't you check out the blog or the official website?

They do have a waist strap, it folds away out of sight when not in use.
I checked them out at the weekend. I know it's all subjective but I preferred them to the SAG AF1 bags shop14 got in. They are very high quality and big difference in price too.

i didn't mean about the bag, i meant that its on sale at the hip shop in soho.
also, quite how is the bag far superior ? does it hold stuff ? is it waterproof ? is it comfy ? mine is .. does yours shoot laser beams out of it at stupid motorists ? now that WOULD make it far superior .. does it have built in sat nav on the shoulder strap buckles .. miniaturised ? now that WOULD make it far superior .. if we are talking about construction .. or comfyness then its all subjective really isn't it.
I have read a lot about Scotts bags and no doubt they are bloody brilliant but you know, i cant accept that statement that its far superior just because of who made it and where its made ... i KNOW they are good bags .. Great even .. but the bag that i have is great .. FOR ME! it cost as much as i wanted to pay and does exactly what i want it to do .. take off your rose tinted hipster glasses and stop making comments like that just because you feel you have to!
shit .. see what i meant in my last post.. arrrrrrrrgh .. this is why i dont come on this forum ..

On the link for the vag blog, there is a photo of the messenger bag that looks like the top of the shoulder strap has some extra velcro on it - whats this for!?
-
• #63
it seems to work sort of like a compression strap for the roll top part

it's not just superior because of the fact it's made by a bloke living in the east end of London, but it's made by someone who's an ex-courier who know the best and worse part of a messenger bag, as well as recieving a lots of feedback from other courier who use his bag and constantly improving the design (remember, each bag is made only by him), rather than a factory batch of the same job that'd take at least a year before they can impended the new 'improved' design.
I find that the Grobag tick every single box, especially the flexibility of carrying different size and shape package, it's so well designed that carrying an entire bicycle on a 'middle range' Grobag for 11 miles is surprisingly comfortable.
Another aspect of the flexibility is that it's easy to adjust the bag exactly to fit you perfectly, my missus is quite small, 5'4 with a really skinny body whether I'm a burdy 6'1 bloke, the Grobag is flexible enough to fit her nicely as well as me.
Quite frankly, the Grobag is really cheap for what it is, I only mentioned it because my missus (Trip) originally wanted that VAGX now got a Grobag which is infinity better for carrying extensive amount of equipment around London.

I still like my Timbuk2.....

Scott_not_Scot is not the only ex-courier making courier bags, or high quality bags. I've seen Scott's work close up, and true, it is absolutely of the highest quality. What I fail to see, is why this needs further embellishment on a thread about VAGX bags. There is more than one thread about Archie's Grobags, and a Courier Bags thread also.
Good for Trip in creating this make-specific thread, and to our forumenger for importing them, and offering them for sale in this thread too.
For the record, my Timbuk2 serves me very well (and is now older than several forumengers on here), but I DO wish I owned a much better bag. A Bagaboo Workhorse Pro is better, as is even the Linnel's "Postie". But I like the VAGX (Roll-Top), and yet, even further up the evolutionary ladder are Grobags. Still considering that this thread would hopefully highlight people's positive (and negative) aspects of VAGX bags, maybe I have digressed too far.

Does anyone know how much TFG are selling the bags for? They got in touch a couple of weeks ago about buying up my stock before they placed an order but I had little web access at the time so missed the opportunity. They've already sold out though, hence not being on the site at the minute, and are asking again. I'm not too sure whether to clear out at the price or paid or hold out in the hope that their prices are a lot higher than mine and that one or two stumble across this thread.

^Will you still be making orders in the future? Im really loving the urban waistbag, its exactly the kind of thing Im looking for.

Has anyone got Alex's (aaspden) contact details?
The bag that I bought from him at the beginning of the year started to come away at the seams a at the end of Jan. He replied to my initial emal, but since then hasn't replied to anything for weeks.
The phone number I have just seems to go to voicemail; I wanted to make sure I had a correct phone number for him so I can try and sort out this out

Hmmm yeah, this has happened to mine too recently. Think i have about a week left before the strap goes completely. I also purchased the bag from Alex at the beginning of the year. Quite frankly very un-impressed with this product. another £90 quid wasted which is shocking cause they come across as being well made, sturdy bag etc :(
Just ordered a custom Levrier Greyhound to replace the useless VAGX :)

Don't they all. :]
The devil is in the details.
This is another thing that many people fail to realise when they complain about the price of custom or hand-made bags...It makes no difference how a bag looks on the outside, It's how well it's put together that matters most. Material quality, Thread type, stitch spacing, number of rows, quality of stitching, etc.
Unfortunately, you can't see any of that when you're buying a bag, but sometimes you have to question ALL the reasons why mass produced bags are cheaper...It's not really enough to just say 'because they're made in bulk'.Hopefully you'll get on better with your Levrier Sniffy. :]

Aye, true that Scott. Another (expensive) lesson learned :(
I would have gone with you my friend, but i read your winding down operations?
I had also seen that you had some good words to say about Dan/ Levrier hence my decision to go with them. Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes. :)

i just got mine yesterday shipped from aaspden, bought a rolltop bagpack. the bag is really nice, after one day of use i already love the zipper at the side of the bag so you can access your stuff really fast without opening the whole bag.
great stuff, but dont know if he got some left.
