  • I wish all I needed were minimal trail shoes and all I had to run on were the Pennines.
Alas, London living inevitably means running on tarmac.

It's worth noting that this injury is entirely self inflicted and I haven't had any knee problems whilst actually running or caused by running this year. My original concerns seem to have been misplaced.

But I stress more that you should alter your route to circle your home a few times

I think it was you who gave me this advice when I was going to start running, it's served me well.

I smacked my right knee up pretty bad climbing a steel ladder. The same week I sent a 1kg wood splitting chisel into my left shin at high speed, chopping wood.

The next week I travelled to germany for a work asigment, and out of habit brought my running gear. Went for a run and felt OK, so kept going. When I eventually turned around, I realised my gait was all messed up because the reduced motion in each leg. Arrived back at the hotel in a lot of pain.

If i'd followed my own advice, I could have headed back at the first sign of discomfort, and not screwed my legs up.

Unfortunately I'm not half as clever in real life, as I pretend to be on the interwebs.

  • I saw a chap running in what Google tells me was a Nike Vapor Flash jacket the other day, and have wanted one since then.

However, it would appear that Nike no longer make them- can anyone recommend an equivalent?

  • ^ have requested one for xmas from my secret source of nike products.

Fingers crossed on was procured before they ran out as they are amazingly reflective!

My sister was standing in the windowless hall way of my flat and it was finding some light from somewhere to look like that!

And no I can't get you one before you ask!(As people frequently do via pm)

  • Apparently they were what the usa team medal jackets were at the olympics - might be another line of inquiry!?

  • I'm not an XXL sadly

  • It was -3C out on the yorkshire Dales today. Fun was had none-the-less. I got lost in the fog and my 6 miler turned into a 10 miler!

Ironman in August, full programme begins in January. Bring it the fuck on.

  • With flash turned on:

  • Love that ceiling

Hey, I may be able to get you one but they're not cheap (about £200 new). Let me know if you want one.

  • You a hi-viz running nodder now?

  • I'm a runner with a very high albedo

  • went for a run with Holly (dog) yesterday she trotted round Richmond park in just under 55 minutes, so that's 7.2 miles which you need to remember involved stopping to say hello to multiple dogs, having to stop at every road and me to fumble to put on/take off her lead and a couple of toilet breaks is amazing considering she is 1 years old!

  • just entered some cool shit to do in the winter,
    military challenge 22 nd
    pilgrims way 29th
keep those mince pies moving through the system
Pifko did you do the Boscombe 5k friday? how dya do?

  • Why am I getting slower?

  • I think I'm going to do the pilgrim too. The xnrg one? Could you please remind me when/how much it is? (checking ibterwebs on phone abroad is proving somewhat slow)

  • ^^ ageing?

  • I've been runing in my Rapha softshell lately. I figured, it's breathable, well fitted, soft, showerproof, big pit zips and plenty of pockets for keys wallet etc.

I was only using it for occasional weekend rides in winter so it wasn't getting much use as was, and means I didn't have to spend out on a running jacket. I've got to the point where more shit cluttering up the place is the last thing I want.

    Works really well for me.

  • wishes my gore softshell had pit zips...

  • Awesome, exactly what I was after - Thank you!

I'll see if I can afford both days of the Pilgrim Challenge... I did one day last year and it was a lovely course (and beautiful weather on the first day). Highly recommended!

  • I'm looking to get some nike pegasus (had gait looked at, etc) as an first shoe into longer running (more than 5k but probably not marathon mileage). I was wondering whether to go for the shield or regular version. anyone recommend one over the other??

  • Shield has a bit of hi-viz and water resistant materials on it I think, which would obviously be more suited for running at this time of the year.

  • definite pros but heard them getting too hot for people's feet too, so weighing up pros and cons
