  • Does anyone have any experience of going 1x10 with shimano 105? Thinking of bastardising my cross setup

  • Why not? the only annoyance is the loose paddle on the left shifter.

  • The left Paddle will not rattle unless you push it.
More troublesome should be there are no way to use lockable rear mech. I'm not racing, but the chain drop very easy.
Although maybe using narrow wide chainring will reduce the possibility chain drop.

  • Yes, using an Absolute Black wide narrow chainring. Works like a charm, have yet to drop the chain.

  • Running 1x11 105 with a superstar components narrow wide chainring in my cross bike, likewise not had any chain drops.

  • ^ This for 1x9 105

  • On a related note, has anyone removed the shifter assembly from a left shimano lever? Possible? Or is there a left hand brake lever with the same shape hood as 5800 105?

  • As with Danb, I'm also using the superstar narrow wide but with 1 x 10 105. No chain drops, snappy shifting.

  • Another +1 for running a narrow wide chainring up front. I also adjusted the rear mech p-tension spring to help with the chain slap (doesn't erradicate it), seems to be doing alright. Went with the Raceface N/W ring.

  • Stupid question but on a 110bcd chainset does the narrow/wide go outer or inner?

  • I just got some Sugino track chainring bolts.

  • From Condor.

  • Sugino from condor is an answer otherwise get the ones that absolute black are selling that are SS specific.

  • Pls to tell how chainring bolts are SS specific?

  • they are shorter as they don't go through as many rings.

  • yeah, I ordered Rotor with mine (Rotor 3D cranks absolute black chainring) and they didnt work .. too tall

  • Don't think it matters. Mine's on the outer tabs fwiw.

  • @root and @amey

I wouldn't have called them SS specific. Just single chainring bolts.

  • I is being a massive prick.

  • tow-may-tow .. tow-mah-tow

  • I just picked up an Sram X1 gearset on the cheap. Was a taken off a bike thats done 50km on the road only. Mech, shifter, and cassette. Roughly £200.

    Its for my AMMB (all-mountain-mamil-chariot).

    I need a crankset. 165mm arms, 34 tooth single ring, 30mm axle (for a PF92 frame).

Options? I really like the spiderless design but most of these out out of Budget.

  • Whichever position that allow the chainring to sit near the middle of the cassette.

  • I have a triple functioning as a 1X. I run the chain ring in the outer position for tyre clearance. It's fine.

  • I'm considering moving on from my 9 speed Sora group, but my wheels are 10 speed only (Hope Pro 3), ruling out the obvious jump to 5800.

Better to collect a mixed group of used 6700 and 5700 or buy all-new Tiagra 4700 (can be had for about £220)? This is to hang on a winter bike.

  • Also does anyone know if Tiagra allows you to trim the FD from the brake lever a la 5800? That is one of my fav features...
