i bookmarked your blog under "geekery".

According to the rules on the EHBPC site metal heads are not allowed, would this desing be ok as it has plastic ends?

  • I'm still dubious of drilling the shaft in that grey abs.
I think it adds weakness without taking away a lot of weight.

Caps is a good idea though. I might drill a line of holes round the rim and a few in the end of the cap...

I doubt that would be legal. If one of the plastic caps came off during play, you'd effectively have a blade at the end of your mallet.

  • It's definitely not legal under our rules.
Gabes, cheers for the email dude.

Can I grab the ABS off you tomorrow night?

  • looks awesome gabes, nice one

  • em, I'll bring the ABS back from the studio today, so I'll deliver to Mitch tomorrow night.

The first rule on the EHBPC rules is that the head ref will have final say about mallet safety. I would say it depends on the weight of that mallet head and how secure the ends are. If they're only screwed on like it looks, then no, at least one cap could easily unscrew while travelling with the ball shuffle style.
The second rule should say 'should not...' not 'can not'. We'll change that soon enough.

I think I agree about drilling the gray abs. Although drilling through the white caps and the ABS at the same time shouldn't do any harm, if your drill bit is dull like mine it ends up melting so effectively bonding the two peices together.

  • You're a gem. Cheers dude.

  • How's your face today Mike?

  • A bit puffy. 5 stitches.

  • Shit. Sorry dude.

  • What happen?

  • Mallet to cheek.

  • Fuck, I honestly didn't think they'd stitch it.

  • Heal up quick dude.

You may be right, I guess we'll see how this one stands the test of time, as with every mallet, it's a prototype.

I'll help you test it with another joust if you like?
