LFGSS MD!
My knees hurt a lot when doing any other type of activity (including fuck all)....EXCEPT running and for the next couple of hours after. First started hurting when I experimented with saddle height (only 2 days of commuting). Now running is the only time the don't hurt.

19.34 at parkrun today. Getting close to my PB again. Targeting sub 19 minute.

Anyone else run the Severn Bridge half this morning?
I went off far too fast (first 3 miles were a big 5k PR, the stupidity) which I thought I'd stopped doing, and faded big time. Still good fun though, and you get to run on a closed motorway bridge. Would recommend.

I ran the Severn Bridge Half as well 5awr :) felt really weird walking over the bridge but I thought it was a great course.
I've got a terrible habit of going off too fast in races but nailed it yesterday even if I do say so myself :D
I've got pb's of 5k 19:36, 10k 39:58 and my previous best 1/2 was 1:29:49 so when I got to 10k in 40:20 I thought I was going to blow up big time :D
But I felt great all the way and finished in 1:27:13, should have gone quicker but when I was running 6:12 m/miles at mile 8 and 9 I started panicking and slowed myself down :D
Really hope it becomes a permanent feature as I thought it was a great race :)

Ah you can't have been far behind me! I finished in 1:25:25, so you could probably see me crawling over the bridge on that long downhill stretch haha.
Two and a half minutes off your PB is big, congrats!
Really well organised, hope it carries on in future, great event.

Cracking time, what were you hoping for if that was you fading badly ?I'm hoping to get near 1:25 in Cardiff and then it's my favourite race of the year Snowdon Marathon :) don't know if I'll be able to but I'm going all out for sub 3:15 at Snowdon, so it will either be 3:14 something or 3:40 something :D

erggh, I seem to have reached a point where i am not enjoying exercise at all, i've forced myself to get into running kit, but the driving rain stopped me as i was putting my shoes on.
Currently now convincing myself that taking today off is a good idea as it'll mean i'm actually fresh for my club triathlon champs, even i'm not buying it...

Ed, today off is a good idea. You'll feel better for it.
Severn 1/2ers, awesome work!
Went for a run yesterday. It hurt. -

To be honest, it's the first time I've ever run a road half so I didn't really know what to expect (always raced off road) so I just wanted to go under 90 but as close to 80 as I could.
I set off a bit quick, ran a 6:02, then a 6:03 the first two miles. I'm very happy with 1:25, it just would have been a lot nicer to run an even 6:30 pace the whole way rather than what I did!
I'd like to take a few minutes off at Maidenhead in two weeks (very flat by all accounts), then I need to ramp up the miles for Beachy Head Marathon again!
I quite fancy Snowdon one year, I take it you'd recommend it?

Wife got home and booted me and the dog out of the door :)
Only did 4 miles but tried to get some fast twitch muscles firing to see if I can run 5k at any sort of pace and according to strava it was my second quickest 5k, nearly a minute slower than my quickest, but still not a wasted day, holly had fun too!

xc dates are out. Oct 11th first one for me. Looking forward to them, all Saturday fixtures this year so fingers crossed I get to do all five.
p.s. Top half marathoning folks, well done.

After a long time off running, am getting slowly back into it again and would like something to aim for in the next few months... Am thinking of signing up to either the Old Deer Park Richmond half or Thames Meander half, which are end of Oct / start of Nov.
Anyone got any experience of having done these before?
And do you reckon that gives me enough time to get ready for it (i.e.two months)? I do loads of cycling so am fit, but it's mostly in terms of conditioning and re-building the running specific muscles that I'm talking about. Did five miles the other day without any repercussions (albeit quite slow), if I add a mile each week should be do-able right?

Is that October 12th? I did consider tat when I settled on Richmond or Kingston (Thames Meander), but that's only about 6 weeks away. I could probably do it, but it would be painful.
More convenient for me to get to than Kingston or Richmond though! Looks like the Richmond one would be laps, which sounds dull as...

I did the Thames Meander half last weekend (the summer version) - it was nice, although I don't really have much to compare it with.
Looks like there were about 600 people (including the full marathon), but even though the path isn't very wide, it wasn't too crowded: a couple of spots near the start were tricky for overtaking, but otherwise it was fine.

Yep, 12th October. Who knows, there might even be wombles. I'd happily share a path with 600 wombles.
