Cool, thanks, yeah I'm running the 9 speed on the Hope hubs at the moment, meant that they don't go up to 11 :)

Actually misread your post, some Hope hubs can be used with a 11 speed freehubs body.
However I'd go for Tiagra, cheaper to run overall too and can go up to 11-34.

Those running 1x 10 with shimano - did you tighten the RD tension? Apparently shimano mechs come on a 'relaxed' setting and can be updated to a higher tension?
Anyone using a medium RD rather than short?

• #4705
Define which mechs, are you talking MTB or road?

Im using the new 4700, and honestly I think it is much better then the 6700 I had on my previous bike (a BMC size 51 with internal cable routes, so that could interfere with the shifting quality).

Yes medium. I am always very tense so left the derailleur relaxed.

I am building a tourer on a Genesis tour de fer frameset. My first plan was 105 5800. But i i have problems finding a rear 11 speed disc hub for decent money. Hope and Phil are pricey for me.
Should i go down to 10 speed and use a XT rear hub? or should i run 11speed and use maybe a novatec hub. -

novatec

Are the road disc hubs good? I only have bad experince from their trackhubs. Is touring on a 32h wheel a bad Idea?

I've got them on my winter bike and 2 seasons in they still working/performing well. I did need to take the freewheel apart fairly early on in its life to regrease it. Whatever was in there from the factory didn't seem up to job. Since then haven't had any worries.

Nice snippet from the Red Kite Prayer blog; rumours are that rim brakes on Shimano and SRAM top end groups are likely to be phased out from 2017 when discs become amateur race legal.

The best way to move forward quickly is to stop supporting inferior technology.
I look forward to the future.

with this coming disk revolution, is it worth me getting 6800 for racing on this year, or should I scrap my new race bike aspiration until next year when disks are legal to race on?

Lucky DA rim brakes last forever.

Tiagra 4700 £210 at Ribble this weekend.

I doubt they'll nuke rim brakes within a year of discs being road legal...

Code BF10 for an extra 10 percent off, too.
-
• #4723
Not on groupsets or bikes though which seems to be their usual policy.
-
• #4724
Nah, they'll likely to stop developing them, I reckon the latest (5800/6800/etc.) design is the last.
It'll be a slow roll out starting at DA/Ultegra but rims brakes definitely still stay on the lower tier groupsets.

stop developing is very different to stopping providing or rebadging for various groupsets.
I think they've got a good few years yet.
You can run the 9 speed on the 10 speed wheels.
and yes there's a trim feature.
