You'll find it a lot easier to knock out a slow run if you already have a speed session and a tempo session in your legs for the week.
And if you make it a long run as well.

Just ordered the Garmin FR620 as a little pre-christmas treat to myself, Wanted a slightly better watch now my training is beginning to take shape and I had promised myself if I finished under 25 minutes last sunday I'd go for the 620 otherwise I'd get the 220 instead.
Anyone need a cheap forerunner 110? Won't need mine as soon as the 620 shows up (hopefully on friday).

Ran out of books on my e-reader so bought born to run. only started it this morning but am already 2/3rds of the way through.
asides from the (many!) lance armstrong references being a smidge out of context these days it's a good read but then you hit the mid-section and out of nowhere he's ranting at you why shoes are bad. ok, mate, thanks for that, get back to the tarahumara race please.
any other running books worth a read? need more distractions for the commute.

Feet in the Clouds by Rchard Askwith. Best book on running ever.
It is a constant feature on my bookshelf, alongside Waterlog, as inspiration.
I also like Running with the Kenyans. -

Yes Aharahand Finn running with Kenyans, and Feetin clouds essential Scott Jureks worth following.
Have "Adventure in Mind" by Heather Dawe coming today, new first book on my subject
Let you know what its like.
Friday training later ready for mendips race sunday- cant wait -

cheers both have added them to my kindle wishlist.
Am oddly excited about getting my new garmin even though the reality is it'll make little difference to my training other than a slight increase in convenience. but fuck it NEW TOYS!!!! woo!
unfortunately it's in Yodel's hands right now so I probably won't see it for a week.

All dressed ready for a decent two hour run this morning, swollen toe made running too painful. Boo.

just psyching myself up for a 10-miler.
edit: if anyone else is considering the fr620 and they use android then be aware the live tracking feature is iOS only and so far i have been unable to pair it to my home wifi network to do over the air uploading as it seems any thing with n or 5ghz in the name it refuses to work with. I have to create a portable hotspot on my mobile and connect it to that instead if I don't want to have to plug it into a computer to upload to garmin connect (one of the few features that should set it apart from the 220 and one of the reasons i chose it). feels like they've rushed it out the door a bit quick. the watch seems ok but the software supporting it is quite lacking.

Hatbeard- where did you get it from? I'm contemplating the 220 to replace my broken 405.

sweatshop.co.uk is the sole supplier at the moment.
try code CST1OF for 10% off (was meant to get a diff code for running a mo-running race but it was expired so they gave me that instead).

10k challenge done, but in an odd way. Set out to do a longer run, 13-14k, so took it easy. Or so I thought. Checked my phone after 5k and had a decent time, so set off home at full pace, and managed 10k in 49:20 according to strava. moving time was 48:46 over 10.3k, so I figure that's not what's count.
Anyway, pb on 10k according to strava.

^ nice one
My 10 miler was really enjoyable today. was testing out a belt I bought on the cheap from sweatshop for 4 quid when I got the new garmin as I realise I need to start working on my fueling now I'm about to start going over the 10 mile mark on my long runs. wasn't particularly keen on running with a full water bottle bouncing around on my hip but after a few hundred yards I settled into my stride and it was fine for the rest of the run.
I took a full waterbottle with a nuun tablet in it (tropical for the detail oriented) and had a banoffee gel thing tucked into the little gel loop. and I think it worked out about right for the run.
I set out pretty fast considering it was a long run but was I struggling to rein in my pace and slow it down and eventually gave up trying as i felt pretty comfortable running between 8:30 and 9:00 min/mile pace so I went on feel instead. must have worked as I pretty much kept up 9:00 min/mile for the whole distance.
when I hit mile six I stopped for a few seconds, gulped down the gel and began drinking from my water bottle and it seemed to be perfect timing as I'd felt myself starting to slow ever so slightly but within a couple of minutes I was feeling fresh again and ready to just keep going.
had planned my route to stop nearish to sainsburys so after the 10 miles I had a slow (11:30 min/mile) jog to the supermarket to cool down by which point my right calve was super tight but not really hurting as such. I bought some ice and a bag of fresh pasta and headed home.
Did some quick stretching then hopped into an ice bath while my dinner was cooking then wolfed down a massive bowl of pasta with cajun chicken, sour cream and guacamole.
Now sitting here with a full belly feeling pretty good about myself.
10k race next saturday so will be taking it a bit easier this week.

Top work there, and good info as I'm gonna start hitting the 10 mile mark soon as well. Been pondering belts, might get one as well

it's good for £4 but isn't amazing, i had to hold it in place while i pulled the bottle out etc so it's not the most elegantly designed but it was comfortable enough and holds plenty so for £4 it's not a bad experiment to see if you can get on running with one I guess.

Did 5.6k with my wife and dog today in 38 minutes, a couple of short walks particularly on the really long hill.
Very proud of her considering that running for a bus was a real challenge 4 months ago, will keep encouraging her and hopefully she'll be running Cliveden 10k with me in January!

I've done Cliveden is a lovely course when the leaves are falling.
Be warned I don't think they allowed people to run with dogs. -

Be warned I don't think they allowed people to run with dogs. That's a bit mean. I'm sure his wife is very attractive.
I'll get me coat.
6.5k/156bpm. Not sure I can run any slower than that, it felt like I was barely moving.
Average HR could've been a bit lower but I couldn't resist gunning it up a short/steep hill half way round. Good to see that after increasing it to 180 it came back down again pretty quickly.
Bit odd that the HR trace is very erratic before the hill and then suddenly much smoother. Most reasonable explanation I can think of for that is a bit more sweat making the HRM reading more accurate.
