dude, its the first thing i say to people. proper shoes make a big difference.
in other news i'm racing my 2nd 5000m on the track tomorrow. after my slowest ever 5k last week in 16.54, but just had to finish. this season has been a nightmare, was looking for low 15mins a few months ago, but after a torn calf, virus/throat infection and another throat infection; its about just running.

bloody hell that is quick. the one 5k event i ever did was about 24 minutes of hellishness. one of the early finishers sneered to his mate as i came up to the line "well done, just after the last woman"... it didnt make me feel too special. reckon i could probably do about 20 mins now. the best bit being that i wouldnt hurt for the next 5 days anymore and i would actually enjoy it..
hope it goes well tomorrow. let us know how it went eh?

@ dogsballs..... bugger that's good. I've stopped timing myself these days on my runs as it seems to keep down the injuries, but I couldn't do that sort of time without a rocket up my arse.... and on many occassions people have told me that's what I need....

this also looks awesome. i thought to myself yea next year, then i saw how much it costs. eeesh, im out.
This is a cheap one, the MDS costs 3 grand and there is a 2 year waiting list!
I'm back, I finished, and next year I'll be quicker. Not as many blisters as I was expecting, must try harder...

So trying to decide what spring marathon to do next year, did Prague last year, I was on to do brighton this year but my daughter was born that week so didn't do it.
Paris appeals, anyone here done it?
I would prefer one where I didn't have to promise to raise money.

I was in Klagenfurt a couple of years ago and watched the Ironman - total respect for those doing it. The lake's (Wörthersee) is gorgeous, totally gorgeous, so try to make sure you don't just fly in and out, and have a relax and more gentle swim/cycle in the area when it's all over. Gustav Mahler had a place over looking the lake and composed some of his best stuff there.
I can also recommend a couple of good cake shops in the town centre for the day after too ;-)

kicking myself, just stumbled upon this thread - did anyone run the Standard Chartered 5K last Thursday? It's great running around the city in the evening and I managed to shave 2 minutes of my previous best - great spinoff from my last 4 months off bike commuting. Unfortunately that still brings me in at just over the 23 minute mark - pedestrian compared to some of the peeps here, but will continue working on it. Is there an LFGSS bike/run day? Cheers

Sweet! That was the plan...spent 5 days in St Polten, Austria a couple months ago doing the Half Ironman just to get the entry voucher for next year. Awesome place. Loved Vienna too!
Hopefully will be out there for 3 days before and 3 after. Would be rude not too!!

would love to build myself up to an ironman but would have to essentially start the swimming from scratch, which I can't see ever happening.
Will have a look at boston and shakespeare marathon, both look good options

Blimey that looks brutal, trail running takes so much more out of you than on the road, but it is a tonne more interesting

Grrrr fucking meetings fucking up my running training this week, all dayers tomorrow and Friday so in order to have my bike for dunwich on Saturday I'm going to have to cycle home tonight instead of running.
BORING

for me a hour off road is way easier than on road. but then i mostly run on mtb singletrack that undulates but never crazy steep up down up down. and yea, much more interesting.

Running 10km now 3 times a week, fastest time so far is 41:47 (according to the pacer thingy).
Don't think I'll be able to clock a much faster time for quite a while, also going on holiday next week and won't be doing any running, anyone got tips on light training in a hot climate? -
• #498
not bad time at all. if you do a lot of walking/hiking you won't loose too much fitness. might even run better after, just by giving legs a break.
-
• #499
I can do walking on the beach, so that might be a goer. That time was flat out at 06:30 am on a Sunday, no booze on Saturday does help in this case. Could walk for at least an hour a day, no real effort there.
7 weeks of regular runs and still not losing weight, disappointed. -

your body is still adjusting, probably putting on muscle and losing fat, but weight stays the same. you'll need to vary training from now on ie one slightly shorter, another longer, or change pace ie tempo or fartlek.
you will loose weight walking over an hour a day (if you eat sensibly)
i'm off running till i get some new (properly fitted) shoes. after three lunchtime/after work runs a week for the the last three weeks my knee caps feel like they've come adrift . any slight twist of the knee makes me feel like my legs are going to crack/snap in half. not painful exactly but very uncomfortable and quite disconcerting. i'm cycling (gently) and swimming till i feel like by ligaments and bones have re-connectd themselves properly. then new shoes.
