Its windy up here. You can generate enough heat to cope with pretty cold temps. But the wind is a killer.
I ran home thinking about a fat glass of wine and a bowl of mini shreddies.

^^ I spent the whole of Sundays hm thinking it's only 13 miles till I can have a beer, 12 miles to beer, 11 miles to beer etc....

My pace has slowed to slightly above a fast walk; I don't think bargaining with myself is going to improve matters.
I am still going though. Like a Duracell bunny just before it keels over. 42.5 miles down.

running at just after 6am i'm finding running tights, shorts over the top, a uniqlo heattec l/s top and a technical hoody is very good for the first mile which is brass monkeys then I tend to warm up and unzip the hoody about halfway to let some air in.
monday and today it's been just about right. I also had some merino glove liners on today but took them off pretty quickly. they definitely helped for the couple of minutes walking to the end of my road where I start my run from though.

The right amount of clothing to wear is precisely the level below which you will be arrested for indecent exposure. Less if you're sure you can outrun the polis.
Not that I'm running anyway - just had to quit DecaIronman after 2 days as my kneecap keeps dislocating. This is a result of ignoring injuries for the last couple of years. I am not to be listened to.

if the sun was up i'd probably just be in shorts and a top but I won't be seeing the sun during my weekday runs until sometime next year now :(

Lunchtime 5k? Race you?

speaking of the weather changing, i've not ran in the winter before. should I be budgeting for a pair of 'winter' running shoes. maybe something more like a trail running shoe. I'm like bambi when it comes to walking on anything slippery let alone running.

^^ ooh maybe. have got a couple of 30 minute weekday runs coming up in my training plan over next 2 weeks. but running in the city can get to fuck though.

Winter running shoes are often easy to identify - they are decorated with Thomas the Tank Engine or My Little Pony, and have flashy lights in the heel.
Or you could just wear normal running shoes for running on London's famous London streets.

I've got some races lined up in parks etc as well. obvs if the weathers ok my normal shoes are fine, I'm just asking if i need to be thinking about it at least so I can put some money aside if need be. I need to run all through winter to stay on track with my training so it's best to be prepared.
though my little pony flashy running shoes sound the tits, where can i get some?

I've got those Kanadia's that I posted about earlier in this very thread for sale- UK10.
They're off-road biased, so ideal for running over leaves/slush/mud, I wear them when running in the country around WInchester.

Normal running shoes with bit more grip should be versatile enough for park running, without being too bumpy for road running.

I'm sorry to hear this, but what even is that?

Off-road shoes in general will have a grippier rubber base. But less cushioning. So if you're a standard heel stricking runner. It would be better to learn to balance than trash your knees.

Heading into the final 2k last night I had to bargain with myself- finish the run strongly and I got to have a milkshake.
Am I demented or do others do this?
I do this, that doesn't mean you're not demented though.

I 'm actually pretty good at running mid/forefoot without heel striking. am sure my technique is pretty sloppy compared to what it used to be but i generally run on the balls of my feet.
