Although I often receive late night phone calls from Smallfurry's virtual partner, who has been left virtually bereft at the animosity shown to it.

I've not used the virtual partner other than trying it one in the past years - I see no value in it above intervals and lap times.
My right hand is my virtual partner.

I tried when my 405 was new and shiny but didn't really like it. Stopping for traffic really confused it. My actual partner is a better training aid as she asks if i want to go for a run and calls me a lazy arse if I say no!

My virtual partner wont sleep with me anymore. Then complains that I spend all my time, out riding bicycles, instead of painting the house............
.....wait which thread is this?

Run home was slooooow. Got there eventually though.
My legs hurt.

go easy, don't break yourself. better to run a few days a week than blowing up and be stuck on the tube / bus

^ this. I've mentioned the 10% rule in this thread before: increase weekly milage by no more than 10% per week if you're going into new territory.

^^
I'm super happy with my Skora Base shoes. Not completely flat and slightly less garish than the newtons..Looking around these look good. I like the lightweight design and 13mm stack. I've been using a combination of Asics DS Racer and Asics Kayano for the road (plus 3 pairs of trail shoes). I like to have a selection of shoes for the same reason I like a selection of bikes. I can mix things up, and always have the best tool for a given run/ride.
My kayanos feel too structured now. I've always used 'structured cushioning' shoes in the past. But over the last year I've much preferred my more flexible DS Racers. So My plan is to go with a combination of a low and light long distance shoe (mizuno wave inspire I think), and a near 'barefoot' style short distance shoe.
TLDR. Any more to add re your Skora Base shoes?

I don't have the attention span for that. If I don't make running the whole way part of my routine now I'll get tired of pissing around with public transport and start commuting by boat or something. You can say you told me so when I break.
I might have to give up soon though because despite stretching at every available opportunity my entire body has stiffened up like a corpse and I am struggling with basic movements.

Don't worry, the 10% rule is bollocks and should be ignored.

Rosie don't you have a brompton? cant you cycle in, run home, run in the next day, cycle home etc.

You're going to injure yourself with that sort of mileage increase. Or just that sort of mileage, full stop.
If you can maintain it, though, you will win the entire running thread.

• #6191
Commuting by boat sounds great, you should do that.

She's tough but that's a big fuck off 'IF'. Soooo much more chance of injury running big miles compared to cycling. I know from having to pay the physio bills after doing an off-the-cuff 26k once upon a time.

It's a rule of thumb, not a rule ya douchebags.

I'm doing a version of the 10% rule - I'm doing 10% of the running I should be. Getting hit by a bus is not conducive to training for the marathon.

I totally misread that and thought you said you'd had a £26k physio bill. Now I've realised that's not the case, I'm back in the game!
When I started my 50 mile a day (bike) commute my manager made a bet that I wouldn't make it through the first week and was forced to buy everyone in the office donuts when I did. This is basically the same, right? There will be donuts?

hats is now my race-nemesis. I'll be doing my solid best to mess up her training so I can beat her.

that bus driving course has paid for itself already.
