Say I wanted to try a 10k. And say I wanted to follow some sort of training plan to help me not completely die...
If, *if *I wanted to do this, would anyone know where I could find one (free) online? I'd be coming from being able to go for about 3-4 miles before I start to get tired and no "proper" running experience.

You have mastered running 5k and now you feel you are ready to step up to your next challenge.

Hmm, I've "mastered" nothing! Would just like to be able to run a bit further. Will have a read.

(reply to t.i.r.) I have tried Strava for the last month. I have mixed feelings about it. I will try to write more with reasoning sometime.

couch to... is aimed at beginners wanting to get up to the distance so will be fine for your needs.

Being able to run 3 - 4 miles counts as mastering, in this context. -

Is this for an event in the near future?
If you can run 3-4miles without problems, slowly increase your run distance by 10-15% a week.I'm a hypocrite though so don't listen to me. I have a Half Marathon on the 30th that I haven't really been training for. Now I hurt after a big jump in distance when training today...

^I'm doing another 16 miler on sunday if you want to join me for a lap of richmond.
Come and do the Kingston breakfast run!
Not really serious as apart from water and energy drinks being handed out and the pressure that it's a "race" it'll be the same as running round Richmond park...

There's a 10k in just over 8 weeks that some of the guys from work are doing so will have some training buddies so seems like a good plan to try.
When you say "without problems", I feel ok when running but pretty tired afterwards. Legs aching the next day. Same as I used to feel after a long ride I suppose (nowadays I don't do any long rides :( )
Thanks for the replies, I had a look at the training plans linked from C210k and came up with:
Mon - shorter run
Tues - Badminton club (I don't want to stop this)
Weds - Rest
Thurs - Longer run
Fri - Cross training (again, with a group from work. Includes core and speed/strength work)
Sat/Sun - DIY (boat can't suffer because of this)First "training" run starts tomorrow and then this routine kicks in from Monday. hopefully I won't die!

Or run 600 miles in one go, eating only 1 mars bar and your toenails./knightlancer

What time do you reckon you'll get to Richmond Park? -

Today I sent an email to my local(isn) Bloodhound hunt, asking to be one of their quarries.
Fingers crossed, eh.Side note, operation fell-running fit is beginning.
Aiming to drop 2kgs, loads of core exercises and lower leg strength.Oh and hill reps of the local tiny incline.
