At least (some of) Rapha looks good. That vest for $65!
How you can criticise sports wear companies for focusing primarily on performance is beyond me?

Feel free to use that Mr Nike -

Thanks hats, tbh I'd like to get a good (for me) time so think I'll most likely run on my own, but I'll say hi if I see someone meeting that description! Might just end up asking random women "Excuse me, are you hats?".
-
• #9254
Not intentionally. I mean if there are lot of people in pink and black. I'm not a weirdo, honest!
-
• #9255
Just make sure to rub your hands up and down your thighs whilst asking - it puts people at ease.

Good luck guys, hope its not too hot for you out there tomorrow..
Was already sweating this morning at 7am at the start of my Tri...The sea was *gorgeous *though.

The weather man said this weekend was supposed to be cooler. I walked into town at about 9 this morning. The weather man lies!
21 degrees by 10 o clock tomorrow. The first part of the course is quite shaded but the last 3-4 miles have a lot less shade. I've got 4 bottles in the fridge already.

I thought that'd be the case :) I'll probably be wearing ridiculous sunglasses so look for the least srs bsns person there.
There better be an ice cream van at the end, OR ELSE.

finally, we have a rapha brand for running
*ashmei doesnt count or something
Finally - started to get worried.
I go through t shirts like anything - Mostly because I run with a rucksack and the chest strap rubs I guess.
Exactly the reason why I won't be buying a $65 vest!!
-
• #9260
wear it over your rucksack and the straps wont rub. duh!
-
• #9261
Ha I'd love to buy an xxl and do just that!
-
• #9262
Feck that was hard,45 minute ride to get to the lake, and hour and 5 of swimming, and then 2.5 hours of running in the heat.
No PBs but then that wasn't the point, fuelling myself on 3 gels and a Rice Krispies square for all of that was a bit silly though!
-
• #9263
I'd love to be able to run topless, but it ain't gonna happen this year...
-
• #9264
I can, obviously. But I shouldn't.

Up Flow Down Tow Race Report:
Got the train to Windsor with plenty of time to spare, thought I saw someone on the train matching hats' description but was on my way to the loo, saw them again in the start area but was on my way to drop my bag off and then couldn't see them when I got back. Decided not to go around asking everyone if they were hats.
I started in wave 2 right at the back but still managed to set off a bit too fast. I was hoping to maintain an 8 min mile pace but after 4 or 5 miles I was two mins ahead of that pace. Settled into a comfortable rythm behind a couple of guys for a few miles and then passed them when I thought I had a bit more in the legs.
Passing the 6 mile marker at about 46 mins I was still ahead of my planned pace, but pretty pleased knowing that was the fastest 10k I've run and my legs were still feeling good.
Getting to Maidenhead was a good milestone on the route as I knew it was about half way. I'd been eating Jelly Babies at a rate of 1 a mile and making sure I took on water at every mile marker too. The day had started overcast so the first half wasn't too hot, and I'd run through several water stations without feeling he need to take any extra water.
After I started to tire a little from mile 8, so tried to concentrate on just maintaining my pace, eating jelly babies, and sipping water. By mile 10 I was feeling pretty tired but I knew that as we were in Cookham, there wasn't far to go.
The sun was out by this point and the last 3 miles were pretty hot. There was very little shade, my water had run out, and my legs were not feeling so good. I concentrated on getting to the next water point, took two cups and walked a little so I could drink them both before continuing.
The last two miles were about damage limitation for me. I was struggling and knew my pace would drop a lot if I didn't push to maintain it. The heat was taking its toll but after what felt like a very long time the 400m to go sign came into view! The finish was a bit odd, it wasn't really clear where the line was. As I rounded the final corner I saw my girlfiend with my son who gave me a boost to push to the end. I tried to sprint but my legs wouldn't obey my head so I just ran a bit faster over the line.
Completely empty, forgot to stop my watch, almost cramped up, remembered to stop my watch, 1:44:10, not bad, medal, water, banana, kisses for girlfriend and son. Went to sit and watch others finishing and cool off. Saw person-who-might-have-been-hats and shouted DAS but didn't get a response.
It was only after an ice cream that I realised there was a results tent, you typed in your race number and got a little ticket printed off that had your stats on, cool:
Overall gun position: 142
Category position: 65
Gender position: 123
Pace: 7:57 min/mile
Chip time: 1:43:57
Gun time: 1:44:13Pretty happy with the result, even though my legs don't feel happy at all!

Wow, nice one! It was ridiculously hot, so that's an amazing time!
I thought I saw you at the start but was overcome with social awkwardness and nerves so didn't say anything (sorry!).
I don't know how I feel about my race, first 8 miles were okay but very hot and I thought it was too overcast at the start to need sunglasses so I left them in my bag (a mistake).
I had to stop briefly about 8 miles in as I felt the overwhelming desire to be sick. As I knelt in the undergrowth a beetle landed on my leg and bit me, drawing blood! The fuck?? I swatted it away and it bit me on my other leg, so as I couldn't muster any actual vomit I carried on running.
About a mile later I noticed my right hand was very heavy and when I looked down it had been replaced by a claw (I had neurapraxia after a crash last year and had a claw hand for weeks). It's a little better now but still clawing and I don't know why. Off to the doctor's in the morning...
A mile after that I tripped on some gravel and went down, cutting my hands and leg. I pulled the big bits of gravel out and tried to rinse off at the next water station but the medics had to do the rest at the end.
I have a terrible tendency to talk myself out of things, telling myself I can't do it. I did quite a lot of that today. It doesn't matter that I am actually running along, I'll decide I can't do it. Then my self confidence is screwed and I can't get it back. I was happy to cross the line but now I feel disappointed and annoyed with myself.
I'm glad I did it, I wish I'd done better, I had an Irn Bru afterwards, story of my life.

Well done to both of you!
I didn't realise you were running in my manor, we ran the wrong way down some of the course today before the race started trying to work out what the random numbers were along the river!

Thanks! This was my first half so I'm quite pleased.I don't know how I feel about my race, first 8 miles were okay but very hot and I thought it was too overcast at the start to need sunglasses so I left them in my bag (a mistake).
I did the same thing and wished I hadn't quite soon after starting.I had to stop briefly about 8 miles in as I felt the overwhelming desire to be sick. WTF beetle? Dick move. Did you eat before starting? I've had the need-to-be-sick feeling before when running after (a small) dinner.I have a terrible tendency to talk myself out of things, telling myself I can't do it. I did quite a lot of that today. You shouldn't feel disappointed! You made it to the end despite nature's best efforts at biting, burning, cutting and scraping you off the course, so well done! -

top work Arducius that's a great time.
sounds like you had a bad race hats but it happens to us all from time to time. sounds like you toughed it out well though as you often do with such things. hope the claw thing is nothing serious.
I got bitten by something during the hackney half and it wouldn't stop bleeding for about 20 minutes. then it swelled up and I had what looked like a massive mosquito bite running the full length of my forearm and about 2 inches wide. insects are dicks.

I'm still aching today, but for some reason I've just signed up for the Maidenhead Half. It's on my birthday. Who chooses to get up early on their birthday and run bloody miles? I think there is something wrong with me.

Also that Berkley Marathons thing looks mental.

• #9273
^^I went out and did 9 miles first thing on christmas day last year
more miles = more cake.
-
• #9274
I did 40 miles on my 40th birthday, and another 40 on my 40+1 day birthday.
Also won the Xmas Day Tri 3 years running, including non-wetsuit swim and smashing the ice to get into the lake.
13 miles on your birthday - don't know you're born...

I'd had breakfast (tea and porridge) before leaving the house, so not recent enough to warrant feeling ill. I had a gel but it's one I've had a million of before. I think I just had a dodgy stomach - afterwards I spent some extended quality time in a portaloo but I still didn't feel right and didn't eat anything solid until quite late that evening.
insects are dicks.
Word.
Here are some comedy photos from sunday (the 3rd one is actually a family portrait - it's my brother/pacemaker):
^ My brother and I are in wave 2 tomorrow, Dammit is in wave 1 but might wait back for us so we can run together. You're very welcome to run with us though I think you're faster than the weakest link in our group (ie. me).
I'll be wearing a black and pink vest with black and pink shorts, as manufacturers seem to think women only want to run in things that are either pink or have pink stripes...
