  • Coiled spring, marathoners, coiled spring!

That's what our coach used to say in the week running up to a big event.

  • Right, for people who've done this before, how early should one arrive at the start. I usually er on the side of cautious, but don't want to be standing around for hours before a 3+ hour run!

  • Good luck to all those taking part tomorrow. Im going to be cheering at Mile 21. Hopefully it will be a great day.

  • Good luck today, marathoners (branwen, eyebrows, ed - plus anyone else!). Lovely day for it :)

I'm at mile 13.5 if anyone wants to come down and cheer.

  • Well done team lfgss. You all rock!!!!

  • Tim, good to meet you today, I got to 20 miles and decided I was enjoying the atmosphere to dig deep and get a pb, so just chilled and thoroughly enjoyed the different accents, music and supporting styles across london! From 22 miles it was nuts, I had music in but couldn't hear it!

Haven't seen any fatality reports and fingers crossed there weren't any but there were a lot of people on the deck from about 18 miles onwards, fingers crossed they had some water etc and were right as rain!

  • Ah, sweet! I really suffered on the last mile - took almost 9 min :(
And the 800m to go .... took forever. I think having done that, I'd like to train properly and then enjoy the event more on the day. Good fun though!

  • What a lovely day for a run. Congrats to all that took part. I have lost my voice after spending 3 hrs giving random people encouragement.

  • There was just awesome, incredible, moving support the whole way round. It was amazing! Such a wonderful day.

  • What was your time Henners?

  • Also shelter were incredible. Definitely an amazing support base and just brilliant. And the massage!!!!!

  • Branwen and Eyebrows, you monsters! Well done!! I wasn't expecting to see you so soon at the half way point, a super pleasant surprise.

I don't suppose the chap with the blue campag cap is one of our lot?

  • @ dammit- 3:05. Not displeased, but I felt like I should've pushed a bit more so I could stop having to run these things!
@hats sorry for not being able to meet you at the reception- a friend ended up in the med tent and we spent a frantic hour or so trying to find him.
He's fine thoug- and finished- just needed a drip...

  • ^^Not sure. I saw a Brooklyn cap a bit after half way, but was not DAS'ed, so who knows. Incidentally I did get one DAS shouted at me, apart from Ed, which was pretty cool.

Also, H, thanks for the awesome bearhug at the end! I felt pretty dead at that point and you boosted me no end!

Anddd, hats, now that you've stopped working for shelter, I assume that we'll actually see you running next year?

  • Longest run ever this weekend, 165 miles in 48 hrs on a treadmill in the Life Centre in Plymouth.

    nuttter!

was out for a 5k this avvo,...

can feels calves beginning to tighten up again now. jumped straight into a hot bath when i got home for a long soak but not sure best way to keep them from being too tight to ride in tomorrow. anyone got any tips?

    stretch. and stretch. and stretch!

    @ dammit- 3:05.

    superb run H, I'm jealous!

I'm aiming for sub 4h at berlin later this year

  • Went to watch the marathon today. Amazing atmosphere. Amazing. Desperate to run it now.

  • Eyebrows, sorry to hear about your friend! But glad to hear he's alright.

Branwen, although I was inspired by the running today I haven't actually lost my mind. I will never be a marathon runner.

Sparky, +1 on the atmosphere. For the third year in a row I had a sneaky cry as it was all so magical and often very moving.

  • If anyone wants atmosphere, the first couple of miles out of Greenwich were probably the highlight IMO, lots of sound systems/bands etc., some epic drumming.

But you really need to be running the course to appreciate it all ;)

I know what you mean. I got a bit emotional doing my first marathon, and there were moments today too. I was near the finish line when a couple were being interviewed by the commentator - he'd crossed the line with his girlfriend, then immediately got on one knee and popped the question. I had something in my eye...

    KEEP MOVING YOU MUPPE...oh!

  • Well done joggers! Saw a forum cap at about 16miles an DASed, but you were on the other side of the road so I don't think you heard.

Lots of fun rushing around supporting!

Was that just before a tunnel? I heard, but it took a couple of seconds to filter through and then respond, I thought I did turn and wave though?

  • Watched yesterday around mile 22. Awesome, amazing day.
My eldest managed to spot his Dad, which was emotional.
Seeing the determination on faces, with 4 miles to go, inspirational.
    Weldone all.
    :)

  • Legs are pretty torn up today, cycling is fine, but stairs are a. B@stard!!

Looking forward to signing up on monday for next year!

Now to get some tris in the diary for the summer and an autum marathon to try and make up for yesterdays slightly dissapointing time!

  • Big hat to all the marathoners. It continues to boggle my mind how you all get though it. So far beyond my comprehension.

In a bid to not die on my first olympic distance tri in September I've just completed my first (hilly, almost)10k. Waterloo station to the top of Forest Hill via Camberwell Grove. Time was pitiful and my form and speed were laughable by the end. In the context of all the marathon amazingness I realise it's a tiny and rather pathetic achievement.... but I'm rather chuffed with myself. Shattered. Going to lie down now.
