I thought they were going 11 speed. Like Campagnolo, but far more reliable...
....and ugly.

• #503
Will they do 105 Di2 or is that going to be delayed another year so not to cannibalise Ultegra Di2 sales?
-
• #504
Be interesting to see. DA 9000 has been seen in testing, and two years after the original Di2 they'll hit the upgrade cycle with DA 9000.
Mind you, what sort of price point would they hit with 105 Di2? If it was a £500 groupset that'd be hugely tempting.
-
• #505
They may bring a surprise and have 105 Di2, couldn't see it myself for another year or so yet though.
I'd be sold on it!
-
• #506
Is there any benefit to bringing out a 105 Di2?
RRP:
Ultegra Di2 = £1,700
Ultegra = £1k
105 = £550So it's hard to see where you'd price it... unless ultimately +105 will all be electric. Or i guess if it was around the £1,400 mark then people would still go for Ultegra.
Also out of curiousity, I'd guess most groupset sales are to shops on OTPs, but when you get to above the 105 level does it switch to people buying the groupsets?
-
• #507
out of curiosity do UDi2 parts work with Di2 parts?
as in UDi controller and Di actuators, or (proposed) 105Di controller and UDi/Di actuators
-
• #508
Nope, Dura Ace Di2 is simple signalling, Ultegra Di2 is [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus"]CANbus[/ame]
105 would undoubtedly be CANbus also, and DA 9000 Di2.
So, if you are interested in "hacking" your groupset, DA Di2 is the one to get- custom battery packs etc.
-
• #509
interesting, there's several can-bus developer tools so it wouldn't be hard for an automotive software engineer to tweak the 5 nodes (7 if they go to braking too); probably simpler than the bespoke? DADi2 protocol
-
• #510
There's been some nice custom installs of Di2 which have had full sequential up/down shifting from gear 1-20 using a rocker switch and with a long hold to dump gears quickly.
This is the kind of thing electronic shifting will be good for allowing different control mnechanisms instead of just replicating manual levers.

Does anyone know if SRAM have plans to release a new Force group?
Looks like I'm going to have to live with Campag for a while longer due to money constraints (woe is me, I only have 10spd Record #FWP) - though it might not be such a bad thing if I can pick up some cheaper (older) Red, Force or Ultegra stuff on the cheap slowly.

Nice reviews those.
One thing I always find slightly odd though- people go on and on and on about Campag looking good- is this like the Emperors new clothes, are they deliberatly ignoring how fucking hideous Campag Ergo units are?
They look like the casting tool used to make flesh lights.

One thing I always find slightly odd though- people go on and on and on about Campag looking good...
Campag historically have made and decorated parts less badly than the other two. But really it's a bit silly that the 'looks' are a thing on road bikes. Who really cares except LFGSS and some MAMILs in the LBS. Most people see a cyclist... on a bike... whizzzing past... dressed like a twat.
Most current plastic performance rockets look a bit goofy. And so they should. They'll still be future classics once they've earned some prestige being ridden and crashed by winning teams.

The curvy camapgnolo hoods are teh sex.
Went out on the BeeMC last night, as the roads were almost ice free. It is not ultremo season yet though, and it is bastard dark everywhere (hurricane Dagmar ate our street lights). It was a sketchy ride. I was very grateful for the safe braking from the hoods, and great grip they offer. Also the fact that no matter how I move my hands around the bars, trying to get out of the freezing wind. I can alway reach the gears without thought. The positive click of every gear is sublime.
I love my super record.
Thats all.

Did your labrador have any trouble running ahead of you with no street lights?

Er..Did you read what he/they chose as the winning groupset?

It's the term I find annoying. That Campagolo themselves have used it doesn't make it any better.

Campag ergolevers are the best looking and best designed of any of the big 3 imho..
