I like a bit of heavy metal on my runs.
This was working well last night...
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell (official video) - YouTube
...[/old man].Hell yeah! I might start running again.
"Oooh, fucking mo-bile!"
Wait, does that make me old?

More like fucking horrifying. Would not touch with a barge pole.
PS: they are run by a running shop, so suspect it's just a device to sell you stuff. But I'm massively cynical about that stuff. Run hard then drink beer, instead of that pish.
Thanks for that, will steer well clear of them then!
Sparky, cheers for the invite but we've already booked our hotel but might join you for pasta and beer...

^^
Thats from 92. I saw them live in 94 I think. I got a nice black eye in the mosh pit, and my mate lost his marbles crowd surfing on LSD, and spent the last half hour in the carpack dribbling. Happy days.

Working from home today so replaced the ride in with a gentle (slow) 5k. The hip is much less painful than last time out, whether that's anything to do with the slower pace or it's actually getting better I'm not sure.
Cautious optimism.

......20 years ago.I never saw them live. Dimebag was shot before I was old enough and in a position to get to a gig. :(

@ rwn. No cross-country races for me this winter. Am rediscovering my love of running having done very little during the year. Maintenance runs only til Spring. The club did well last weekend though.

Nice. I didn't have the balls to go fluro when I got my pair. Enjoy the pain; as well as the calves, my arches get a sweet burn from actually doing a bit of work for a change. It's not an unpleasant sensation by any means...

I might try a bit of barefoot tonight.

I dunno. The fluoro ones looked the part to me. kinda fitted in with the whole space age design. Plus the brighter the shoe, the faster the shoe. I have shit taste though.
The US site I bought them from did an advance customs calc and charge, which should speed things along. Could maybe have saved on tax and had them delivered to the UK. But I have a mountain of bike stuff waiting there, to be explained away when I go there with Mrs Smallfurry.
I run in the woods behind my house. You cant really land on your heel there as its all rocks and roots. So my calfs get a beasting doing that. Plus my regular sunday 420 step climb. Still, I think there is probably a lot of remaining potiental for suffering.

Have just contacted London Heathside - 'London's friendliest running club'(seemed strangely appropriate) about joining them for a sunday run sometime to see what this club malarky is all about.
Work tomorrow morning but will make myself do 10k afterwards which'll be my longest distance to date in minimalist shoes. Undecided to wear Skora's or Vibrams as yet, like them equally but think that having a bit of padding wouldn't go amiss while I get my calves in order. -

Coincidentally I was going to do a park run tomorrow... Checked the website, oh I have to register... Done... The bit about printing out the bar code... Is there no way round that?
-
• #6316
You can just turn up and get the barcode they hand out at the run to get your finish time. You will not be named in the result sheet etc but you can just turn up.
Further explination
They hand you a 2nd barcode as you cross the finish, at the end of the finish funnels they scan your personal (printed off barcode) and your finish barcode (which they keep) You will just not have the first barcode so they will not be able to put a name against that time/position. You do not need a barcode to start, as they know what time the run started. -
• #6317
Ah, I was hoping that despite the warnings on the site they might be able to scan my phone, or that it was possible to enter the code under the bars... Guess I'll stay up and try to get my printer to work then :-/

^ they used to let you tell'em your number as that's how I did it, think popularity stops that now, too busy.
In other news... the only weather check website for anyone racing the cross country leagues... http://xcweather.co.uk

Anyone up for a gentle extended run/potter/explore/climb trees on Hampstead Heath next sunday? Not really run much off road but really enjoyed it the other week. Nothing serious, just a bit of a scamper around to break the monotony of running the routes near me..
-
• #6320
That sounds proper daft. I'd be up for it but my sister's in town next weekend and I'm not sure how I'd go about explaining I was going scampering round the heath with people I know off the internet.
-
• #6321
Meh, there will be many other weekends ahead during the long dark of winter.

Went out today with the intention of doing a slow half marathon distance.
Got to around kilometre 3 and all sorts of "no, no stop it!" messages coming from my ankles and shins, almost abandoned it but pushed on- by the time I'd got to kilometre 7 I was starting to run quite freely and the pain vanished.
Is this just a natural warm up period? Wasn't much fun, if there is a way to avoid it I'd be glad to hear it.

I think that kind of niggle happens in all sports and is a bit random.
For me it's usually the first mile when's brain seems to tell my body- if you protest now we can eat cake instead/ ooh look a Gregg's, bet they have the cronut now/etc.
Cycling I usually find it's the first 10 where my body doesn't want to know, which makes my commute a drag to begin with and then a very brief punt of pure fun.Anyways, I've been away from this thread for too long.
About 2 weeks ago I tried to run too soon after a CX race and promptly got scared- 'what if you can't run anymore'/ 'it's just not that fun- go cycling'/etc.
I ate myself today as a deadline for restarting training, and so this morning with little expectation I set off for a short one. Ended up 12k later, beaming, panting and dripping with sweat. Just south of 50mins. I fucking love running. -

walking. like. bambi.
Ale & Sunday Roast is helping.

I find the first 3 miles are awkward and painful at least half of the time, but then something clicks and it's all good..
More like fucking horrifying. Would not touch with a barge pole.
