    I do wonder about their architecture though. The workouts can be synced to the mobile app with no problems. The device can sync activities/etc to the mobile app (and the website) with no problems. But you can't get a workout (which is already on the mobile app) onto the device.

    So many levels of fuckwittery going on there.

    I'm hoping this will all be a big kick up the arse for Garmin to sort out some of their reliance access to servers on the Internet (be they cloud/hybrid or private) in the future. If they don't it might be enough for me to jump ship in the future, and I've been sucking the Garmin cock for many years (eTrex H, Edge 705, Forerunner 110, Forerunner 920xt, Forerunner 935, Forerunner 945).

    (They only dipped 6% in share price due to the recent problems but have recovered most of that already.)

  • 26km yesterday and 30km today - which have played second fiddle to finishing the decorating in our lounge. I’ve been knackered both days before running and haven’t been eating properly. But got it done. Lying in bed thanking the fact I only have a 13km tomorrow and then 60km Thurs/Fri to finish the month. I could have quite happily given up at some point over the last 4 days but coming this far gotta keep chipping away.

  • Also Garmin has been sucking but also I lost my charger cable in the move, ordered another and then my mother drove back to Norfolk with it so I’ve had to order another. Which reminds me how pants Strava in the iPhone is as an app, so I’ll be glad to have my 945 back up and fully functional

    I did also discover a bit of trail in Epping, which I think we cycled on a CX forum ride before...(I didn’t fall head first into a ditch this time round!)

    I remember someone reverse engineering a few wearables a while back (just using a hex editor, I seem to recall)

    At the device level, at least, the architecture is to just slap the new thing on top of the old thing, and press down a bit.

    I'd imagine it's all a bit like that.

    Three days left, and my remaining distances are 12km, 26km and 28km. I'm so tired after 27km and 29km already this week (and so much self-hate for leaving so many of the big distances until so late in the month). I haven't eaten properly in a long time now and have zero energy. I keep getting really dizzy and nauseous. I'm so over the heat and humidity and my shoes filling up with sweat. I'm so over running with my rucksack. I'm so chafed. Feet are in a shocking state.
    TLDR: not doing great but going to finish this stupid fucking challenge.

    Definitely was in my experience. Need to allow the phone to wake the watch up to improve the user experience? Nope, can’t do that, will screw up the watch power management.

  • I'm going to look into vests/bum bag/belt things

    I use an eastpak bum bag and found it to be really good, best position was on my hip and didn't impede my run at all. It's got front and back pockets and you can easily buy them for under £10 on ebay

  • When you complete it, why not take a month off running? It sounds like you need it.

    Salomon Pulse belt is great - phone, wallet, keys, and 500ml squeezy flask all fit very easily.

  • Thanks @SideshowBob, @TW. Since that comment I hooked up a velcro strap to my bidon and it worked well. Relieves the grip, but yes at some point you are carrying an empty bottle which those squidgy ones would solve. The belts look good. On Sunday my short rear pocket was stuffed so full, have to sort a belt thing!

    They're going to want a new normal pretty quickly - If it happened once, it can easily happen again.

    But, being Garmin, they'll patch this one thing, then probably sell the fix as a new feature...

    Less annoying to carry than a plain old bidon.

    I have a small running rucksack for my run commutes (since I need to carry wallet, keys, ID badge, etc), when I've finished the drink I can stuff it in the rucksack to avoid having to carry it.

    @Stonehedge I will definitely take some time off, but I'm off to the Tibetan plateau in August and I'm keen to do some runs out there.

    @TW I'm actually super excited to go for a run that isn't part of a schedule. Also excited to go for a run that isn't preceded by a run and followed by a run. I also think that running through the rainy season/summer will have hardened me up to the point that I will smash it come autumn? Maybe?

    Oddly enough, I have a pretty good idea of what they're doing right now to avoid this happening again in future.
