  • Anyone doing the Royal Parks half marathon?

    http://royalparkshalf.com/

A few people at work are doing it, someone has dropped out and I've said I'll have a go in their place.

I can ride a bike for 7 hours so should be able to run for 2, right?

Plus I've got 3 weeks to train. What can possibly go wrong?

  • Run to the beat done 1:57:34. Brap!

Nicely done. You beat my PB by a minute, you swine!

I'm doing the Great North Run this weekend but if I get within 15 minutes of my PB I'll be amazed. Jogging it slowly and soaking in the atmosphere is the order of the day. I've been offered a last-minute place in Royal Parks so might do that... We'll see.

  • I am doing Royal Parks too but I've the feeling it will be another busy one. It's exactly 2 weeks before Amsterdam Marathon so the goal is just to take it easy and have fun.

I would like to try my first ultra in 2014 and I was looking at the options for a beginners friendly 50 miler. Does anyone have a suggestion to spare? I am tempted by SDW50 or NDW50 since they're not far and I roughly know the areas. It seems like the organization is good too and some here mentioned it already in this thread.

  • If anyone wants to offer me a place on Royal Parks I'm all ears!
Sorry for beating your pb Sparky, if it's any consolation the course was dead flat all the way which probably helped me a lot.

Mine was set at Race Your Pace, which offers the best possible environment for a PB, at the expense of fun and soul: flat course, pacers for loads of times, lots of feed stations... So I can't blame that.

My work is a sponsor of RPHM I think, or was last year, and we have a team. But some have dropped out. If I can afford the cash and have the time I'll do it. I imagine you have to be staff, otherwise I'd try and bring you in, Ed.

  • Anyone fancy Henley half on oct 13th?
Will be driving out if I do it so will be space in the car if anyone wants to come along?

  • I might be up for them henley half if my foot is better and I stop eating myself silly as a result of being depressed about my broken foot...

  • I've just signed up for it, let me know if you get sorted and fancy it.
Might scrawl 'lfgss running club' on a vest in sharpie to troll the running crowd.

  • Doing Bristol half on sun thanks to Zazkar. I am excite.

See you up there. Got roped into doing it at a BBQ the other week. not massively looking forward to it.

  • You and me both, buddy.

    ;)

  • My running is slowly improving but this is normally when I pickup injury and loose all my gains.

Realistically for an amature heavy footed runner what is the maximum milage I can push for day in / day out training?

I have a 7km run to work that I try 4 days a week.. is this too much?
Averaged 12.5kph this morning.. but for the distance aiming to get back to 13kph

Might be interested in the henley half for something to build too.

  • Just signed up for a 10k in Wimbledon Park, October 6th. AVVIT!

Good luck today dude, conditions look good (if London weather is anything to go by)

  • Bristol done. Way more pleasant than run to the beat. Was faster than last week according to strava but will wait til I get my official time before feeling smug.
Many many thanks again to Zazkar for the place.

  • Ooh, lummy, the Great North Run is hilly, isn't it?

Still, a woman gave me an ice cream on the route. Then another gave me a biscuit. Top notch.

  • Looked windy on the telly. Sounds like you enjoyed your run.

I enjoyed the first 8 miles, then it was GRIM. That's what not training does. Bloody ace event though. Crowds are amazing.

  • Apart from the fat kid that wanted a high five. I went out of my way to give him one, then he pulled his hand away and said "psyche" (like in that Ant 'n' Dec song). I wanted to pick him up and carry him all the way to the coast, just so I could throw him in the sea. Good job I was tired.

  • I went for a jog on Saturday morning (to call it running is probably an exaggeration), turns out there's a park run in nonsuchpark... I didn't realise park runs were every week either... Might try and make it a regular thing.

  • Well done Sparky, it sounded pretty grim weather-wise by all accounts! Anyone who 'psyched' someone running deserves a slap, especially if they're fat. I high fived some dude dressed as Shrek who was running the other way at some point, got a handful of green paint..
Official time was 1:53:07 so knocked just over 4mins off of last weeks time. Pretty chuffed, but my feet are now a bloody mess...
Got some Skora's en-route so hopefully my toes won't get mushed like they are in my 5:10's

  • I'm now officially going crazy, I haven't run in over a week, it sucks...

Well done ed and sparky enjoy it!

  • Dose yourself with weed/alcohol/neurofen and come to Henley on the 13th. You'll be fine!
Lfgss running club ftw. My little pony vests?

  • ^^ It does suck. Massively sucks. I even dreamed I was running last night.

Strangely, having been on my feet all weekend while decorating and walking to and from homebase several times, my hip feels better. Still two weeks before Ealing, gonna see how it goes and make a last minute call. Could be fun having only run one 5k in the previous six weeks.

    Yes.
