So yesterdays run is exactly the same course as a run i did on 8th January so gives a pretty good comparison as to my fitness.
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/comparison?activityId=150683187&activityId2=139897760
hope this works, but i think there are some really good fundamental improvements, including running it 8 seconds a mile faster with an average heart rate 7bpm slower
And, despite it being making weight loss harder i burned a load less calories.
the ultimate aim is to be able to run the marathon sub 150bpm.

Good work! Yesterday's run seems more consistent too, as your fastest pace was slower, but your overall time was quicker/ ave pace faster. My heart rate is still way higher than I'd like for my long runs, in the 160's. Runs feel so good when running at an ave hr of 140-150 bpm, knowing you can turn it up if necessary.

Doing well ED.
Stay injury free you'll rock it.
On way to Dartmoor its a beautiful day gonna be ace on the hill. -
• #2905
hmmm yes staying injury free!
i've been trying to do as much flexibility work as possible, been using foam rollers as well which is unpleasant but seems to help!

Did the Brighton Half today. Trained hard to go sub 1:40 and missed it by three seconds. Turns out they measured the course wrong and it's actually 13.5 miles not 13.1. Gutted.

• #2907
Bad luck, but at least you know you did sub 1.40
^ that sounds sarcastic reading it back. But it isn't meant to
-
• #2908
It's not that important really. What people want to know is whether you did a radcliffe?
-
• #2909
Yes, but it's a bit like saying you've set a world record in training. It doesn't count.
Kris, it was a close call. The toilet facilities were oversubscribed. But: Poor Paula. Our greatest distance runner, still holder of the women's marathon record, and all people want to talk about is shit down her leg.

training for the manchester marathon, longest run so far has been a half - fastest being 1.38, longest being 1.55. think im going to join a gym soon, just for a couple of months so that i can take some pressure of my knees, which are pretty beat. im having to run with a brace on each one, although my right is the most troublesome one.

I blame Murdoch.

Went running with my flatmate this evening around highbury fields,I'm trying to help him get in shape (not that I am by any means 'in shape') but it did make me realise that as I cycle to work every day, run 3-4 times a week, play football twice a week, boxercise and work out at home that I probably am not that bad.
I carried on and I think I'm close to being back at 4minute km's on the road for 10km. Thinking of having a serious March in terms of eating/drinking and seeing if I can keep this over half marathon distance...

I am disapoint.
Well off the pace today after last weekends flu.
Just nothing in the tank.
Still navigated well and enjoyed the moor but sloooow.
Ah well another race next weekend. -

Really though, in long distance events you're only racing against yourself unless you're in the top ten so if they genuinely fncked the distance, you know you've achieved it and thats all that counts, i haven't been online to see any of my previous race results, i know what i did and if anyone asks i'll tell them the truth.
THat doesn't help me when the 'relatively' unfit guy I sit next to has a faster official half marathon time than me despite the fact it un a faster one than him every weekend and have done for some months now....
- the fact he spent a week self injecting with EPO prior to doing a half apparently doesn't count
Also didn't paula have a wee rather than take a dump?

have come to the conclusion today that although some of my pre long run preparation may have been superfluous, my post race recovery routine was not.
massively regret skipping the protein shake yesterday and the ice packs would have been a nice addition, oh well, you've got to test things to make sure they add value rather than assuming and chucking obey at things just in case...

After a week of the flu. I went for a quick 8km last night. Absolutly destroyed me!
...It was -6C
...and there was 1/2 foot of snow to struggle through
...and in retrospect, I probably should'nt of worn a 1/2Kg weight on each ankle. But I felt shit and want to blow the cobwebs away.

Out of interest, how do you know the course is long? Races, especially big ones, are usually quite good about getting the distance right. I can only recall one I've done being wrong when they put the start line at the wrong lamppost.
If your length estimate is based on GPS then I suspect that the course is right. Gps is notorious for slightly overestimating the distance. Then you also have the fact that you probably didn't run the racing line due to congestion etc. Finally there is what's known as the "short course prevention factor" which basically means they put the finish 0.1% of the distance further.
I'm not trying to be an arse here, sorry if it sounds like it. I'd be interested to hear if they admitted cocking it up by such a large margin. You can probably count the extra 21m as 3 seconds anyway ;)

The allegation that the distance was messed up is already pretty widely distributed; the only "evidence" I've found, though, are second or third hand quotes from a Michael Sandford, who is an accredited course measurer but was not, as far as I can tell, officially associated with the event.

was going to switch to doing Mon-Wed-Fri evenings instead of Tue-Thur but my right calf is still very tight after rugby on Saturday (they were very very fat and there were a million scrums - still smashed them 50 odd points to 7). Will try to stretch it out today and see but I fear it may have to wait until next week and I'll just go tomorrow and Thursday this week.

I've been meaning to drop this link into here for a while. There's some really good stuff - especially the Joss Naylor 60 in 60 film.

Still recovering from a cold and with a chesty cough. Only hope I didn't catch pneumonia or TB today :-)
My first 10k after 3 weeks of running.

Sounds similar to the lamppost I mentioned.
Apologies for doubting you Sharkstar! I saw your Joggers World post just there now.

Nice work EEI.
Based on last Tuesday's run I'm aiming for 10k tomorrow evening.
The start of the route is based on last weeks unplanned effort, and give's me the option to cut it short should I need to.
I'll do the same as last week and record the data for perusal afterwards but I'm not going to use it to pace myself during the run itself as I'm trying to get a feel for what's comfortable.

I can't wait to start running 10k again. Once I've seen a physio about my knees/ need to in soles I'm back on with the distance running and cycling.
Yesterday I ran just over 4k knees are not too bad today which I can cope with. As long as I keep on with the ibuprofen and stretching I can manage this distance every other day.
It worked! Managed not to eat during the run either!
My food diary for this afternoon is wicked 4800 calories to get through!
