  • That's about ten minutes walk from me!

If you're in the "Big I", then you should try the Fat Cat which also has a tap room: a short walk (although uphill) and their Scotch Eggs are awesome.

Prefer the vibe in the FC, which is more of a boozer, to the Dove which can be a bit "CAMRA".

  • Port street beer house manchester, go!

  • ^ this and it's cousin in the 'burbs, The Beagle.

  • Nice one! Just dive in, it will likely turn out great.
My advice fwiw, brew something lower gravity to start with. Less tricky variables, no need to mess about with invert sugar and a huge hop bill, until you get to know your kit and get it dialled in.
I have found the homebrew forum to be really helpful too
Let us know how you get on!

    Will do!
Had 7.437kg of Maris Otter Malt delivered today along with over 300g of Citra and Amarillo hops (they were the last of his 2012 stash of Citra but not quite enough for the full hop schedule). Will use the Amarillo earlier on (first wort hopping) and earlier in the schedule then add the Citra later for bittering and dry hopping. Have been watching so many youtube videos about mashing and sparging that I think I've become properly obsessed....
Like school/uni experiments all over again.

  • cheers ss, rhb and jimm, added to list of ale houses to sample on my wanderings

  • Finally got to Port street a few weeks ago, it was very nice.

  • These two are great!

  • I do like the flyer

My untappd app tells me I've had 199 distinct beers since I started using it, will need to round that up tonight. Got a few random belgium beers that need a sampling

  • Do you have to be in a pub to use untappd? Looks kinda like what I do manually, ie. get pished photograhing the bottle in case it's great and I forget what it was.

  • ^ No. It's based on the 4square app.

Lovely looking kit. When is brewday?

  • ^ No. It's based on the 4square app.

I think I used that once or twice a few years ago.

Anyway I'll see what it does.

I find the flavours of some of those Badger beers a bit strong and false. There's a Peach one that was a bit sickly, although that could just be me. I really rate their Fursty Ferret and Hopping Hare

  • Haven't tried the other one, but I agree, the flyer was too sickly. Had a good pint of treehugger in spoons with their current beer festival.

  • ^^I think I know already but what do you mean by false?

Sorry, probably a bad choice of words, more like it was an afterthought. But that was only my taste/opinion. Everyone has different tastes, literally. I can't stand ANY wine, for example.

Out of the many beer apps I've tried Untappd is the easiest and best so far.

  • If you do like it then 'friend' me on it. You can share beer recommendations.

    Gotcha!

  • Only just got around to opening this

Jesus H Christ it's a bit strong. 650ml bottle, I don't recall it being particularly expensive. I also didn't recall reading the ABV.
10.2%, and I'm definitely feeling it.

  • I spotted a Fullers old stout or something similar in my local offie that I baulked at the ABV. It was similar. I expect that from Belgian brews but not local stuff. Need to find it. Those boxed Fullers bottles are expensive though.

  • Anyone know where they sell Harviestouns Schiehallion in london famous london?

  • Nope. But http://harviestoun.com/ might.

  • It seems Old Red Cow does. Good pub that.

    http://theoldredcow.com/

  • Forgot to say, selling bottles to take home. I know a few pubs that has it, and I know that they deliver, but I can justify a whole case at the moment
