I get a pain after about 10k on tarmac. Below the knee on the lateral of the tibia.
It has no affect on range of movement and it disappears after a day of rest.I've roller'ed the hell out of my legs and I'm going to really make an effort with more of a fore/midfoot strike , but are there any specific stretches and exercises I can do to strengthen that area? I'll be doing my longer runs on the beach instead of tarmac in prep for my half-mara in 2 weeks time.

Just run 5k, foot still hurts, going to have to bin off the marathon..
Forerunner 10 is brilliant, picks up at elites really quickly and is simple but displays all the info you could want for a normal run or jog.

That's rubbish news Ed, hope you get it sorted.

I'm kind of intrigued by the Dalsnibba duathlon. Trying to get back into running. Could be a good target.
-
• #5956
I really enjoyed it, it's my biggest target for next year.
It means I have to do a lot of running between now and then, but I find running in the rain/bitter cold significantly less miserable than cycling in the same conditions.

@pifko you never told me youre up to half mara distance. Props
Helz advice is adducution.thereband or old inner tube tied to table leg and ankle, away from centreline, then with straight leg bring back over centreline against resistance.repeat.
Oh.and swim more. Sorts us out on zero impact leg work.oh.ride your bike more.in fact do a triathlon weekly.
Kidding good luck with training see you tuesday. -

Dropped my 5km Parkrun PB by another 20 seconds today.. now officially in the 20 minute somthing club. Might transfer over to dulwich which is pan flat and have a crack at doing a sub 20 but don't want to push it and pickup an injury like every other year.
Running is a hell of alot more fun when your improving and moving fast!

I got my email today, been honoured with selection for the Piece of String. The deal is that you turn up and they give you a map and tell you to start running. When you get back they give you another map and tell you where to go next. You never know how far you are going or when they will let you stop until they finally tell you you're finished.
Last year's turned out to be c.130 miles, we'll find out in a few months how long this year's episode is, could be 100 metres, could be 300 miles:
Dear Valued Idiot.
There has been a problem with your email account. Someone has accessed your account and has been impersonating you without your knowledge.
You are now a member of the Justin Blieber preservation society, your hair products will be in the mail shortly.
You are now a proud sponsor of Henry the Tortoise and you have generously offered to subscribe to the “millionaire” adoption package where Henry will be fed nothing but caviar and have personal shell massage every day for all his remaining years.
All 400 of them.
You have just now emailed your boss and said you have to quit because you find his style of micromanagement and strong body odour strangely erotic and you find it hard to be around him now without dreaming of running away together to Romford.
But if he feels the same then you’ll meet him in the boardroom at 8am on Monday.
And your Morris dancing outfit (size XS) will be delivered early next week in time for your first lesson on Friday.
But these are the least of your problems.
You registered your interest in the Piece of String race. A race so pointless it has sometimes been referred to as the “Nick Clegg” of races. A race so miserable that Coldplay couldn’t bring themselves to write a song about it as they were concerned it would cause a mass suicide. A race so stupid that when Forrest Gump came to visit he felt it appropriate to wear a t-shirt with “I’m with stupid” when sat next to one of the competitors.
And at 10am on FRIDAY the 29th November you’ll be at the start line taking part.
You really should be more diligent with your personal data. And book the week off of work.
Location: Morell Room Streatley. RG8 9HT.
All other details to follow but plan on having one bag that acts as a drop bag for many many many points on the course, and one finish line bag.
SO now you have a few months to prepare for the World’s most pointless race. I’d love to give you some advice on how to prepare for it however no one has any idea what you’ll be doing when the time comes.
Let’s just hope that Henry lives long enough to see you finish.
Kind Disregards.
The Piece of String Team.
Fuck yeah!

11k today, with left calf sore all the way through, and after. Painful to cycle on when you push off. Haven't been swimming or cycling much lately, only done my running, so maybe some cross fitness is gone.
Could a massage help?
-
• #5965
^ Stretches before massage?
-
• #5966
Doing them daily, + before and after the run. I've had sore calfs after my last three runs, so it could be due to lack of exercise the two weeks before, and the lack of other kind of exercise the last three weeks. Skint so will see how it goes next weekend, fingers crossed they'll htfu and get on with it

Are your trainers worn out?
-
• #5968
Wouldn't think so. They've done 280km running + say 50km walking, mostly on paths / grass, so should still be good for another 200k or so?
-
• #5969
ok, just ruling out the obvious.
Wear does depend on trainers, extreme example being Nike Mayfly with their 100km lifespan...
-
• #5970
didn't know that. I run in Brooks Adrenaline's, a quick google says they should last 500km+ so shouldn't be that. Gonna try and get swim in this week see if it looses things up.

Very much this.

Not so much this.
I'm upping my running kms. The new toy is helping me focus on this. But the run wont be fun.
Did 6 km last night. Not far, and not fast. But it felt easy, and my legs felt nice and strong. Just need to turn things up without breaking anything.

Are your trainers worn out?
Mine have done a bit over the recommended amount.
Plus I'm heavy and hard on shoes.
I've been ignoring this, and avioding hard heel strike. But I'm going to have to open the purse strings soon.

Thinking about it, now's a good time to get cracking with a more natural running shoe, and slowly ease it in right in time for the Brooks to pack it in

By "support" you mean "run with you to help you navigate" surely? ;)
My training climb goes from 25ft to 500ft over 2 miles.
Theres a steep trail down from the top.
I run 2.5 miles from house to the base, up the climb, down the trail, back up the climb, and end at my in-laws. Less time at the in-laws is excellent motivation for the second loop ;)
This is a ride on the SS 29er from my house to the top.
