  • Any of you guys use Strava? I'll scoop a search for a thread immediately after posting this but as we're entering rainy season now I suspect most of my riding will be commuting rather than 'proper' rides - so there'll be plenty running. Would be cool to link with some forum people up on there.

  • yep. i see there's a LFGSS club but its just for riding. time for a running one too?

  • I'd join it to keep me motivated. Two people make a club right?

  • Zip isn't zipping so well on my camel back 25l pops open easily, thinking omm adventure light 20l to replace. Any others I should consider? Might have asked a while back, apols.

  • you could be landing to far in front, which could be due to a number of things, like tight hip flexors from sitting and cycling.

  • The club admin can add running as an activity

  • @knightlancer would be so proud

  • Does anyone have a Garmin QR watch strap for 310/910 etc?

This new variety is considerably superior to this old version, however the type is unimportant to me since I plan to butcher it and then use it to make a GPS mount for my dog/training partner's collar.

  • Running backpacks. Sub £40. ~10L capacity. Any recommendations?

  • I've got one of these which I thought was c. £40 and I think has been great for me.

It's called the Raidlight Olmo 5, however a quick google suggests that they have updated it to make it a bit fancier and more expensive. Still, it's what I've used for my ultras. I like the look of the Salomons but I've not used and a bit pricey.

  • Anyone else run Maidenhead Half today?

  • I did! At 1:45 I was a minute slower than my last half, but I was running with a friend for the first 7 miles who was targeting 1:50 so I was running a little slower than I would have been if I was on my own. After the 7 mile marker I sped up a little and ran the rest at my own pace.

Seemed quite a nice course, lots of cyclists out along the route as well as kids giving out sweets. Highlights for me were the 4-in-a-row high five I gave to a group of children, and overtaking a lot of people who had gone past us in the first 7 miles.

I feel a million times better than after the last half I ran which made me pretty useless for a couple of days, so that's a good sign for general running fitness gains. Legs are a bit stiff but I'll have a little jog later and do some stretching which should help.

The winner got around the course in 1:07:35, which is ridiculously fast!

  • Good time (again) Andy. A negative split is always nice, especially in longer races.

Only a short fairly-flat 5mile race for me yesterday, but I'd never raced that distance before, so obligatory (slow) PB! - 35:17

  • I've got one of these:

£30. It adjusts nicely and fits snugly...some of the straps and buckles feel a bit cheap, and the included bladder split on its second outing. But still recommended, for the price alone!

  • Does anyone know a good alternative to the New Balance 730? They don't seem to be sold anymore.

  • Thanks @ewanmac & @sifriday
As I have a Sweatshop 2 mins away from my work and I wanted to use it tomorrow morning, I went for this one in the end:

Feels well made, buckles feel secure and I like the fact that the chest-strap is adjustable in height (moob comfort)

  • Off to Copenhagen this coming weekend for the CPH Half-Marathon. really looking forward to it even if my training's not been too great.

Am still struggling to get back into the mindset I had whilst training for the London Marathon last year as I think I'm a bit burnt out of distance training and lots of long runs.

when I get back from CPH I'm going to focus on an 8-week sub 45min 10km plan for the Greenwich MoRunning 10km at end of November, would like to get under 45min comfortably if I can so will be focusing more on my speedwork than going much over 10 miles in any run. I've started going to mile end track on thursdays and I've just realised tooting bec track is easily accessible for me as well (no more industrial estate boredom fests)

if I can set a decent 10km time I'll then parlay that into my Paris Half-Marathon training for next April which starts 2 weeks after Greenwich and hopefully will be able to train towards a sub 3:30 goal (even if that's not what I achieve on the day).

  • @Arducius good effort fella.

  • Congrats! Thought the course was good, the start was a bit frustrating. Got stuck at the 2:00 pace section and spent the first mile or two desperately trying to move up. Support on the course was fantastic.

  • After many months in which I'd run only up to five KM, and only a few times, I stupidly did the GNR. Ran with some first-time friends, had a good laugh, then kicked a bit in final mile. Sore now but it was great fun.

I've got Royal Parks next month so will need to put in a few more double-digit distances before then. Anyone else doing it?

  • Yeah they could have done with staggering the start or giving people different colour race numbers to divide up the start. I had to walk a couple of bits in the first mile too, once where the road just narrowed a bit and then going through the underpass. I think the first mile took us over 10 mins.

The first water station couldn't keep up with the numbers either, cups were being taken as soon as they were filled. It was a lot better at the later stations when everyone was more spread out.

But overall it was very good, nice to have support pretty much all the way around and the marshals were all shouting encouragement too.

  • Thoughts on Mo's win? Looked like Kigen was holding back?

  • I think they should have the start on a much wider road just to get the numbers in. I think I got to the water stations before they got too overwhelmed and I didn't drink at the first couple anyway.

Good race though, I'm sure I'll be back next year.

Need to rapidly increase distance for the marathon now.

  • Best running shops these days in London? Google just gives the usual suspects and old anecdotes whilst I know the good staff move around a fair amount.

Feel like there's something better out there than "just another" Sweatshop selling things mostly on the colour scheme. An Evans/CycleSurgery vs. Bespoke kinda thing..

  • Sounds like tiredness, don't worry it will abate soon, unless you continue to train and push yourself, in which case it's unlikely to ever stop..
