Nice work EEI.
Based on last Tuesday's run I'm aiming for 10k tomorrow evening.
The start of the route is based on last weeks unplanned effort, and give's me the option to cut it short should I need to.
I'll do the same as last week and record the data for perusal afterwards but I'm not going to use it to pace myself during the run itself as I'm trying to get a feel for what's comfortable.
Go for it!
I wish I was childless today. I'm so sleepy now, I'd love an early night (it will not happen).

Yesterday I ran just over 4k knees are not too bad today which I can cope with. As long as I keep on with the ibuprofen and stretching I can manage this distance every other day.
I've got somehow used to the pain. My only hope is that I'm not doing any more damage.
I think I will go to see an orthopedist privately when I visit my parents. The financial impotence (not incompetence) of my GP is truly depressing - he hates referring people to a specialist. -

if all goes well, my cast will come off today, meaning i can go for a run again for the first time in 6 weeks. f u c k y e s!

Out of interest, what did you do to your knees?
It all stems from a 500 mile cycle trip on an ill fitting bike. Fucking stupid in hindsight, but that's a beautiful thing isn't it.
Since then I've paid for a bike fit and the pain went until I upped my running routine. Looks like I may need in soles as my right knee cap points slightly inwards. I've got the number of a chap who lives near by who I'll go visit (he used to ride for team GB and is now a physio) who I think I'll go visit soon.
Otherwise I've visited the doctors and they can refer me to a physio but that could be anywhere between 6 and 8 weeks which is mad, but depending on the price of private I may have to wait.

Even if your told you've got to wait 6-8 weeks (like me) It's better than nothing isn't it!

5 miles into work and averaged 6min33second miles so a new pb, eating more food is clearly helping!
Just have to run the 6 miles home at 7min miles and the week wuill have started well!
Got a session in in a hyperbaric chamber on sunday, trying to work out what to do in there, think I'll run for a couple of hours before I arrive, do an hour on the treadmill in the chamber then see how I feel!

I've upped my "running" from standing on one leg for 20minutes to 10mins of 1min run/1min walk followed by weights (leg ext and leg curl 4x8reps each leg). Woot.

^^ why the chamber? Sounds interesting.

Have since discovered its called a hypoxic chamber
I'm using it because I've been offered a free session but have to do it on Sunday.
Essentially its the same as training at altitude, I'm not sure one session will have a huge effect, but at the same time it isn't going to hurt (apart from at the time) basically less oxygen in the room, cv system has to work harder to get the same results, theoretically would increaase heamoglobin count, but I think this is a gradual thing over time.
I'll use it once, I'm not going to pay £120 per month to use it though!

I will do it for £8 per session if you provide an orange and some stockings.

Isn't there a device currently on the market that restricts your breathing for you...
It seemed quite clever the last time I had a look.Me and the gf have signed up for a marathon and half marathon respectively at the end of the year.
I just bought her some new running shoes (she's a much better runner than I am) as our anniversary present.
Training from a 10k base will start at the end of March. -

The idea behind the one I remember was to reduce the amount you could pull in, so forcing you to breathe harder at any given effort, thus training the efficiency of the accessory breathing muscles.
I'm well away that a portable hypoxia device would be a challenge. -

This?
they've been around for years, one of the crews I used to row for got given a bunch for free... seemed pretty good but I never got into the habit of using regularly.

That's the one.
A Lightweight friend of mine had one, seemed sensible if a bit pricey. -
• #2943
I might dig mine out... it might help with my "standing on one leg" training regime.

just got in from my first run in 6 weeks. so good.
Didn't think and had half a bag of crisps just before I went, so got loads of stitches... had to stop and walk quite a few times.
anyway, it's good to be back!

I've found a number of 8 to 10 week run/walk type programs to introduce people to running and even though every part of me think I can do it quicker, I'm going to stick to the advice of others and see how I get on with an 8 week running introduction.
That's a problem running when you're already aerobically fit.. it's very easy to injure yourself as you can push yourself harder than sofa guy could. This applies moreso if you're also 95kg but your little bones and tendons and stuff need some care too.

50.17
Average 5.01min/KM (8.05min/miles)
Was annoyed to arrive at my door, check the distance and it be100 metres short, It would have been sub 50 if I hadn't stopped (time for the 9.9km lap was 49.26)
Still, I ran the distance without the minute walk breaks from last Tuesday. -

averaged 6min55sec all the way home, 6.5 miles.
think i'm going to try and target 7 min miles for my half marathon in a couple of weeks....
would obviously be pleased with my time, and don't think i can do any further than that, but it would be ace to go sub 1hr30

Pacing for a half marathon this weekend:
I'm running a 50 minute 10k at the moment (although I've not done this at race pace) - Various online pace calculators put me at a 1h 50m half.
I could aim for a 1h 50m to start off with, and then speed up if I feel up to it, or is it worth just aiming for a 1h 45m and be done with it?
i trust macmillan and that puts you at 1hr51 and change.
whats your half pb?
would always be tempted to go for it...
