They did say that they were working on that when I spoke to them last.
105 is cheap though- I paid £25 for mine and it's dealing with 11-32 admirably.

But you saying "get 105" makes the Campag gear aspirational, as your friend will think "ah, he's saying that, but Campag has to be better- just look at the price".
I'm going to become the UK distributor for Retroshift and campaign for the revival of thumb shifters.

The last person was my brother in-law, last weekend. All hung up in the 'aspirational' side of road cycling. But with only 1000 notes to spend.
He was looking at an old well used mid level pinarello with 10 speed campag. It ticked all the boxes for him.
I found a new 105 equiped carbon Kona (deda frame'n'forks). Which I reckoned would be lighter, stiffer, have better functioning componentry, and have the bonus of warranty.
At the end of the day. If the classic itaslian-ness of the Pinar would make him happier, and ride more. It could'nt be the wrong chioce.
Fact is its not really possible to recommend stuff based on what the heart says, only the head.

I want to run a rear mech with a roller clutch on it though. SRAM is the only option there.

105 all the way. My rear derailleur has now done 10.000 miles and I bought the bike second hand with probably the same on the clock. It has been wobbly since 5.000 miles, but can not bring myself to change with replacement I already bought. This is 9 speed.

Dammit. Did you just say a 105 rear derailleur will run a 32 cog sprocket? Or just that your running a 11-32 cassette on a Sram Wifli derailleur.

so i have a triple on the front on my cervelo (i know, kill me). i really do want to change out the crankset but i cant go to a triple without getting new levers and mech can i? ultegra from '09 btw.
I ran a triple ultegra shifter with a double mech and chainset for years without a problem, if that helps...?

I'm running an 11-32 SRAM XX cassette with a short cage 105 rear mech.

As Rod says, you might be able to get it to work, depends on being able set the limit of the front derailleur correctly maybe. But 6600 does have separate specific FD and STIs for the triple chainset. Try Merlin or Total Cycling for 6600 parts.

The key information being with a single ring up front.

That's good too know. Wanted to give my dad a few more gears for when out in the Alps, thought I'd have to buy a wifli derailleur. But a 105 one is much cheaper. Might get myself one, would be good for a 30t sprocket for steeper things with a 39t upfront.
Which year or serial is it. Or will they all work?

Front setup wouldn't make a difference. No?
-
• #1566
It affects the derailure capacity required.
I.e difference between small small and big big is greater than difference between 11-32

You need to tuck it all underneath.

I always find tilting your hips backwards helps.

For MTBs at least
Single = short cage
Double = medium cage
Triple = long cagePart of the move towards less chain rings is the improvement given by using a shorter cage. I have a short cage X0 mech with a 11-36 cassette. Works absolutely flawlessly.

Oswald sent me an article a while ago about using a standard Di2 mech with a big cassette- I think they used a slightly longer mech hanger, but otherwise it was stock.
I'll see if I can find it.
-
• #1571
If im using sram rival levers and a compact crankset whats the cheapest way to get a 12-32 compatible rear mech? The wifli mechs are pretty expensive

Filled the gap nicely in terms of ergonomics when Shimano utterly dropped the ball on 7900, 6700 and 5700.
Subjective. I prefer 6700 over all the previous generations.

I totally maintain that when Campag is set up right, it's by far the best. But there are SO MANY REASONS not to have it that it becomes a bit of a pointless argument.
Wash your mouth out.

• #1574
rogan, you want a 34-32 gear?
-
• #1575
I've taken to the ' cupping the hoods' faux TT position. With campag i can still shift down the cassette as I gain speed. I loves me thumb paddles.
I do that with my Shimano.
