I look at one of my bikes more than I ride it =/
-
• #878
I have a nice track bike I hardly ever get to ride too.
I think maybe the more you ride things the less you care about what you thought looked good, and the more you care about how it feels and goes.
But yes Force!

Because sitting and looking at your bike matters?
:-/
Well yes. It's nice to be able to lean it up against the wall of a local coffee shop after 80 miles in torrential rain and gale force winds and think "My bike looks really nice". Of course the second part is setting it up so it's fun to ride so you can then think "I enjoyed that ride, the bike fits me perfectly and looks really cool, there's nothing I would change about it."

^Caveat: Henry has never been able to say either of those things about any bike he's ever owned.
nor has he ever ridden 80 miles in torrential rain and wind.
But his point is still valid. -

Sora or Xenon. Anything else is marketing bullshit.
-
• #883
Brilliant.
Sumo you have a point. After a tough ride and with a bike covered in road juice I'm going to be in love with the groupset that still works quickly, won't require an evening servicing or replacing worn parts.
-
• #884
Sora or Xenon. Anything else is too expensive to replace worn parts.
-
• #885
That's alfine then

Sora or Xenon. Anything else is marketing bullshit.
Not brilliant.
Shimano seem to have engineered sora to be shit. A different kind of Reverse Engineering?
-
• #887
Armstrong won his first TdF on a Dura-Ace groupset whose technology has trickled down so far, it's now only equivalent to current day Sora. That's indisputable.

I'm riding a road bike, not ploughing a field.
I think 10 sp chains and cassettes are going to get cheaper pretty soon. In fact you can already get them for £20 a pop.

It make sense to do so, otherwise there'll be little reason to upgrade.
Campagnolo been doing that already with their lower end groupset (one click per shift instead of three).
I think the Sora groupset is perfectly fine, just the shifter itself is awful to use, if it were this DA 8spd one, I'll be happy as larry and have no reason to change it;

Ed is right - sora shifters are horrible. Not for shifting so much (although the thumb shifter is pretty shit)- but for braking they hurt my hands a lot

But his point is still valid.I was expecting that reply. Have you seen my wheels? I'm not going out in gale force winds.
also, hate you guys.

Just look at the weather and a map, head out into the wind and back with a tailwind innit?

Is this really the truth?

Of course, e.g.
(current) Tiagra shifter;
(old) Ultegra shifter;

dunno what the whole "I won't ride my 50mm wheels in the wind" thing is about. I do it, it's fine. htfu etc.. ;)

Just means you're fat.

Is this really the truth?
It's indisputable; much like Armstrong's innocence.

I know they look the same Ed but is it the same in terms of weight? Reliabililty?
Because sitting and looking at your bike matters?
