God this is tempting, but having only introduced meself this week I fear it might be too much, too soon. Until I manage one more post I'm still in the bloody nursery!

Don't worry about it, come along, you can just sit out the ritual bumming by moonlight.

was thinking:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Cycle/7/Cateye_EL320_Front_Light/5360025761/
??
I've just moved out of London and have been experimenting with cycling to the station. I can quite safely state that the EL320 is pretty rubbish for country lanes. I'm on the lookout for something more substantial. There's an ex-demo Enduro Maxxx on wiggle at the moment, still £190 though! May be a worthwhile investment as I'm determined to do Dunwich this year.
Can't make this ride - gutted!

Err, I think that might be what I meant by too much too soon. Still, it's reassuring to know the moonlit bumming is optional.
Anyhow I reckon I'm gonna sit this one out. I should make it to beers regularly enough, and hopefully sign meself up for longer rides later in the year.

I've pulled a muscle and currently cannot even walk without groaning. I'll rest tomorrow and Saturday, but may not be better in time. Will update Sat pm.

Bit of a pre-ride scare here (honestly, if there's a big guy upstairs, he really does not want me in Brighton).
Got myself a new rear wheel as I stripped the threads on the old one, went to fit it tonight, realised i'd forgotten the spacers, went to the box to get the spacers, looking in the box, looking, still looking, nope, it's just an empty bloody box! The description actually said:
"The hub features easily serviced ball bearings and a nutted axle which can be respaced with the nuts included from 110mm to 120mm to 130mm"
Really not a happy bunny, anyone point me in the direction of a place where I can definitely pick these up tomorrow?

don't think I'll be doing this now, not been feeling good these last few days and already missed out on a ride with jonny this week. Not sure a longish night ride followed by an all-nighter will be the wisest move to getting back to square one. apologies all, have a good ride.

• #265
Quick question, instead of using proper spacers for the rear hub, a collection of standard washers will work just as well right?
-
• #266
Go to halfords tomorrow and talk bikes for a bit to the guys upstairs, they are sound and will probably sort you out with some spacers for little or no money.
-
• #267
It's really hit and miss in there, some are cool, some are complete numpties that aren't sure what shape a wheel is, was thinking of just going to Wickes next door to it anyways, but I may as well give halfrauds a shot, thanks ^_^

Guys I got were pretty safe, let me go through the box of bits for some cable ends. And to be fair to them last time you were in there didn't you ask for a lockring spanner? It's hardly a common tool in the world of bicycles.
-
• #269
Yeah i'd expected them not really to know about those, it was just the "uh, we sell spanners downstairs though" comment that put me off ><
But yeah i'm sure most of them are cool guys, i'd be a nice guy if I had their job too =P
-
• #270
whats the plan? what time and where about does it start? when are we going back and how?
-
• #271
10pm tomorrow at Hyde Park Corner, under Wellington Arch
Think the general idea is we'll be there for around 4/5 or so, some are getting the train back, some are cycling.

Hope you find your bike bits, Michael. Why not ask in one of the tech threads, as well?
Yes, we'll start at 10 tonight. See you all there!

ooh and some bullhorns, which'll fit a narrow clamp stem, and a brake.....
Got some chopped and flopped drops, a rear brake which could be used and a lever (one for the drops).
If you've found a light#?
edit - just remembered I've got a choice between Shimaono 105 front or tektro long reach back brakes.. choices choices
As I've recovered from the lurgy, it would be cool to meet some people, so i'll put my name down.
Night ride:
10.thecrane
And I need (?) an excuse to put my new light to the test:
one of these http://www.bicycleworkshop.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b3s133p248
attached to one of these http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=17728&catID=972
Will that help? I just need to get someone to build the hub into a wheel...
