  • The other day I was without my bike, in Crofton Park, and noticed a place called Mr.Lawrence. Its a wine retailer on one side, and a winebar next door.

The beer list is what impressed me. Excuse the length of it, but here it is below.

    ALES
    Durham
    Temptation
    Benedictus
    Bede's Chalice

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Goose Island
    IPA
    Honker's Ale

    Goose Island??

wow. Thats smaller brewery in Chicago. I'm truly surprised it's made it's way to London. Honkers Ale is great, but not THAT good.

Really surprised they aren't carrying Great Lakes Brewing Co after seeing that. GLBC is really one of the finer mid sized breweries in the country.

  • @henners - you talking about this otter brewery?

If so my friend lives in the village over and I sampled the delights when I went to his over the summer. It is good stuff I must admit.

  • Anyone brewing their own? I've been thinking about it for a while, gonna read up on it over christmas i think and get started early next year

Just found this, seems good: http://www.howtobrew.com/

My girlfriend bought me one of these starter kits for my birthday:

My first pint looked like this and was a beauty. I'm onto my third batch now. Very easy, just followed the instructions.

So how did it taste? ;P

  • OTTER ALE IS the GOD of all Beers.
I will be bringing some back after Xmas, if anyone wants anything let me know and i can do a proper order.
    My folk's house is there.

Xmas day cycling in the Blackdown Hills.
    epic.

Hmmm Love Otter Ale, your parents must be down near where my parents are - Honiton way?

Otter ale is lovely as is Otter Claus oh and Otter Bright

  • Who wants to be a millionaire asked "Lambic is a Belgian variety of which drink?" Ha.. wish I got the £64k

  • I was very impressed by the two ales that are served at SE Drinks: the Roebuck, I think one was called UBU and the other one was called Wild Goose, although I'm not sure if either of those names are correct. I do remember that they tasted fairly similar except UBU was a little lighter and hoppier than the Goose.

  • I quite like Yuletide myself and Tally Ho is pretty awesome too.. I'm originally from Suffolk so was doing some pining by posting that in here. I'll be back for the festive period though so can sample the delights.

    Which pub did you manage?

As for organising a ride there, how about sorting something for after the Dunwich Dynamo next summer?

It was the Jolly Sailor in Orford.

That's definitely a plan. The Dunwich Dynamo is the last week of July this year? I'll ride down, then ride back with you guys. Can hit up the brewery/some good pubs at this end. £2.80/pint of Adnams bitter here.

  • UBU is fucked.. it was on at Wests venture to the Distillers Arms in Hammershit. Fucking hangover material foh shizzle.

  • i'd hand that back to the barman and make him top it up

short measures the work of the devil

this belgian brew is a stunner

their normal gueze is also very nice indeed

I did and I do, constantly. Just finishing off the last of my Porter Style Norfolk Nog. Beautiful, a bit stout-like, with massive black treacle taste, and very bitter.

  • +1

Constantly hand pints back too, my sensitive palate is oft offended by an over ripe bitter

  • greatest beer on earth, period:
    http://www.greatlakesbrewing.com/beerProfile.php?beer_id=00000001

That is a lager. It cannot be a great beer.

  • I dunno BlueQuinn, I like a freezing cold lager on a boiling hot day. Too me, its perfect.
The rest of the times, I do like something more characterful.

    EDIT:
    GrandeAnse + Carib, or
    Mackesons xxx + Trini Carnival

  • Hmm, I love Kriek. I'm off to Brussels next week, I assume it should be available there. Where do you get it from over here?

http://www.vaudree-concept.be/partenariats/antre_du_vaudree/antre_du_vaudree.html that i think is the shop, opposite across the street was the bar / restaurant

wonderful place it took me a whole evening just to read through the beer menu

  • I've recently had delivery of Tactical Nuclear Penguin the 32% I'm looking forward to trying it, although I suspect it'll be rank

    http://www.brewdog.com/product.php?id=46

  • smarties bar in southport used to do a danish beer about 23% or something .. it was like condensed beer thick gloopy and the taste was concentrated too
ended up mixing 50/50 with skol super to water it down a bit !

  • This has recently become a favourite of mine....

I also bought some, tonight from ASDA, as its one of the few my lady might drink. Of course if she snubs it, more for me. Win! ;)

Tonight I'm necking TRIBUTE ale. Very, very, very nice indeed. Smooth, and as it says on the bottle..."moreish". Its true.

  • had a pint of this last week pub between parliament square and trafalgar
    very nice pint of brains

  • Good monday night choice GA2G

I went up to my homeland of West Yorkshire on the weekend, had a nice pint of Tim Taylor Best Bitter with Lunch in Black Bull. Otley, then later five splendid pints of Black Sheep in The Malt Shovel, Boroughbridge. Excellent, highly quaffable session bitters, the like of which are thin on the ground here in LFL.
