  • Oh, and there's no drawstring to cinch up the hood. Really really silly omission...

  • Sweatshop has the shield jacket for £192
    http://www.sweatshop.co.uk/clothing/jackets/nike-men-s-shield-flash-jacket-aw13-22244.html
Still waay too rich for my tastes, def a nike whore for running clothes but the Karrimor will more than do the job for being seen with.

  • Edmundro, did you buy the jacket today - or what I'm asking is, is Sports Direct open today? I'm debating leaving the house and going to my nearest, but it's raining and my ankle hurts.

  • I just bought it 20mins ago! Mine(friern barnet) is def open

  • Cool, cheers! I might go and brave OKR then. I want something fluro and gross.

  • I was overwhelmed by the amount of nodderrun gear available at the moment. Karrimor is certainly the king of flouro vom..

  • I am, however, going to have to take the bus to the shop as I finished that stupid strava challenge yesterday despite my twisted ankle. It's now swollen straight back up again and is a weird colour, but who cares, I won an internet badge...

  • ^^ This is music to my ears. I have a sick hankering for the most noddy of all the noddy jackets.

  • The purple and orange combos would really show off your bruised ankle...

  • Where is the cheapest place to buy a Nike Shield Flash jacket?

Best I've found so far is £211 at Wiggle: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/nike-shield-flash-jacket-ho13/

If you buy it from sportsshoes its £137.50 - using 10% quidco cashback.

  • I've got the Nike Flash gillet thing- wore it over Christmas when running down unlit lanes/tracks/old-railways/roads with no pavements around Winchester and it made me extremely visible, which is helpful in those conditions.

However, when it's pissing down my arms get cold, hence thinking that the jacket would be nice.

On the bike I get very cold very easily, when running I'm the opposite- I guess because I run at ~165-170 bpm average, so a warm jacket is not a great idea, but then when it's raining the evaporation tends to wick heat away pretty effectively.

  • Wondering.
Now that I've got this jacket and decided it's not quite as good as it could be, would a dry cleaners that does alterations be able to shorten the sleeves by an inch and add a drawcord to the hood easily enough?
Imagine the cord would just require a couple of loops of webbing round the inside of the hood to hold it in place.

  • Adding a drawcord would be easy. Would you just want an inch off the cuffs? That sounds pretty straightforward. (caveat: this is based on knowledge gleamed from my GCSE textiles...)

  • Have just finished sewing in the first loop. Took 5mins. I got dis...

Have ordered grey bungee and toggles/ends. Will be plenty of each left over if anyone needs any for any reason

  • Free shoes!

Slightly too small for me, free to the first person who knocks on my door and asks for them.

  • Are they a small 10 1/2 or did you just get the wrong size?

  • I think they size up a little small, I've replaced them with some 10.5 Asics which are extremely comfortable.

EDIT that said I used a foot bed in them, which I don't use in the Asics, and that does take a lot of space out.

You'd have to try them, I reckon.

  • I've got a pair of 11's, which I have yet to test outside.

  • Lots of loops of webbing sewn into hood ready for bungee and cord locks. Really happy with the result, looks almost factory.

  • Me and Liz have just got our places for York marathon in oct confirmed. Daunted about running that far the week after our wedding but the training should at least keep us in shape for the big day..

  • finally got out for the first time this year, only 5k as I've potentially got quite a big weekend, with a long ride on Saturday and a 10k xc race on Sunday...

I seem to have lost a lot of speed in my legs through doing a series of relatively long slow runs over Christmas and new year, so i think i'm going to struggle to get close to 40 minutes, but we shall see!

  • Start of the year a good time to finally kick off my plan to progress to being able to run well to and from work (8 miles each way) on the same day. So I ran 4 miles to Clapham Junction this morning, train the rest of the way. Will do the reverse this evening. Will do this two or three days each week. Will try to progress each week to running to the next station closer to Shepherds Bush, till I'm running the full distance each way the same day. Currently a run to work is no problem but even running back from Clapham on the return is painful.

Was hard to turn left to Clapham Junction rather than just head for Battersea Bridge and on to work, but I have to stick with the plan.

  • Will have missed a whole weeks running this week due to an achey ankle after a short run on Tuesday, not amused. A quick uninformed googling would suggest its Peroneal Tendonitis possibly. If I can afford it il get down to the sports injury clinic to get it looked at. It's not so bad now and doesn't really hurt after a few miles of running but fairly sure I'm better off with rest and recovery at this point while Paris is still a while away...

  • If any doubt, rest/low impact cross training. Still plenty of time upto Paris.

Not run myself since 18th due to sinus infection problems. XC on 12th looks doubtful as a result.

  • @ ed that sounds like 3 days!

as rhb says better to let yourself recover now rather than carry a niggle for weeks, but if you are getting worried jump on your bike, on a climbing wall or in a pool and cross train as best you can.
