  • ^^ chapeau for taking them out.

Good on you for taking them out.

Ha! I wouldn't say I'm taking them out! I've not been on a run for over a year! But obviously the cycling I do means I've got a bit more cardio fitness than them. I'm happy they are starting at such a slow pace, but I am intending to go out on my own a bit so I can go at a slightly faster pace... But still not to the level of most of the regular posters in this thread!

It's funny because I used to run with a girl who said I sounded like a rapist when I run because of my panting... I now know what she was talking about! (except the rapist is a petit Spanish girl!)

How the hell did she know ?

    Tres funny.

  • I was thinking of doing running, any tips?

  • Put one foot in front the other, as quickly as you can, for as long as you can.

  • Cool, what should I wear? I've got brogues and a cloth cap, just need shorts and a sweater.

  • Mortons Neuroma being removed later this month (if my director ok's it), after that I will be back to running.

  • I think I've got their second album somewhere

  • Put one foot in front the other, as quickly as you can, for as long as you can.

I disagree with the quickly thing, the hardest thing for me is pacing myself... Put one foot in front of the other at about twice walking speed, if you can still hold a conversation then you might be able to go faster but as soon as your breathing stops you being able to say a whole sentence you should slow down a little... Until you get to the last half a mile or so when you should go increasingly fast until you are sprinting.

Nick nack it was Leila who said i sound like a rapist...

Yeh i realised that.......... but how would she know ? Max ferraris ? ;)

  • 5k super slow lunchtime run. Rain then sun, wish it'd been the other way round.

  • Been a lazy man the last week so went out for a long run today, felt great so decided to carry on. Didn't have breakfast before so had to give up before my legs wanted, felt the energy drop very quickly by the end. Anyway, I was a happy man as a broke my distance record with 1km by doing 11km's. Or so I thought... came home and google mapped it... 10.3km... bah! longest ever, by 300m, not bad, but 1km would be better.

So, re-fuelling whilst running. What's good? gels? Mars bars? bananas?

  • 10k you don't need fuel, water will be more than enough.

Even lucozade say their product is recommended for moderate exercise lasting over 1 hour.

For runs over 2 hours then I use nakd bars

  • true, but I really enjoy heading out before breakfast, hence suffering a bit after 10k, think it'd be a different story if i ran in the afternoon

  • Ah... there you go... Fuel up before you head out.

I always feel rough if I train before breakfast. I do it the whole time (and actually think it has some [totally unscientific] benefits) but expect to feel shit.

If you must take something I'd suggest drinking energy drink during the run - work out what works for you by trial and error (some people don't get on with some brands). Up to 42km I tend to use gels, over that I alternate gels and flapjack/nutrigrains &c. but you have to train your stomach to be able to cope.

Fair enough, I often run before breakfast up to a half marathon so it is possible.

As Ewan says a drink is better generally as it mostly avoids gi upset, my stomach is so sensitive I can even manage manly energy drinks and go for the light versions just for a few calories but mostly water.

Give a few things a try but it's good to run on low energy of you're planning on going further as there is no way to replace alll the calories burned so eventually you'll end up running burning fat, mwhich takes some getting used to!

  • London is a bunch of sweaty perverts.

I forgot to pack my modesty overshorts for my run home this evening, and ran back in slightly clingy lycra (yes, I'm that guy).

The looks ranged from guilty snatched glances and furtive peaks, to at least one outright stare and giggle.

    I feel used.

  • Hmm. You weren't focussed enough on your running form/breathing/route if you noticed all that :-).

Pitiful running session last week so this week I've done slightly better even though I missed the club sessions. A short run on Monday and a 6 mile run to work yesterday morning. If tonight's drinks don't happen I might actually do hills instead!

  • Well the drinks happened. One drink and lots of chat.

This morning I thought I'd go and do those hills. I managed 5 of them, without collapsing, which probably means I did them slower than I thought, but that's ok. The homeward journey was slightly longer than usual as I took a different route then got into the groove and diverted a little more.

That probably means I'll take PT into central London later cos I'll feel tired but right now I'd like to ride there. No idea of total mileage as I deliberately didn't record it.

  • Running in Kenya is awesome. We live just outside of Nairobi, have massive hills, green fields and no cars to compete with on dirt/ rock tracks, at about 2000m.
Weather is generally about perfect for running- c. 20 degrees, usually sunny, some mist in the morning which is refreshing and a killer 10k circuit we've developed overtime to involve 3 hill climbs, and 4 long flat sections. Improvement already and legs just feel stronger and stronger.
    Love it.
Also everyone smiles and generally teases/ encourages/ laughs at you, which is great.

  • Since my last report I did a short club Sunday run which was good despite my aching, tired legs. I even managed the track sesson on Tuesday. Track cycling on the telly prevented me doing hills yesterday so I won't run again until Sunday morning.

    Slow progress, but still progress.

Eyebrows, I envy you your location. Sounds great.

  • Went out this morning to run-off a hangover. Hadn't run in about 6 or 8 weeks so expected to suffer but it was actually quite enjoyable. I was only out for half an hour but I think running an hour a day with the odd skipped day will be enough...

  • I went out for a short run before the Olympic marathon was broadcast. It was shorter than I'd originally planned because I was still knackered from my ride yesterday. Felt better for it though.

  • I ran a load of the marathon route yesterday - Tower Bridge to Battersea along the South bank, and then back on the North bank.

25k in the same time the girls took to run 42k.

  • Olympic marathon is one soft event. They didn't even have heats.

  • Yesterday ran up Mt. Longonot, then down to grab bags of others, then round the crater, then back down.
    Felt incredible....
