  • ^ is that deeper than lobster?

^^^^^ all was relaxed here until a Status Quo / Scooter mashup was forced upon us...

  • Well, this should cheer you up- I managed to turn my arms, neck, and the top of my chest the exact same colour as a fire engine.
I was sensible and used sunscreen.

Admittedly, I can't see any more, as sunscreen, sweat and eyeballs aren't a good mix.

It's an order of magnitude beyond lobster.

I should probably be having grafts right now.

Oof, no shower or bath for a few days then...

  • I was considering going swimming in the Lido- according to their Twitter feed the pool is 21.6 degrees- I reckon my shoulders could get that to say 27 degrees after 20 minutes of swimming

  • 16.5 miles along the Thames done. Faded pretty badly the last 1.5 due to heat and plummeting motivation. Now all I need to do is eat pizza and sit in the shade :)

  • Out at 8am for a 6 mile slow run. Even at that hour the heat was lovely for walking but not so much for running. However, I wasn't about to complain.

Now trying to cool down enough to cycle over to Wembley and back.

  • Went for a run this morning, 4 laps of Highbury Fields, came back and felt horrid.
I don't deal that well with the heat.

I'm really missing being by the sea in this weather.

  • I've also noticed twinges in my tibialis anterior, not so much from running, but from the few rides I've done on my new road bike. Should I be looking at specific stretches for this?

  • Where did that rain come from? Pizza's nearly cooked and now I can't sit outside!!!

What route? I've been running on the South bank to Battersea and the North bank to Tower Bridge.

  • I actually much prefer running in the heat. Don't know how I would feel after two hours though.

It got to a point yesterday where I actually started to feel cold. Probably just heart failure or something.

  • Home->Vauxhall->Battersea Park->Wandsworth Park->Putney->Almost to Hammersmith Bridge, then back.

  • Is there a nice way to get from Vauxhall to Battersea? It's a bit of a shitty run by the road, the way I go.

  • Not really, unless you can go thru Battersea Pk, depends whereabouts you're going.

Doing an ironman on a fixie, you may be surprised to know, is quite difficult. Quads were already burning by the time I got to the mara at about 3am. Bumped into a friend who was winning the race, and started running with him for the first 7km (a bit silly as he was doing 3.10 mara pace). First half felt really good, but started being sick just after halfway, and couldn't keep anything down to replenish so slowed right down. Bit of a struggle to the end in 4.30ish.

Such a hot night - felt weird to be pouring water over yourself in the middle of the wee small hours to cool down, but it was necessary.

  • ^^ cross over the river on vx bridge and run along the north bank.

Ran a lap of Richmond park with holly today, she did really well, two breaks and then she couldn't resist going for a swim in the water by the golf course. Shes shattered now, keeps flopping down everywhere in the house but wants to be in the same room as me as much as possible!

  • Yep, cross Vauxhall to the N side of the river before returning to civilisation over Chelsea bridge.

  • @Ed- that is how i feel now. I ran through the fountain at Oval crossroads to cool off on the way back. Minus the being in the same room thing, obvs.

And an ironman fixed?!?! You are a brave/foolish man, knightlancer!

  • FYI holly is a dog

  • That's a horrible thing to call someone.

Rep to KL btw. Good effort, particularly in this weather, even if it was at night.

  • Also forgot to mention that we were running the opposite direction to Jo Pavey. Not sure whether to start a running 'spotted' thread or not ;)

  • He's running (ba-dum-tish!) http://www.invisibleshoe.com/, anyone tried them?

  • Loving running this week, that is all

  • I used to be a runner. I ran the London Marathon 2010 and the Bath Half Marathon either side of it. The second time I ran the half I picked up a knee injury that has prevented me from running for the past year and a half (it's the reason I started cycling).

I went to a physio for the first time yesterday evening. I'm so excited at the prospect of running again. My goal is to someday run the London Marathon again, and this time get sub 4 hours (4:04:11 the first time, so close!)

This is just a gentle reminder to everyone to appreciate each and every injury-free stride you take.
