  • no chance, hats is now my race-nemesis. I'll be doing my solid best to mess up her training so I can beat her.

    cough

  • Ha!

(hope you're okay, sounds not nice)

  • ^Bowel loosening terror is my reaction to the thought of going down Dalsnibba on those.
unfortunately you have to go up on them.

Roller skiers are the bane of my life right now. Nearly killed one a month ago. Roller skiing towards me on he wrong side of an unlit country road, While I mashed along a flat Strava segment in the drops. My light caught some reflective detial on his gloves and I swerved. But feck it was close. They seem to meander sideways too.

I'm fitting TW2 with american football shoulder pads for the bike decent. Maybe he can reduce their numbers a bit.

  • Just tie a donut round their necks on a length of string, he'll eat them whole as he passes.

  • Did you report this to the police? He'll probably push a kid into a moving bus

I didn't, it didn't occur to me until a minute later and I didn't really have a proper description, other than the rather generic "adult male with mad eyes". I wish I had though, I feel a bit bad about it.

I forgot about this. Also, IT IS A RACE.

  • good luck to all the Hampton Court runners on Sunday.

what other races are people doing this weekend? Is anyone else (rwn) going to the Nationals tomorrow?

  • what other races are people doing this weekend?

I hope that use of the R-word was just to rile TW2? :)

I am thinking about doing a parkrun tomorrow, will have to see how tired I am though (current tiredness levels - stratospheric). Does that count as a race?

I shall be at the (Scottish) Nationals, as I'm up here these days. Sadly I shall not be running due to my foot looking like I've strapped half an aubergine to it... Shame as I was getting quite fit (for me)

  • No races or mass participation events for me, training hard this week heading into a bit of a taper for Reading next week, it will be interesting to see how my efforts to focus on swimming, core strength and cycling will affect this years spring half marathon vs last years running only training...

In other new my new shoes arrived at work today for the courier to try to deliver to reception and be told to go to the courier desk and to take this to mean that they don't take parcels...

So they are trying again next week, chumps!

  • Wanted to to a quick 5k run before pub last night. Ran out of time working late so just went to pub with intention of running the 10k into work today (for the first time).

Four and a half pints of ale, two packets of crisps and half a scotch egg for dinner. Woke up bleary, had some apple juice and a small cup of tea and set off. Was dry retching in the rarified environs of Herne Hill by mile two. A horrible, horrible run and bad idea from start to finish. Finally made it to work, almost an hour late having had to go and buy pants, socks, deodorant, shower gel etc (which I only realised I'd need whilst already on my way).

Been feeling like a GOD all day.

  • Is anyone running the Silverstone Half Marathon? I'll be driving down from London and have an empty car...

  • pants, socks, deodorant, shower gel

These are not somthing a runners need in their lives from what i can tell.

  • ^also awesomely, when I got to work the only place within striking distance that sold pants was a station branch of "back of the Telegraph magazine in real life" aka Fat Face. Rushed in bought horrible, shit branded pants rushed out. Only after shower realised I'd bought XXL which were the size of a marquee. As a result I spent Friday morning with my sweaty crotched running tights on under my suit.

  • I think we should create a Running Thread award for dedication to running, which Dooks would win this week for his highly entertaining commute.

  • my sweaty crotched running tights

    dibs.

    possible split?

  • Hmm talking of piss poor preparation (I hope you can laugh about it now dooks!) I'm going to ry to do better than the 15 miler I did a couple of weeks ago where I took a bottle of water that was half full on the basis that I couldn't be bothered to carry a full one, and had no cash to refill it, even when I passed a cafe I know well I decide I'd be ok with no water for the last 5 miles.

I think cycling and running distances got confused in my brain...

  • Sitting in a Starbucks waiting for my train to the half. Met up with dropout and Stonehenge last night and even though I 'definitely wasn't drinking' put away 5 pints of Guinness.

Luckily not feeling hungover as I ate my bodyweight in pasta and drowned myself in pints of water when I got home.

Am using the race to practice/stress test my marathon fuelling strategy of taking a gel every 3-4 miles. Worked well on my 16 miler and no sign of the stomach rumbles so hopefully I'll be flying from all the carbs. Especially as I've been training low on my 10-12 mile long runs the past 2 weeks with no water or energy gels.

Will know what my body is thinking when I start running I guess.

  • Why train so hard then deliberately damage your own performance?!

  • In HB's defence it's only a half (so couple hours suffering at most) and it's still just a training run rather than the main event I guess? Run/life balance n'all that...

Hope it goes well and doesn't end like this:

  • Today's run is going to be fun, I was swing dancing until 2am and then ate a McFlurry on the nightbus home.

I hope all the RACES are going well this morning!

  • g'luck HB.

  • That was a fun mass-start Race, followed quite a conservative strategy at first, ended up really legging it in the final 4k or so because I felt like I had a lot left.

Next time I think I need to go out a bit harder from the gun, and not start in the 2 hour pen.

The course was ~.5 miles short I think, so i ran round the playing fields past the finish to hit the distance.

Race time was bang on 1.45, chip time will be a couple of minutes faster- but actual time is pretty much 1.45 once playing fields are included.

    EDIT 1.43.04 chip time: https://www.sportsystems.co.uk/ss/results/Hampton%20Court%20Half%20Marathon/1256

  • Another 14.8 miles today. Faster, but so, so, so wiped out now.

  • How was Hampton Court? was the weather ok or was it a bit windy?

Nationals in Nottingham yesterday were fun, a course recce suggested there was only one patch of mud. When we were running it there was significantly more than one patch, I nearly lost a shoe halfway round the second lap. A difficult course but not as tough as Parliament Hill.

This morning's long slow run at 6:43 was too fast and not long enough but has totally destroyed me.
