Are you following a plan? I'm supposed to have started an 18 week plan for Brighton, but the predicted pace for the long runs is intimidating the shit out of me, and I'm fairly sure that it is wrong, given that it is almost at race pace for a 3:40

Look at me, am I the new bumbag?!
I ran with a bumbag the other day - I felt like a bit of a plonker. It was a proper triathlodouche one, too. Then again, I needed a phone on me, because Cornwall was dark and shit, and running down 1 in 4 and 1 in 3 hills that had turned into rivers meant that going over on an ankle 10k from home was a real possibility.
It did mean that I could loop the dog leash onto it though - That made things a whole heap easier.

It's my own plan, I'm a bit behind at the moment hence doing a 20k and 30k in a week.
Back on track now for a 10k at 4 min 15 km on Tuesday and Thursday a treadmill interval session on Wednesday, 5min 30km 10k on Friday and then a long run on saturday.
I've got one of those funny water bottle holding bum bags, I can't stand it but it is useull for situations like that^

My first run of the new year. 46.48 for an 8k around Lloyd Park, Croydon. I'm surprisingly shattered!
More running, less cycling...........

After quite a hiatus (wedding, surgery, laziness) I did a couple of 2 milers back in N.I. (on Boxing Day and the 27th - spot the guilt). Went out this evening with the intention of doing a couple of laps of the block but felt good so kept going. Did my 5k loop which goes over Denmark Hill and then an extra small loop when I got back to the flat.

Not quick by any means but I'm pretty happy with it.

I'm slightly nervous of playing the amateur physio/doctor with my GF, but she's suffering knee pain.
My first guess is that it's "runner's knee": pain to the front of the knee just below and to the outside of the kneecap. Where are the best places to read up on realistic treatment, exercises and recovery (also what substitute training to do during recovery)? Google throws up millions of options but I'm struggling to sort the good advice from the crap.

After a drop in motivation over Xmas due to boring family stuff and excess food I'm very much now back on it :) 10k through the drizzle this morning was lovely.
More running, less cycling...........
Definitely. Having not cycled since 3 months ago I decided to dust off the bike on New Years Day. It was cold, there were endless bank holiday queues of cars and it was a bit boring. Not to mention faffing about with clothes/equipment/maintenance. Fuck it.

Having been awake since 8am, I'm only now convincing my aching body that a short run this morning is a good thing. Small coffee first.
Edited to add: I did go for the run. Thought I'd missed my clubmates but caught up with them and managed a (for me) respectable 6.41 miles in 55:34 minutes. I think that qualifies me for a fry-up and a few cups of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee!
Stretch......

Despite managing to run three times over the holiday (including xmas day and new year's day which were both great, especially the latter cos it was a beautiful morning in the Dales) I'm back in London and discovered on Friday I've lost 30 secs/mile from my pace over the usual 5k route. This is shit.
Couldn't motivate myself to make the Regent's Park 10k this morning (last chance of a lie-in before back at work tomorrow), but determined to get out sometime today.
In other news, I was having a look at potential half marathons and discovered there's an East London one, April 14th starting from West Ham Park. I've entered, thought others might be interested.

Did the Kent County XC Champs yesterday, 13k or so. Did 70 miles on the bike beforehand, and reached the course as a few hundred runners galloped off into the distance. After getting changed, I started 5mins after everyone else and it was almost halfway before I caught anyone. Finally caught an old boy from my club, and paced him through to a decent finish for him. Bonking and sick at the end, having idiotically only eaten a banana and half a flapjack all day.
Not my finest hour.

hmm, you knows how to do it though right, food tends to be handy at right intervals
just done Humbly and Weston common 7.1 k flag chasing in 57.52 with a 2 k run to start/ finish so I make that 11k which means massive cake input after swim and sauna to sort the legs out next.

^^ That's just stupid. Stupid and impressive.
I walked from my door to the gate, and then ran 5k. Didn't bonk or feel sick. Go me.

Went to Runners Need yesterday to get some new trainers to hopefully stop me ruining my groin / hip, and it turns out I mildly over-pronate, so was reccommended some Brooks Ravenna 3s, which I managed to pick up for just under £50 (half price). Really hope they help a bit. Felt really nice on my foot and don't look too stupid, which some running shoes can in my opinion.
I heel strike pretty hard too, but that probably has nowt to do with these recurring injuries.
Now just need to shake off the current groin strain or whatever it is, has been lingering for ages and is doing my head in....

So, what about this 2013 plans? Any races booked yet?
As for me I'll try not to survive 3 marathons in 5 months between June and October and 2 HMs just before as part of the training leading to the first.
On a related note, any HMs in summer not too far from London worth checking out?

I would just try and ease off the milage for a few weeks. Running a distance of 8-9 miles after starting running 3-4 months ago is quite high in my opinion.
10min run in new Flex this evening(was straight after a 1hr workout hence being so short).
Found my stride to be much shorter than in the clumpy trail shoes I normally use, feet feel a bit achy but I'm putting that down to new shoes and the more barefoot-esque ride of the Flex's.
Will go for a proper run tomorrow so I can get a better opinion of them. Want to work towards barefoot(well, vibrams etc) running later in the year so this seems like a good starting point.
