  • Nailed it. My friend Lizzie plodded it in 4h30 but then again she's off to Cape a town for the Ultra marathon on thursday and has 8 left to run in her quest.

For the record, you beat her London course record by three seconds!

Well done mate. Plan well executed. How are the legs today?

  • Knee hold up OK HB?

  • Was sat at the windmill with John and Andrew, and a fresh-faced looking woman came up with her medal and sat with the group behind us. She finished in 3:17 and didn't look even slightly tired.

  • Well done HB!

  • Well done all those who completed yesterday, good show all round, medals for everyone.

Just did a 20 miler on Sat, after a 60 mile bike and a sea swim, it was pretty tough, despite being flat, as it was very windy on the coast - you guys had a much better day yesterday. Was too lazy to come back and spectate, so just spent the morning bobbing around in the sea to let the legs recover.

  • hat beard I think I saw you with your LFGSS cap on in the wharf around 18 miles in - you were in the 3.45 group at that stage I think...

kudos to anyone that finished it yesterday - couldnt have been easy in the heat..

  • It's a local running crew. We gather and basically spend the whole day trying to encourage as many people as possible. It's a great spot, mile 21 is when for many it really starts to hurt and becomes a mental game. All are welcome to come down.

I'm pretty sure I saw you lot. This the same thing?

  • Yeah that's them. I went to their after party. They're a really good bunch. Seeing them just before mile 21and then my gf and my mum a few hundred yards later was a big boost. In fact I ran that mile in 7:08.

Princeperch that does sound like me.

  • Well done everyone who ran yesterday!

I did a nice fast 5.5k at lunch today. Tried to hang onto my colleague's pace for the first half and just about managed it, then ran my own "fast" pace for the second half, trying to catch another colleague. Felt like I'd use everything in the first half and then got a second wind and actually ran (as opposed to jogged) about the last quarter. Felt like a bit of a breakthrough!

basically my training was spot on. can't find a single fault with my prep at all. hansons marathon method == approved.
Just looked this up, after getting a text from my mum yesterday that read "Me, you, next year, London Marathon?". It would be a good achievement in the year I turn 30.

  • I wasn't expecting to hate the London Marathon so much. Everyone says the crowd is amazing and supportive, but I found it too loud and noisy.

My ITB seized up about 10 miles in and I suffered in the heat. After I threw up at mile 18 I felt a bit better but my whole day was fucked and I spent quite a lot of it in tears. Thankfully I was wearing sunglasses.

I finally crossed the line a couple of minutes after 5 hours, which feels like an enormous disappointment, and isn't what I trained or hoped for.

I've written about it in boring detail here.

At least I got a nice hefty medal.

  • Great work hats, it's not a proper long run unless you throw up somewhere. Don't be despondent - you made shedloads of cash for a deserving charity and managed to look much more glam in the afterphoto than most of those speedsters like HB did.

You've trained well, save it all for the next one and utterly kill it.

  • ^^no matter what you think Hats, it is an AWESOME and AMAZING achievement. WELL done. Xxx

  • I can't believe you finished after miles in agony and throwing up. Amazing/awful. Well done.

Brighton might be good if you're after a quieter course.

  • ^ This

    Brighton >>>>> London

  • Well done all VLMers.

Had a bit of a manic spectating day. Was at mile 7 for the elites and sub 3 hour pacemakers. Then ran up to mile 14.5 through the foot tunnel, just missing Mo but catching the 2:30 club athletes. This was followed by a breakneck chase across London to try and get to Blackfriars before the Elites, 6.20mile pace in thoroughly inappropriate clothing but we made it. Ran past the Run Dem house, which was fun. ANd then one of our clubmates came through to finish 4th Brit. So a good day all in all.

  • Well I'm fucking proud of you Hats. You've had a tough year with injury and 26.2 is no walk in the park. A very worthwhile cause too. I didnt realise you were running for wfw. Congratulations.

Oi, I looked proper glam afterwards. Flippin cheek.

  • Well done hats. Sounds like you had a tough one but well done for soldiering on.

Still think you should be proud.

Sounds very much like my last Marathon. Mirrored sunnies FTW. Tried to sneak off home, But I was wearing number 33, and a local Club member was running his 333 Marathon. So I got pushed into a press photo.

  • In other news I started my prep for nibbedobbelen in ernest yesterday.

I need to be able to Climb 1500m over 21km. Last night I managed 511m over 15km, and felt good climbing. So if I dont blow a hamstring on the bike ride this time. I feel I could jog the whole way.

  • I've done sweet FA.

I may be tempted to go for a run in the Brecons soon though.

My first plan was to run to Snowdon - except that it's a really short run, and it's a stupidly long way away.

  • I'm so far behind where I was at this time last year (in terms of base) that it's just not funny.

I've still got the end of the cold that floored me last week- a friend of mine (to whom I gave it) is convinced he's got AID's.

So, my training for the slopes of mount Dalsnibba start basically now.

I do have one advantage- I've not torn my soleus (yet!), so will actually be able to do some running before the event this time round.

TBH. I should fecking ignore it, and prepare for Styrkeprøven. Thats the main and toughest goal of the year.

But my bike is all shiney, with new chain, cassette, cables, etc. So I'm using killing myself running up Mountains as an excuse to leave it indoors.

My plan for nibbedobbelen is to hold Dammits wheel the entire ride, and follow Your heels for the entire run.

So you feckers better get training!

I'm currently recovering from a cold that has levelled me too. Really bad timing. I don't normally get hit too badly by colds but this fucker put me in bed for a few days and is now getting a bit coughy as I start to feel better.

I've only missed 8 days or running but I'm feeling super lame. Can't quite decide whether to go for a really slow jog when it warms up a bit later or give it another day.

Didn't help getting trolled by Hatbeard and HairyChris for being a fat bastard on Facebook this morning!

  • I'm sure they did it with love in their hearts :-)
