good timing for a trial shoe discussion!
I've loved my Adidas Kanadias for the last 3 years but the lugs are wearing out, and i've just signed up to the Classic Quarter - my first Ultra so its time for something new, although I am tempted to just buy another pair of the Kanadias!
I really like the look of the x-talons, but I need to try them on, where in london is likely to have a decent stock?

You really should try some inov8s. Great shoes.

I'll have a look, I've got a gait assessment with the Drummond clinic in a couple of weeks so I'll see what they think about my running, although if they say I need corrective shoes I'll probably ignore them.
@dst unfortunately I can't seem to find the same model as I bought them in 2011 when they were already out of production...

I'm reading the cool impossible by eric orton (the guy who coached the author of born to run) and while the way it's written is utter utter bollocks (he talks to you like you've gone to his town for a weeks training and he spends more time describing the surroundings than anything else) it includes both lower body and upper body strength workouts including a progressive plan for improving foot strength using a slant board then moving up to a wobble board and swiss ball that seems to be well received.
http://www.warriorwomen.co.uk/2013/09/04/how-to-make-a-cool-impossible-slant-board/
as I am now of the same mind as Ed re: not going back to corrective shoes I have ordered a cheap slant board to start doing his exercises to help my transition to minimal shoes, so will let you know how I get on with it and if it helps improve stability in my gait.

I road run with support, and cushioning. Classic overpronator, like most runners. Well I did before going barefoot.
Never really considered gait offroad. Just need the right amount of grip vs smoothness, and the right amount of cushioning vs trail feel, for you use.
I like the roclites as there are a lot of rocks on my trails so a bit of cushioning is nice. Plus you can do a lot of tarmac km's on them without getting beaten up. My O-rocs are uber aggressive. So I only use them for mud/snow.

Re: barefoot running.
I worked up to 7km on my Skoras. Then after a Christmas party with the rugby club. I found myself looking at an impossible taxi queue, pissed up, at 4:30am, wearing trendy plimsol type things. So I ran 10km home.
Totally destroyed my knees for days. But saved £30 for a cab I guess.
Done a few runs since and I seem to be back on it.

Eyebrows, I got a pair of these for Christmas, I'm really enjoying running in them- I ran 23 miles in them over Sunday and Monday on the road.

Did 6.4 miles tonight after work, at a slow 10:30 min pace, but it felt good. About to devour everything in the kitchen. That pace would beat my PB for the marathon so I'm quite happy to build from there. Just need to lose some podge and gain some endurance.

Yeah I moved away from almost those exact shoes a year back, and I've never looked back. Just a bit too much cushioning, for me. Thinking X-talons as per above, may get trailroc as well.

I feel very similar to this at the moment!

Anyone used the Brooks Pure Cadence 2?
The salesman at Runners Needs told me they'd be a good transition-shoe to barefoot running, especially coming from the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13 as I do
Anyone with experience?

They offered me the same a while back I think, felt good, but didn't buy them, bought the Virrata's instead, which aren't really barefoot, haven't looked back.

Right, what are the odds on finding a Nike all-over Flash jacket in either Heathrow duty free, or Denver airports?
-
• #7142
http://www.heathrow-airport-guide.co.uk/shops-t-4.html
there's a nike duty free shop in t-4 and probably the others as well
number for the shop is on that page, call them...
I've been eyeing that jacket too as I've got a tax rebate that just came through, can't see it getting much use if the cold snap doesn't hit hard this year as I'm still rolling my baselayer sleeves up when i'm warmed up (and only use a gilet to keep the wind off my chest and hide my paunch :( ).

I had a look at that but couldn't see (admittedly at a glance) how I got the cash back, so didn't bother.

I have v1 of the flash jacket and the phrase boil in the bag doesn't begin to cover it....
If you liked them and have been fairly niggle free then get another pair. if you've had niggles running in them go to a running shop with them (and your road shoes) and get assessed.
